I know there are some non-believers out there about finding quality BBQ in a Whole Foods in-store eatery. Well I had to eat here about 4 times myself to make sure it was not a fluke and I tell you that I really enjoy this place. I urge you to give BBQ Shack a try soon! The brisket is moist, tender, smokey, fatty in all the right places and just darn good! The baked beans are still a tad firm and deliciously sweet and tangy. The mac-n-cheese is good, but nothing to rave about. They should add more cheese and maybe a smokey gouda or a extra sharp cheddar to liven it up a bit. They also make their own pickles which are great – I always ask for extra :-) And to wash it down, you have to try the southern sweet tea that they brew. It is the perfect balance of sweetness and tea(not weak and a distinct tea flavor). They have smoked sausage, chicken, ribs and pulled pork. I do not think you will regret giving this place a try.

Inside a Whole Foods, unexpectedly: Best BBQ Brisket EVER. Seriously. I did a 6000 mile cross-country drive, tasting brisket everywhere — and this was the tastiest meat not only of the trip, but of my whole life. Cole slaw and collards only passable; but brisket — to die for.

This is some of the best BBQ in Memphis!!! INSIDEWHOLEFOODS! Who knew?!? I’m so glad I decided to try that sample bc after that it was a must to try the rest. There’s nothing like a good olé BBQ sandwich or whatever and some GOODSIDES! Nothing burns my butt more than a place with good meat and dumb terrible sides*coughs GUS coughs*… But this place is really good, I don’t think a lot of people know about it so the wait is close to nothing. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. You would think a native Memphian would get tired of BBQ, but no I only get tired of BADBBQ and this isn’t that!

A great addition to the recently renovated Whole Foods Market on Poplar. Thought we’d go there tonight for their Thursday $ 3 Pint Night, and figured we’d try out the grub as well. Prices are decent, combo plates range from $ 8 – 10 and include 2 sides. Now there is a menu, but it seemed that they were almost out of everything around dinner time… so maybe it’s better to go for lunch? Anyhow, I chose a two meat plate and had the pork loin and ribs. Both meats had some good flavor, however it was pretty dry! As if it sat under the heat lights for too long and thus dried out the meats. The ribs were almost like a beef jerky, good smoke flavor, and rub. The pork loin was initially juicy, but as it cooled down it was just as dry. Overall, there are better BBQ joints in Memphis, but this wasn’t terrible at all… worth another try! The sides were delicious, if you’ve ever had the sides in the deli area, these were quite similar and tasty. No complaints in that department. However, the sides that I really wanted were already finished. So I had to opt for what was remaining. Staff was very friendly, Jacob came by to see how our meal was, I’m assuming he was the manager. The main gripe for the evening was the food runner who was literally whispering when our orders were ready… keep your eyes open and pull out your hearing aids! Don’t pay attention to the beers listed on the menu or on the board, as they most likely have something else on tap. However, expect a brew from Wiseacre, Ghost River, Memphis Made, and Yazoo if you were to visit. Solid 3.5 Stars… 4 because Whole Foods is awesome in general!
