Fantastic cocktails, very good tapas, service was friendly and attentive… too attentive, we were interrupted every 10 minutes to be asked if we needed anything else. They were very nice, but it was really too much.

I was going through my checkins and I couldn’t believe I haven’t written a review for here yet! Where do I even begin with this place?! I love it here! The atmosphere makes me feel at home and the customer service is amazing! I went here for a friend’s birthday dinner and they were extremely accommodating, despite us arriving a bit later than our original reservation and closer to their kitchen closing time. We had quite of a bigger party than usual, maybe around 10 – 15, and we were seated immediately. Our server was very helpful, especially for it being most of our party’s first time there. The drinks were also delicious!(birthday dinner = dranks on dranks on dranks) The onlyyyyy reason why I’m giving this place a 4-star instead of 5 is simply because it definitely is on the pricier side for smaller portions of food. Being on Cooper, I’m used to $$ restaurants, but every place I’ve been to have enormous portions compared to their prices; Alchemy’s just isn’t there. This place is great, though, and I will definitely be back!

Pretty good I have to say. I like this neighborhood as well. Got the Fish tacos. Freekin delish. Also happy with the Bourbon selection. Next time in town I’ll come back here

I love this place and its little plates and precious bartenders and keep-it-simple décor. Go to here for some great little cocktails– a real representation of the mixology and artfulness of Memphis bars. Great spot to walk in and have dinner on a weeknight, because it only seems to get crowded on weekends.

First I’ll start by saying our server was nice but service was poor. First they didn’t have the champagne we ordered on the weekend of Valentine’s Day, I would think they would stock up on $$ ones or at least a bottle on Valentine weekend. Service was super slow, our drinks were missed up multiple times even the server and bartender tasted the drink the bartender made and thought it was bad. When we got there they weren’t busy but service was sooooooooo slow. I started ordering wine just hoping they couldn’t possible miss it up and wouldn’t take long to make, it was still slow. Food was ok, but terrible service. I would have expected the manager to come by to say hey sorry we didn’t have the drinks u wanted and that we missed it up. Also we all got our food except one person which her food took about 10 minutes to get there after ours. The dessert wasn’t good, crème brûlée was disgusting. I wouldn’t return here and now I remember why I never come here. I would have expected better service and for management to check up on tables. It was a bit embarrassing for me as I had picked the place for my cousin who was here from out of town to celebrate her 30th. Poor poor!

After lightly pouring our hearts out to Elvis at Graceland, we were ready to dive into Sunday brunch that did not strictly include BBQ. Reading up on reviews, we saw that Alchemy was known for their signature drinks, and included a Sunday brunch menu. This was perfect! Walking in, you’d think you were in an upscale downtown restaurant in LA or Chicago. Large and glamorous is what I’d describe the setting, albeit a bit chilly in Winter since it’s such a big space. That my friend, is what the $ 5 cocktails are for. Sunday brunch offers some great drink deals from mimosas to bellinis. If you’ve got time, try them all. We loved ours! For brunch, we ordered the Shrimp and Bacon Hash($ 18) and the Loaded Grits w/Fried Egg($ 13). My my my… both of these were absolutely delicious. The hash’s perfectly poached eggs complimented the shrimp and bacon doused in sauce. The loaded grits had all the cheeses in the world, yet it wasn’t completely overpowered by its goodness. A win for both! Our wait staff was very sweet, and was curious enough to ask how to pronounce my last name. I appreciate that! Thanks Alchemy for a great last brunch before we head home to places where BBQ is not as highly recognized.

Food is so so and the atmosphere isn’t that great It’s usually just over crowed and to loud. Not anywhere I’m rushing back too.

I was reading some of the other reviews on Alchemy and I agree with Amanda E the hostess was a rude snotty chick. We had brunch her on a Sunday at 1pm and after drinking a whole bottle of champaign the night before the last thing I want is some chick with an attitude before I had my coffee. Another reviewer said this is an upscale bar but its not at best its trendy and a fun place to grab a drink with friends. As far as the food I enjoyed most of it. The Bacon egg and cheese sandwich was just ok. The pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy, pimento cheese hash browns, and the biscuits with butter and jam were all pretty tasty. Our waitress was nice and kept our glasses full.

