This is the only diner within 50 miles of my house so I’ll go easy. The food is usually pretty good. Burgers, fries, subs, fried pickles. The usual diner food. Pretty good, not great. My kids enjoy eating here. However, it takes forever for the food to arrive after ordering. Average wait time ranges from 25 to 35 minutes(in each of the 3 times I have visited this establishment). And it’s not even busy during my visits. Lots of empty tables and extra waitresses, but long waits for food. This becomes difficult when dining with small children. The place is also filthy. A nice layer of grime covers every surface here. I need to shower after eating here, it’s so dirty. The 50’s flair and décor is amusing, but not cleaning the restaurant since the 50’s does nothing to help. Clean it up, and speed it up!

Had a hot beef and a hot turkey sandwich. Best I have had in a very long time, smothered in gravy like they should be. The staff was extremely friendly and several different waitresses checked to see if ee needed anything. Took a big box home with me. Looking forward to the leftovers.

Dessert is delicious. Regular food is pretty average. The menu has received little change from my childhood which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

This place is literally awful. I never got what makes people like it so much. I’ve NEVER had good food.

Tried to eat there recently. Tried as I say since after no wait staff came to our table during the 30 minutes we sat there to take drink or food order we walked out. People that were coming in as we were seated were already ordering and had their drinks.

if you like the diner experience then Bert’s will do. The food is ok, prices are ok. Good place for family/kids. The menu has a lot to offer but everything tastes the same, salty, fried, and dry. Desserts are yummy but not a place to go on a date-no alcohol. The service is OK. Mostly kids working but they are all very polite. Anything with fresh roasted beef is good, potatoes are instant and the gravies taste like SALT. Salads are sad. I would suggest a healthier menu upgrade. Not much different then fast food.

I love this place. Yesterday was my first visit in a couple of years. We used to go to the farmers market Saturday mornings and then come here. I love the interior decorations and the jukebox. They also have a Scratch off machine which can be a good or bad thing. We ended up with a stack of loser-scratch offs on the table. The service was great, and the food could use some improvement but it was still very good American diner style food. I got fried pickles and potato skins for an appetizer, both were yummy. My lunch was a steak and cheese with cheese fries. Very filling and satisfying! I hope to come back one day soon when we’re in Hughesville.

Ice cream selection is nice. Food isn’t the greatest around, but the ambiance helps. Friendly staff.

For a place that tries hard to be celebratory and fun it comes off as dreary, worn and tired. Furniture is worn, lighting is harsh, food is poor to mediocre. Could really use an update and a refresh. Service was OK. Not sure Keno and Lottery scratch-offs belong in a «family» place.

Three stars is all this place will ever be. Food is just okay, service good, lacks a fifties flavor other than decorations. A little pricey for what you get, so the value isn’t there.

My husband and I stopped here for dinner on our way home from the Leonardtown Arts Festival. We saw a lot of cars in the parking lot so we hoped that the food was good. We were NOT disappointed! I had the half roast chicken, mashed potatoes and veg of day(green beans). Husband had the hot roast beef sandwich with fries & gravy. The food arrived in about 15 minutes once our order was placed. Outstanding food! We ordered the banana split for dessert and that was delicious too. Our server Shannon was very pleasant and a manager(Bonnie) stopped by our table twice to make sure all was well. Even though this place is 45 miles from our home, we will return because the food was that good.

All processed and prepackaged food. Nothing made fresh. Will go back for the ice cream only.

Caution! We stopped for Sunday breakfast on our way out of town. What diner doesn’t do breakfast well? This one! My husband had the breakfast buffet which had a decent variety. The food was lukewarm to cold. When we told the«manager» he said there was a problem with the heating mechanism. When I asked if that was safe, he replied, «I think it’s ok.» I won’t bother to elaborate on my meal which was cooked to order, yet inedible. Bad choice on our part. Think twice before eating here

You really can’t have a bad meal here. The food is great and the service is also very good. My daughters and I always stop here when driving past it. The food is always hot and cooked perfect. The place is always clean and the jukebox is fun to listen to some oldies on.

