We went there for my birthday dinner after reading great reviews. Has new owners and did not honor our gift card. Sushi was great but service was terrible. The inexperienced waiter lost our order, so the manager retook it and gave us our drinks for free. 2 hours later we had our food. It was not that good. We should had a bigger discount for all we went through.

I have been to Blue Fin a dozen times. Their quality has declined significantly over the last 3 years. Tonight, the experience was bad enough that I will not return again. The sushi tasted of grocery store quality. The spicy mayo tasted like mayo, the hurricane role was semi-soggy and lukewarm. My husband’s scallops were also lukewarm. All of this was also while the restaurant was without heat. Go somewhere else for sushi.

Don’t come here, I love sushi and had my heart set on a great meal, canceled my order and left, slow service doesn’t even begin, no white rice available to order… so weird, and when we saw sushi chef picking his teeth with no gloves on we got up and told the waitress to cancel everything. One of the worst food experiences ever. I do not expect they will be able to carry the Bluefin name much longer.

Painstakingly slow service. Do not go here if you want to eat and leave within the hour. We arrived at 630 on a Tuesday to a mostly empty restaurant. The two of us ordered chirasi bowls with only tuna and salmon, plus one salmon avocado roll. After an hour of waiting I received my bowl — with a bunch of different fish that I did not order — while my friend sat there waiting for his for another ten minutes. After he got his bowl, we waited another fifteen minutes for the salmon avocado roll, but instead received the smoked salmon roll. At that point we’d been in the restaurant so long that we just sent it back and went home. The food was alright, nothing particularly special, and definitely not worth such a long wait. The staff all seemed very flustered while we were there and we witnessed a few other tables angrily complaining about how slow the service was. I do not recommend.

Living downtown this is very convenient. The service is good and the sushi is good as well.

Aaaaamaaazing sushi!!! Wonderful! They just switched owners so they were not having happy hour. Instead got a desert on the house. Try the eel sauce with your sushi if you’re into sweet soy… loved that with the salmon sushi! Very nice personal to. excellent !

Disappointed. Sushi rice was dry and tasteless. I order scallop nigiri and the scallop was mushy and not fresh. Toro’s quality was not bad but they were more like someone dropped it on the rice… The food was too cold and dry. I gave it two because they have sweet shrimp and toro on the menu.

To be honest, Bluefin is a similar, slightly fancier(read: pricier) version of it’s sekisui sisters. I LOOOOVE the atmosphere though. The drink menu is fantastic! Give the Geisha a try, especially if you love rum-y pineapple-y things. The liquor sneaks up on you. The sushi is always fresh and delicious here, which makes Bluefin dependable. The wait staff is usually pretty attentive, but not overly annoying. This is my go-to sushi spot downtown for dinner with my girlfriends or date night with a hot cop.

Decent fish with large cuts. They also have sweet shrimp on the nigiri menu. When the menu includes the simpler things and not so much the everything on a roll mentality, I’m a fan. Could do a little better on their rice.

Such good, fresh tasting sushi. large selection of creatively designed rolls and loved the sushi happy hour where they come by with a chef choice tray and you can pick out good rolls at a good price. Definitely worth a stop!

When the night crawls… I’m a girl of town and I enjoy the aesthetic of good grapes with the company to match. If you need an ideal location to sip slow and share a thought or two with some conspicuous company, this is my recommendation. The staff is extremely attentive and goes the extra mile to mix things up just for you.

This was my 2nd trip here– 1st trip here was part of a Downtown Bacon Dishcrawl. I wasn’t wowed and I’m not a fan of sushi so I didn’t plan on returning. But I’m here. My cousin is a fan of sushi and she came to help me recover after surgery and I wanted to show my appreciation. I gave her 3 choices: Blue Fin, Sekisui, and Bangkok Alley. And you guessed it, she chose Blue Fin because I had actually been to this restaurant. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all. I got a little worried. She ordered the Hurricane and Dahlia rolls. She enjoyed both. I ordered the edamame and soft shell crab sliders. The edamame was covered in sea salt– not a fan. The sliders — oh my; they were tasty. I want the recipe to the slaw that topped the soft shell crabs.

