While the gym itself is nice and staff is very friendly, this isn’t a good place for women. I do a lot of weight training and yoga, but when I find an area to workout (little to no people AND I’m not in the way of any equipment) there’s always some jerk who will face my direction and stare, they stretch right by me, or where I’m at seems to be the only area to walk through. If YMCA had a designated area for women then THAT would be worth staying. Until then I’m going to a women only gym. Sorry YMCA, you’d probably have more women attending if it wasn’t for those handful of jerks around.

We’ve been members for a long time. We selected the Y because of the family friendly options. (Other gyms in town only offered options like TV watching for kids — what a way to build good exercise habits!) We’ve stayed because it’s a great, friendly place to exercise. What we’ve found is that the Y serves all ages and abilities. Yes, the facility is worn around the edges but the staff is great and the Y meets all our needs. There’s a good selection of classes and the equipment has all been updated in the last few years. They have an extensive remodel project ongoing that will improve all the locker rooms. The gym just received a complete overhaul.

The equiptment is average. There is some new and old stuff. The clientel leaves a lot to be desired. Lots of high school students, walking around swearing and taking up the equiptment trying to look cool. I just joined the Superior Athletic Club. The price is about the same, but just a little higher on the initiation fees. It was really worth it as they have much better equiptment and lots of it. No waiting for anything versus always trying to get something at the YMCA. I give it a 3 star because it is non-profit.

Pretty good overall, The staff is nice, except for one of the ladies in the childwatch area. I have a son that has social anxiety and doesn’t interact well, She’s always very rude when he comes in, saying oh he’s ALWAYS like that when he comes in. I no longer take him to the childwatch, I won’t put up with her rudeness. I wanted to smack her. My only real complaint is there aren’t enough elliptical, treadmill or bike machines. I feel like i’m always having to really watch and snag a machine while I have the chance. But the price is reasonable. I just wish it was updated.

Look, you’re not going to mistake the Medford YMCA for a fancy gym. The décor is pure 70s and fake wood, there are kids yelling and running around a lot of the time, the showers are old school, and the place is sort of a maze to get around. But the fees are reasonable, boot camp is awesome (especially morning boot camp with stacy), the employees are totally nice, and it’s a great resource for the community. It also happens to be about 3 blocks from my office, so that clinched the deal.
