Not as good as Brewsters … 30 people outside waiting … Gettysburg pike across from the mall … This was tonight August 2nd around 9:16 p. m…You may want to also try rake straws in Mechanicsburg… they make a killer teaberry ice cream !!!

I’ve been coming here for years. Impressive selection of Italian ices, custards, and soft ice cream. Quick and friendly service. Flavors and quality seem much better than chains like Rita’s. I also think the prices are much better. They also serve some food like hot dogs, etc. A local business that is active in supporting the community. There’s a nice outdoor seating in back that makes it a great place to pass a summer evening cooling off with a dessert. If you have little kids you do need to keep a close eye on them as the seating area is in the middle of the drive through and I’ve seen a few kids nearly get hit.

I can only imagine what are in these ices. I ordered a small birch beer and it had almost no taste. I took it back and was given an attitude about it. Got a mango instead and it tasted better, but left a chemical-like aftertaste in my mouth. My wife and daughter said theirs did too. I think their ices are just water with pumps of chemically-flavored additives laden with high fructose corn syrup, Red 5, Red 33, Blue 5, Yellow … etc., etc. etc. Just nasty. We didn’t even finish them and collectively vowed never to go here again. I feel sad because we like to support local businesses. Why don’t they just put in some effort and make some real homemade Italian ice?!?

The pretzel cone is… unique but I didn’t like the taste, the custard is thick and creamy but I didn’t think it was anymore flavorful or special than Rita’s or similar places. Kids devoured their swirls with the animal cracker and pretzel stick in it though

I far prefer Maggie’s over any chain Italian Ice. The ice is at least as good, the soft serve is better(and has more options, like dips), and they have hard ice cream. I go out of my way to take friends here, who haven’t been around the area much. There is also the fact that Maggie has tons of benches and tables for families/couples to sit and enjoy their treats out back, where as places like Rita’s purposefully has no seating.

We stopped by here today after spending the morning at a local flea market… I’m very happy to have found Maggie’s — it’s a nice alternative to big chains like Rita’s. We got gelatis and hot dogs and they were excellent!

I had a weird experience there yesterday. My hubby and I went through the drive through and asked for kid sized servings. I ask for kid sized b/c my blood sugar is always out of whack and I wanted the smallest size possible so I’d get the smallest amount of sugar. She heard us say kid sized a few times. She gave us smalls and charged us for smalls. Hubby asked whether or not they still had kid sized. She RUDELYRUDELYRUDELY said, «yes, it’s the same as the small but we flatten off the top». Duh, that’s exactly why I ordered a kid size. If I ever return and get the same treatment it will be the LAST time I go there. She never gave an explanation as to why she give us something we didn’t order. We’ve been ordering that for years. What the h-e-double-hockey-sticks?

Awesome local water ice stand in Mechanicsburg, they have some really unique flavors that change quite often. My personal favorite is always mango, but I also delight in the blueberries and cream(has fresh blueberries in it!), peanut-butter fudge, mint chocolate chip, and cookies and cream. Great water ice and certainly recommended as a nice local alternative to Ritas.