I’ve been here a few times for drinks and I love it. When I have gone, the bartenders were always nice. Plus the drinks/cocktails taste great. Oh Clementine is my favorite!!! I also love Alchemy’s atmosphere. It has nice vibe and is very relaxed.

One of my favorite places to enjoy a cocktail! Every cocktail I have tried is fantastic! My favorite is probably the Hound Dog. I’ve been here a couple times now, and service has been consistently good. The first time I came was just for drinks and the second was for dinner and cocktails. Cocktails are always great, as I mentioned! The food was pretty good as well, however I find it to be a little pricey for what it is. My boyfriend & I tried the crab cakes, mac & cheese, & the tacos. Out of those, the mac & cheese was the tastiest, but nothing special. The sauce that came with the crab cakes was good, but the crab cakes themselves had a little too much breading and lacked flavor. I’ll definitely be back for cocktails, but will probably hold off on the food.

They have a parking lot, but I had to park in a side street, the lot was full. Clean nice place with modern décor. 2 bar areas with quite a bit of seating. Tables and booths throughout venue. Nice employees with okay food. My veggie quiche was okay, but looked like it was from Sam’s and a little above room temp. Nice greens with it. Hubby’s Shrimp Diablo omelette was good and loaded with shrimp. I was disappointed that only the brunch menu is available on Sunday. Never had a Mimosa, tasked like sour grapefruit :-(. When to a Paint Nite there, they were nice hosts. I am not from Memphis, but the born again Cooper Young neighborhood is really nice area. I was really wanting the Artisan Grilled Cheese and tomato soup!

Its an upscale lounge in the heart of the Cooper-Young district. This neighborhood has really undergone a major upgrade in terms of options available. Its hip, young and booming. Alchemy is one of the places here that people come in for a drink or a fancy cocktail. I ordered my usual Old Fashioned and honestly it was 7/10, I’ve had better in terms of taste but this one was seriously 9⁄10 on the«strength» scale. Usually about 2 – 3 of get me a good buzz but this one knocked the lights out of me. The balance was a little off because of the alcohol but overall not too bad. This place has a great vibe and a superb ambiance! Great date place for sure and really classy too!

Alchemy hosted a dinner for 30 last night and everyone raved about the drinks, food, and service — we could not have been happier. An Executive VIP said«in all her travels stateside and internationally, this was her favorite meal of 2015». The planning was seamless, execution flawless, and service impeccable. Congratulations on a job well done to the management, servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff — our sincerest THANKS!

I have been here twice, now. Both times were for cocktails, only, and both visits were awesome. The ambiance is chic and comfortable, and they don’t blast«club» music, so you can actually hear the conversation you’re having! They have couches, tables, and a whole raised seating area in the back for larger parties. They also make a fantastic gin cocktail! I have yet to order any food, although the menu certainly is tempting. I will be back for dinner, sometime, but this is one of my favorite little places for good drinks in an upscale atmosphere.

I’ve been here multiple times and every time the hostess is rude /snotty, I’m really surprised this isn’t mentioned in other reviews. I guess I don’t meet their standard of ideal customer. The cocktails are really good though. I’m not one for just standing around but they are really weird about people sitting in the couches by the bar. I still can’t figure out what the rules are for being deemed worthy of these seats. I’ve come when it’s been really crowded and they are empty and I’ve come when the entire place is practically empty and the staff still acts put out if you’d like to sit there. The food is hit or miss for me and it’s overpriced for what you get, which I wouldn’t mind if there was great service but see above. For whatever reason I’ve been deemed not cool enough by the hostess staff which if fine, there’s plenty of other places to take my uncool money.

I have to say, I really was not feeling the food here like I had hoped I would. My boyfriend brought us here for my 21st birthday after getting a recommendation from his coworker. We each ordered a drink. The«Oh Clementine» I got consisted of clementine vodka with fresh orange juice and strawberry purée. It was pretty tasty. We then got the hush puppies, which I have to say were the highlight of my meal. They were delicate, crispy, and full of delicious cheese. The garlic dipping sauce was the perfect compliment. I’m glad we asked our waitress before we ordered the $ 14 crab cakes… turns out it’s one small crab cake. Places like this really irritate me with their overpriced, underwhelming tiny portions. Speaking of small portions… for the main course, we both ordered the pan seared hanger steak. It was served with duck fat roasted fingerling potatoes, which honestly tasted like plain boiled potatoes. They had absolutely no flavor and the paprika dipping sauce did not help. It actually had a really unpleasant taste, to be honest. The steak itself was overcooked on the outside while way too raw on the inside. It tasted like the only seasoning they used was sea salt, which they definitely overdid. I think that adding a nice vegetable to the plate would have helped balance it out a bit. The overall appearance of the meal was beautiful – the steak was sliced thinly and the potatoes were arranged in a decorative manner. The décor of the restaurant was modern and fun. It definitely is not your classic Memphis restaurant. If the food was priced reasonably and I was just ordering the hush puppies, maybe I would go back. For now, I don’t think I’ll be back soon.