Been coming to Bert’s for the last 6 years… the service has always been friendly, the food has been great(Love the specials amd the Pizza is DELISH!) and if there was ever a problem, Management was on top of it! If you haven’t been to Bert’s yet, don’t let a couple of so-so ratings stop you from trying it out, yourself. You just may be surprised! And they’re always bringing in new things. Anybody LOVE Halloween as much as I do? Well, they put on a Trunk or Treat the last 2 years, and 100% of proceeds go to charity. You don’t find that with«local business» anymore. Thumbs up to Jess, Doug & Crew for a great local, relaxing place for a family to dine & unwind!

Omg Had gone by this place so many times but never was hungry until the other day! I had taken my 92 year old Dad out to look around at Charlotte Hall Veterans home and we went to Bert’s for lunch! It’s not far from the Veterans home! We loved it! My Dad got the jumbo lump crab cake sandwich! He was funny he told waitress if its not jumbo lump he’s sending it back! I got the Reuben! The cornbeef was top notch very tender! And a huge sand. It had a lot of sour grout! LOL! My spelling! Sorry! But it was the best I have ever eaten!!! We had excellent service and the place was really busy and it was Tuesday! Love the Décor! Very clean place too! Can’t wait to go again! I am gonna get that crab cake that my dad got! He ate every morsel! LOL! We will see ya all soon!!!

This is not a diner where you can get breakfast all day! I think they actually stop serving at 11am, which for my lazy self is WAY too early on a weekend. I went with my husband one weekend and we missed breakfast by 30 minutes or so. I ended up having a salad that was just ok(I don’t eat meat and it was the only thing on the menu I could eat!). My husband had a philly cheesesteak. He said it was ok. A second time we managed to make it for breakfast. I had a veggie omelette that was delicious but way too cheesy, and my husband had steak and eggs. He said it was pretty good. Their home fries are mediocre and the toast is tiny and seems like an afterthought. Toast shouldn’t be the size of a deck of cards. Their coffee was meh. Both times we’ve had very helpful, attentive servers. Their service is probably the highlight of the meal. The décor is cute in a cheesy way, but it is not a place where you’d sit and relax and have a leisurely meal.

I rarely make my way down this way into Southern Maryland, but when I do I always like to stop by Bert’s. This place is more than just another roadside diner or family restaurant, it’s a trip back in time. From the 50’s diner exterior to the classic cars you’ll often see parked outside; from the 50’s and 60’s music inside to the historic décor throughout the place. I felt like I was in Back to the Future, enjoying the positive side of America’s golden age. Now, décor only goes so far, so let’s talk about food and service. The food here is pretty standard Americana. Burgers and fries, country-fried steak and vegetables, fish, chicken, etc. are all on the menu. I’d give the food here an A-OK, where it’s done right, hot, and tasty but nothing stands out as unique. Portions are good and, when I ordered my fish sandwich, I was amazed to have ~two~ fried fillets on it instead of the expected one. What really makes the food here good are the desserts, though, and you can’t go to a «50’s» diner without having some! They have ice cream(hard and soft-serve), pies of all flavors, and sundaes so huge you really need to share them with someone. Service here has been top-notch every time we’ve visited. Our last visit I swear our server checked on us every 10 minutes or so, to make sure all glasses were full and everything was fine. I even saw the manager coming out, checking on tables and helping the wait staff throughout the place. You just don’t find service like that anymore; it’s almost as it if came out of the… *gasp* 1950’s! So, if you happen to be deep into Southern Maryland, you need to stop by here. Grab some lunch, grab some dinner… just party like it’s 1959!

So… I went to this place knowing that the food was bad based off of Unilocal reviews. But… I was hoping that maybe… those people… just caught it on a bad day. So… my friend and I went there on 5÷18÷2013… and the food was AWFUL. Straight down AWFUL. Lets start with the fish he ordered… was… I dunno… what it was… it was just nuggets of fish and it didn’t taste right either. Then he got hush puppies… that i’m pretty sure was just fried dough… nothing about it was«hush puppish». Then I ordered… a burger… I forget… it comes with one of those ads they say our beef is so good blah blah blah. I’m pretty sure… my patty was frozen that came out of a box. The burger didn’t taste of anything. Then… I look at my fries… and I have… a LAYER… I’m not joking… it was a layer. I asked the waitress about this… and she looked puzzled as well. She was kind enough to bring more fries… and then the story made sense. The new fries were crispy, hot and golden. The fries we had were cold and that light yellow look. Needless to say… to all weary travelers… the place looks great on the outside… inside it looks awesome. Go there… take a picture… and get the HECK out of there!
