Best clan chowder I have ever had. The Big Easy was delicious and our Fisherman’s combo was just right. If you are within an hours drive this place is worth it. Prices were reasonable also! Our waiter Mike was super attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. We will be back if ever in this area.

A roach the size of a dog just ran up my leg !! Not good. Food is always good, but really, roaches ! GROSS . And even after talking to manager(who said it was a palmetto bug). .Doesn’t matter, bugs don’t belong in the dining area !!! I have a pest control guy that keeps them out of my house ! NOEXCUSE ! And from what I remember from working in many restaurants myself, Comp the damn meal and Bill it to the pest control company ! BEWARE … Bugs in front of house means bugs in back FORSURE ! YUKKK

My mother and I visited Shells back in November and we both had the clam strip baskets. Everything was wonderful including the fun martinis that had drizzled chocolate in the glass. So when I visited during my vacation with her again this year, we decided we would go back for another great meal. Well, I was completely wrong. We placed the order with our waitress quickly and she went to get our drinks. Upon returning, my drink(Almond Joy) had no chocolate drizzle and my mother’s Key Lime Martini had ice in it. I guess the fact that because the bartender overpowered — we got another half a glass of alcohol. We didn’t even get to take a sip of our drinks and our food had arrived. How does a plate of food cook that quickly(besides being already done and under a warmer)? By the time we were half way through our food — the clam strips were cold. We should have said something to the waitress, but I’m not a complainer. I just won’t ever go back there again.

The best hush puppies and coleslaw hands down… fish basket was good not dripping in grease or overly breaded just right served with parsley potatoes. The shrimp creole was just right of spice… worth the drive from PSJ. My inlaws new favorite place and if they like it then it has to be good… they have picky standards when it comes to seafood and they say so far they haven’t found one dish they haven’t liked.

Our favorite sea food place in Melbourne. Right now Cajun is in season. Shrimp Creole was outstanding. Be aware seniors pack the place from 4 to 6 for Early Bird. Worth the half hour wait or come off peak senior time. Fish is always fresh. Check the specials board posted throughout. Staff is efficient and friendly.

I really like Shells. Their menu is varied without being overwhelming and they offer both daily and early bird specials. Entrees are only a teeny bit more expensive than I would like and in general, they do seafood quite well. The staff is always friendly and mostly attentive. This time around they get 4 instead of 5 stars because I ordered etouffe. I am lucky enough to have had it in areas such as Louisiana and was disappointed by the lack of that authentic flavor. It was edible though and contained enough seafood to feel good about. Bottom line: shells is an above average seafood choice in Melbourne FL.

Experience: Wanted to grab some local seafood before heading back to landlocked NV. This is a place my family suggested to get some good bites. It was a Thursday afternoon. Facility: This is a casual, clean restaurant that feels like a typical American family diner. It had tables and chairs and some booth sitting. Service: our waitress was Stacy, and although she was a nice lady with a friendly demeanor, she was not a very good waitress. It took a while for her to bring our drinks. She actually didn’t bring them until she brought our appetizer. Then she forgot one, and didn’t bring it back until we had finished our appetizer. We had to ask twice for refills, and when she set our main courses down, she took off before checking if we needed anything or even before we could ask for anything. When we finally flagged her down, we were half done with our meals. This sucks when you need tarter sauce for your food. Also, not the waitresses fault, but the food took almost an hour to come out too. Food: the food was really good! We order quite a few things and only one thing was disappointing. They serve some nice buttered/grilled bread to tie you over while your waiting for your food. Oysters on the half shell — 5⁄5 — these were delicious! They were so fresh and yummy! Fried Scallops — 5⁄5 — these were perfectly cooked and very sweet. The fries on the side were crunchy on the outside and nice and soft-potatoey on the inside. So yum! Fried trio — 4.5÷5 — the clams were great, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the fish was good(just a tad bland). Got a side of cole slaw that was good, but would have preferred it without tangerines in it. Mahi Mahi Blackened — 5⁄5 — this was cooked perfectly with right amount of spice, and it was nice and moist. Delish! Mahi Mahi grilled — 2⁄5 — for some reason this piece of fish looked moist when you cut it, but was dry and dense when you chewed it. This was the only dish everyone was disappointed in. Steamed Lobster — 5⁄5 — considering this is my favorite food of all time, I might be biased by saying it was fantastic!!! Coconut fritters — 5⁄5 — these were free on Wednesdays with your entrée. They were like mini fried donuts with some coconut flakes in them. They were good, and free! Can’t beat that! Overall: I really enjoyed the food here. The oysters were some of the best I ever had. The food was just really good and the price wasn’t too debilitating($ 116 for all that food and drinks). The just need to improve on their service and this restaurant would be phenomenal! Glad we came here. :)

Excellent food. Fresh and tasty. Excellent wait staff. Great prices. Very casual and priced accordingly. some of the freshest seafood I have had in quite some time. Fresh catch of the day Mahi Mahi with a shrimp and scallop white wine cream sauce was out of thus world. Mother had the cioppino for her first time and it was superb.