The first time I ate at Bluefin, it was 2009 and it seemed like the landing for the local«It» set. It was dinnertime and we sat at those deep velvety couches that reminded me of eating in bed. It truly lived up to the«sushi lounge» vibe. Eating sushi in bed is kind of weird, though, isn’t it? No matter. I’ve since returned and was able to get an actual table both times. I appreciate going at lunchtime or early dinner when it’s not so desperately hip(though to be fair, I don’t know if that’s what’s happening here when it’s during the busy hours). The edamame hummus is so good! I love that they drizzle hot sesame oil on top, because it truly does take it to the next level. I am glad they serve it now with warm flatbread(really good!) rather than the crispy wontons they used to serve it with(those things have more oil than potato chips. I recall thinking it was just too much). I also ordered a veggie sushi roll, which is described quite differently on the menu. The veggie roll I received did not have tofu as indicated. It was still good(I like the lettuce in there), but not terribly exciting as it contains carrot, lettuce and avocado… possibly cucumber. I’m kind of a fanatic for inside out rolls with sesame seeds on the outside and I was disappointed that there was not a seed to be found. Same for the avocado cucumber roll that I also ordered(which did not come inside out. Didn’t realize I had to specify). It all tasted fine, but pretty plain and boring. I’m glad I have a dependable place to get food/drink within walking distance of my hotel, but otherwise, I most likely wouldn’t consider this a destination spot. I really dig their prices and I recall a happy hour that impressed last time at the separate bar!

I love edamame!!! and they have it with lime and sea salt and the miso soup is so yummy! But I must admit I will miss the crab cakes they’ve been removed of the menu— staff is awesome here

Frozen fish. The sushi isn’t worth the price. If you price yourself up you have to deliver a better product: food, service, and atmosphere. Blue Fin doesn’t deliver any, and actually manages to under perform in several areas. The food was a step up from Captain D’s, only with the added joy of having the BLUE hair from our server in our food. Found three strands of blue hair! Outside of that, the sauces lack punch, and are just generic and sweet like ketchup. No layers of flavor. You expect more for this price. The cooking was uneven, as some dishes at our table were overcooked, some under, some just right. When the food doesn’t deliver you start looking closer at other components. The service was substandard. The blue haired waitress was rude, short with us, and had to be prompted every time for refills. This despite the restaurant not being busy. The décor and atmosphere of Blue Fin is tacky and stereotypical. Nothing special, nothing offensive. The hostess was very friendly. A flower rising up from the wasteland Avoid this restaurant. If you want seafood, there are cheaper options that aren’t masquerading as something it’s not. The fish is not only frozen, it’s difficult to believe these fish were ever alive. Bluefin just made us blue

I have been pleasantly surprised by my last two visits here! As a native Memphian, I grew up in East Memphis and I am loyal to Sekisui, but when I’m downtown and want sushi, Bluefin is the way to go! I’m picky with sushi but they have a lot of options I really do enjoy. My mom and sister are sushi connoisseurs and have never had a bad roll here! Also, I judge a sushi restaurant on the quality of their house salad, and more importantly, their ginger dressing. Bravo, Bluefin, your house salad is on target! The staff is very friendly as well!

Stopped to have lunch after an apt. Sat outside on the patio which was nice. The service was good. We ordered sliders, flat bread and 2 sushi rolls. The burgers were over cooked but everything tasted good.

My first time here. Loved it! Started with Forbidden Fruit which was fantastic(had a few more) and the Edamame. We ordered several rolls(Surf&Turf-Redbirds-Bluefin-Spicy Tuna) and had a variety of sashimi. Everything was great. I was especially fond of the Surf&Turf roll — the asparagus made for a bit of crunch which I love. Xanthe was a brilliant beacon. Very friendly knowledgable and tuned in to our needs as dinner progressed. Do yourself a favor ask for Xanthe’s table. And to make it complete the restroom facilities were clean and had a good smell! i hate do this to a restaurant that i have frequented at least weekly for 3 years, but it is my duty as a Unilocaler. i want to make it clear i am reviewing the alcohol bar(as opposed to sushi bar) dining area. the food here is only decent sushi. the bar area is lively; with a big HOWEVER, the attitude of one of the main bartenders has become so unacceptable that i will not be returning for a long time. and this my friends, from a regular, weekly customer.:( i shudder to think of how a newbie would be treated. nope. memphis has other sushi options that in fact deliver better sushi, and there are plenty more choices downtown where one can sit at a bar and dine and read and feel welcome and appreciated. i do not think i have ever 1 star reviewed a restaurant in all my travels. that speaks volumes. bye bye bluefin…

Bluefin is considered one of Memphis’s upscale sushi restaurants located in the downtown area. I love the décor and location of this restaurant as it is situated in the heart of downtown on Main street. There is always a nice crowd here and the bar area is very nice(but small). They have a wide variety of sushi rolls but are a little bit on the pricey side. All in all, I would recommend their MPD and spicy tuna rolls along with their drinks.