Great atmosphere and location. We were here on a quiet Wednesday night before heading to an 8:30pm Grizz game. I had to step out and take a phone call and told the hubby to just select a few things for us to share from the menu. Yeah, probably shouldn’t have done that. Our palates are a little different and he selected things that I would not have selected: the Southern Antipasta plate with several salads, one which was a smoked chicken Salad(I don’t like smoked meat), a pimento cheese salad(nothing special IMHO) and some pickles veggies. Meh. Then he ordered the roasted brussel sprouts. I do love my roasted veggies, but I had made roasted sprouts at home the night before we came to Alchemy and I thought mine were better. Just sayin. Thankfully, he let me select the third item after we’d sampled these: the Basil breaded fish pasta. Bingo! My palate started singing and it wasn’t the blues. I think I’ll need to come back and select my own things next time, to be fair. And I will gladly.

Went here for a birthday party And felt like I was in another city. The place was packed so we didn’t budge from our seats because we would have been left standing. bar service was fast and drinks good — the food was excellent too. A would highly recommend for drinks with friends but not a place you go for a quiet dinner. It’s loud and lots of people walking about.

I can’t believe I haven’t updated my @AlchemyMemphis review until now. Not only am I the duchess here, but I am in a complete and total love affair with this place… you’ll find me here at least twice a week… and almost every Sunday for brunch. I love the atmosphere, I love the bartenders, I love the waiters(shoutout to Bethany), I love the drinks, I love the people who come here, I am just in a constant state of love love love when I walk through the doors. But do you know who I love more than anyone in this building? Cy, the head of Alchemy catering, who did my 30th birthday party… and people are still raving about the food. He made everything so easy peasy for me and I can’t express how appreciative I am. He held my hand through the entire process and made it so I didn’t have to do anything but tell him what menu items I wanted and **poof!** there they were. So if you want a classy cocktail? Alchemy. If you want a sophisticated atmosphere? Alchemy. If you want a great place to meet someone for a first date? Alchemy. If you want someone to cater a bomb dinner? Alchemy. If you want a delightful brunch? Alchemy. So yeah, I love this place.

I’ve been here for drinks numerous times, but this past Saturday night was the first time I ordered food and the experience was so moving I had to write a review. Backstory: my friends and I were at Young Ave watching the Grizz v OKC game and chugging beers until they decided to cut the game off in the last 2 mins to show some dumb UFC fight so we decided to be classy and get drinks at Alchemy. Once seated, waters were brought and drinks were attempted to be ordered. Boyfriend got the Suffering Bastard(not because he is one, but bc he loves them) and this one was no different. I still heard praises of this drink the day after. I, on the other hand, went with red sangria. I’ve been on a mission lately to find the same one I had when I was in Brugge, Belgium and I’ve constantly failed. This time it was no different. The waitress even failed in describing how it was made. I asked if there was fruit, and she said yes. My drink arrived with some sour wine and a toothpick with two lemon slices and a lime slice. Needless to say I did not drink it. But I digress. Let’s move onto the Pan Seared Hangar Steak. Everything on that plate was remarkable. If it wasn’t bad etiquette, I would’ve licked that plate cleaned. The steak was cooked to perfection. It was still rare with juices still overflowing(as how a hangar steak should be prepared) and the potatoes were to die for: Not greasy but still flavorful with the oil. The paprika aioli sauce paired very well with both the potatoes and steak. I can’t even tell you what the other 4 people at our tables got because I was in such a trance with this dish. Also if you’re wondering who got the last bite of steak… I was feeling generous(and full from the sweet potato fries and beer from Young Ave) so I saved it for the boyfriend. Look at how great I’m doing with the whole putting other people’s hunger before my own.
