Tree farm is of subpar quality. I have been to a lot of south carolina tree farms throughout the years and this one is probably on the bottom of my list. Last year we ended up leaving this farm and going to Noels on James Island. Small selection of «you cut» trees, and the ones that are available trimmed poorly, to where they don’t look like a Christmas tree. Will steer clear next year.

Since I’m new to the area, I had to seek out a local Christmas Tree Farm to take over the reins from my go-to spot up in the NC Triangle area. I’m not about to drive five hours for a Christmas tree! After doing some research, I decided Toogoodoo was the winner(since I don’t know how to pronounce the name and that was intriguing to me… just kidding… but seriously). The farm is out in Meggett, SC which is just beyond Hollywood(nope, not that one) and thus was an easy 35 minute drive from James Island. Here, they do the whole Christmas tree experience right. It’s a family run operation and that shows in the way they treat their customers. Everyone is very friendly and super helpful. They answer all your questions, chat you up in a friendly way, and help you load up your tree once you pick one. As for the trees, they grow a bunch of their own on the farm. As you would expect, these are the«southern Christmas trees»(ie, they probably don’t look like what you envision when you think of a Christmas tree if you’re not from the South). Such varieties include the Virginia Pine, Red Cedar, and Leyland Cypress. These trees are cut your own and $ 7 per foot(you can grab a saw and a measuring pole when you head out to the fields). Don’t get me wrong, there is a certain charm and appeal to these trees but I’m a Jersey boy and thus am used to trees such as Fraser Firs. Sadly such trees do not grow in SC, but luckily Toogoodoo ships in some already cut Frasers for your purchasing ease. These trees ranged from $ 40-$ 75, and thus seemed to be reasonably priced. With some guilty feelings, my fiancée and I did indeed pick up a Fraser Fir, though one of the employees told me not to fret as she has a Fraser herself! All in all, a great tree buying experience. Just don’t forget that this is a check or cash only operation(no cards)!