Haven’t been here in years, but I see nothing has changed. The fish always fresh, prices beyond reasonable, ample portions in a nice setting. Tonight we had the Tuesday special, Lobsta Pasta. Lots of lobster pieces in a creamy lobster sauce with linguine @$ 15.99. Can’t beat it! We also another dish called The Big Easy… on the menu under«Shells Favorites» and for only $ 12.99. Prices are ridiculous for what you get. Have been going here since the late ’80’s. Service is always attentive and the bread basket, side salads, etc. only enhance the meal. You won’t be disappointed. A tip: Try getting there by 5:30 or there will be a considerable wait. When we left the restaurant at 7:00pm, there were lots of guests inside and outside waiting.

I was visiting Melbourne and my family and I decided to come here for dinner around 7−715pm. There was no wait when we got there. We were seated right away. I ordered the shrimp mezzo mezzo without mushrooms, bowl of clam chowder, and a side Caesar salad. My mom and dad both ordered the grilled shrimp with linguini pasta in a lemon garlic sauce with house salads. They brought out grilled bread and butter to start. It was really good. The salads weren’t that great. I’d suggest getting the clam chowder or another soup over the salads. The entrees tasted fantastic. And our waitress was very prompt with taking our order and getting everything to us.

If fresh and delicious fish is what you’re looking for at a reasonable price, this is your place. It’s been many years since I’ve eaten at Shell’s so we decided to go there the other night for dinner. We had the fried cod and the swordfish with their Big Easy topping and were amazed at how fresh both were. Even though the cod was fried it was not greasy but instead had a very light crunch and the fish was very flaky. The swordfish was seriously amazing. Any other restaurant would have charged around $ 20(or more) — their price, $ 12.99! The atmosphere is definitely great for families however they do have a separate full liquor bar area. The staff seems very friendly. Our waitress’s name was Krystal and she was very knowledgable regarding everything on the menu. The ONLY reason I’m not giving my review 5 stars is because the bread that is served could stand great improvement. It’s kind of a toasted and buttered soft sub roll. Other than that this place will not disappointment! We can’t wait to go back and try some more entrees.

After searching for a family friendly seafood place that wasn’t outrageously priced, we decided to give Shells a try. We went on a Thursday evening well after the dinner rush. We were greeted as we walked in and seated. We waited for a good bit for our waiter to come to our table. We kept seeing him walk back and forth and finally after my husband stared him down, he quickly came over. From that point on, he was very attentive. We ordered a 1 pound fried shrimp special, 2 grilled seafood platters, a shrimp trio platter and shrimp pasta. Two of us ordered a side salad which looked a little less than appetizing. After picking out the less than fresh pieces, it was fine. I had read this in another review as well. Other than that, the food was plentiful and pretty tasty. The waiter brought out the fried shrimp dish and sat it down. A few minutes later he brought out another plate of shrimp and said they had only given us a ½ pound and wanted to make sure we got what we ordered. I thought that was impressive as we would have never known otherwise that they had shorted us a ½ pound of shrimp. Despite the salad issues and the delay in being waited on, I believe we would go back if we are ever in Melbourne vacationing again.

The calamari appetizer was good… the entrée of swordfish wasn’t overcooked. That’s the positives. On the negative side, the salad had old wilted lettuce, the service was very slow, there was no sauce or thought or artistry put into anything except the appetizer. The entrée was a slab of grilled fish, flavorless rice, and flavorless steamed vegetables. I guess I just kind of expected more.

Went for a late lunch on a whim. At first pass the ownership gets a fail for not stocking local beer. Their«craft» selection is the standard brands getting pushed by the AB and SA Miller reps. I can’t really comment on the entire menu as I had the blackened redfish with a crawfish topping special. All in all, the special was adequate. The redfish was slightly overcooked, the blackening had no kick whatsoever, and the entire plate lacked seasoning in general. The dish looked amazing but was a let down after the first bite. The server brought me some samples of the gumbo and the chowder; both were outstanding and the chowder was probably the best I’ve ever had. I finished the meal with a delicious slice of key lime pie. The service was good and the bartender acknowledged that the beer selection was rather poor. I just hope she’s heard by management so this can be remedied.

Always good and always delicious. Always crowded too and for a reason. The Shrimp and grits are just stellar. The fish is always fresh and cooked perfectly and there is a good choice of micro brews to wash it all down with. There is a lot of pasta on the menu too for some reason and there has to make someone out there smile as well. You will be happy with this choice. Oh, and try the clam chowder too. Wow.

Food was really good and service was excellent. Our server Stacey was great. Only reason not 5 stars was the portion size was a little small for me. I ended up eating my sons kids meal which was bigger then my dinner but all and all it was still great. Will be back recommend. Thanks Shells and Stacey, very friendly!
