I was really hoping for a decent hair cut but it sadly didn’t happen. I had a cut by the owner(Patti, Cuts & Such 456 Main St) herself and asked for simple long layers. Technique-wise I have never seen anyone cut layers like this before and for good reason because I ended up with what looked more like a matronly bob. I have to now pay another $ 50(elsewhere) to try and get it fixed. The salon was very nice, as was the owner but this review is based strictly on the hair cut I got and it was not a good one. I’m so disappointed and will continue to search for a skilled hairdresser.

My mother in law has been going to this lovely little Melrose salon for years. Recently, she started getting a hair straightening treatment there(not Keratin, relaxer) and had amazing results. For about a year she has been trying to get me to go in and get my hair straightened by her stylist, Heidi. I was a bit hesitant because I have naturally curly hair and grew out all of my relaxer about 7 years ago. I had been so traumatized by past relaxers and chemical burns that I vowed to never put a chemical on my head again. However, spending almost 2 hours to blow dry my hair straight every time I washed it was really getting exhausting. Finally, I summoned the courage to call Heidi and make an appointment. I am SO glad that I did! Its only been a week, but so far I am very happy with my decision. First off — the process: the relaxer Heidi used on me(called Keune, I believe) is so gentle and did not irritate my scalp at all even though it was on my head for about an hour. The whole process was painless(albeit a little lengthly seeing as I have a huge amount of hair) and Heidi was an absolute doll. Her expert hands turned my huge fro into sleek, smooth and shiny strands! I am still amazed that it takes only 5 – 10 minutes to blow dry my hair now! It literally has given me back so much time in my daily routine. I no longer have to start getting ready 2 hours in advance of going out… its such an amazing feeling. The service, professionalism and skill level at Cuts & Such is just as good if not better than any of those fancier salons in Boston. Thank you Heidi!

My family and I have been long time customers of cuts and such. Though we currently live in California when ever we visit Massachusetts we always come back and get hair cuts. When I go I never get a bad hair cut.

I am stunned that no one has submitted a review for Cuts & Such yet, as they are such a fabulous place! A friend recommended Cuts & Such to me in high school four years ago — at the time, I had long thick hair. I went in and asked Patti to cut it all off. She asked if I had pictures or any kind of style in mind… I’m pretty sure I just said, «Short.»(I was young and foolish and did not think that far ahead.) Patti looked at some photo books with me and then got started. She was super sweet and after the first initial snips that took the majority of my hair off(to above my shoulders), she did the cut slowly so I could see where it was going and if it was going to be too short. It wasn’t — it came out wonderfully. I went in a month or two later for an even shorter cut with a few pictures in hand — photos of super-short cuts and I think a fauxhawk thrown in there too. Bless her heart, Patti took it all in stride and gave me a fantastic pixie-like cut. She then suggested a couple of blonde highlights near my face(I have light brown hair with natural blonde tints) and an eyebrow. I hesitated for half a second — I’d never dyed my hair or had my eyebrows done — but decided to trust her. What a great decision! I had that look right as I started college, and let me tell you, I looked awesome in that college ID photo. I’ll admit that I’ve strayed from Cuts & Such time and again, partially due to being 100 miles away at college and partially to just try someone new. If it’s been a while, my brain always pipes up that maybe I should go someplace a little«edgier»(I’ve done some crazy things with my hair, including a fauxhawk that was created using a set of clippers on a friend’s living room floor), but no matter what style I come in looking for, Patti delivers. The shop was just recently remodeled — they’re finishing it up now — and everyone there is unbelievably friendly. I’ve recommended Patti to my mother, who goes in for highlights and a trim every once in a while. And while my mother’s hair grows very slowly, mine grows super fast… but both of us still look great weeks after a cut with Patti. Five stars. Handy info: — There’s free parking lots behind some of the buildings on Main Street, or you can try for street parking. — They accept MasterCard and Visa, but I know they don’t take Discover. — I’m pretty sure they take checks too, but I’m not positive. — Tips must be in cash.
