Opens at 11am. Arrived at 11:30. Already sold out of the vegetable-of-the-day, sweet potato casserole. They substituted cabbage without asking me. The steamed broccoli was tasteless. The turnip greens were seriously undercooked. The cabbage wasn’t tasty either. The jalapeño cornbread was good, but not so good that I’ll be coming back anytime soon. Deeply disappointing.

They have a 2 for 20 special on Tuesdays 2 salads 2 entrees and 2 desserts. That was a ton of food for the price best 2 for 20 out there!

Our office orders here for lunch at least once a month. We rarely had a problem before and the food is good. Today makes twice now they have gotten our order wrong. Very disappointed… they need to get it together!

This was my first time at Dixie café. I will start off by saying our waiter was awesome; Very friendly guy. Secind, the food was absolutely amazing! I had the chicken fried chicken with smashed potatoes, gravy and mac ‘n cheese. One of the most delicious meals I’ve had in a long time. We got in a very timely manner, even though the place was very busy. I will definitely be returning!

The food portions are well worth the money… I enjoyed everything barely had enough room for desert but i took some to go… I will definitely be coming back… This is the best restaurant in Memphis

I often go there with my Mom before an afternoon movie at the Paradiso just up Poplar. They do a good job here. No matter who serves us they are efficient and courteous from the greeter at the door to the wait staff to the managers. The free rolls and cornbread with whipped butter are nice, the drinks are big, and the light portions are a great deal while still filling. Plenty of healthy options too and you can go that route or mix a couple in with chicken fried steak and gravy. Best deal is one of the light meat entrees with two sides. If you order water two can do this for under 15 bucks after taxes. I appreciate the quality, consistency, great attitude, and professionalism that this restaurant has given my Mom and I over the past year. I am sure we will continue to visit.

Dixie Café is a smallish chain restaurant that servers southern plates with a meat and sides. They have chicken, pork chops, meat loaf, etc. They have typical vegetables with some unique ones such as fried corn on the cob and the delicious squash casserole. They have typical drinks(no alcohol). The coffee is a decent cup of joe. They give you cornbread and rolls. Both area awesome. I could easily get stuffed on just those two items. Feeling fat, I decided that I needed two meats, so I went with the meatloaf and the chicken fried steak with fried okra and the squash casserole. On New Year’s they give you free black eyed peas for good luck. Most everything that I have had has been good. I am not a fan of their greens, though. There is a lack of seasoning. This is a good restaurant. It’s not local, and there are better restaurants that I would recommend, but this one works, too.

I love this place, always good fresh food, decnet service. Yet to have a bad time, only neg is the location, cracker barrel is just as good, and most times closer.

Its Dixie Café, what the heck are people expecting? it is not a 5 star restaurant nor is it gross. It is far from gross if you like this type of food. It is not a health food place. If you want healthy food, go to Whole Foods or cook something tasteless at home. The«light portion» is just that, a lighter portion than the regular sized portion. That is why stuff like chicken fried steak is included. Most people could figure that out. Derrrrrr. It doesn’t mean it is a Lean Cuisine for God’s sake.

I like Dixie a lot. It has the comfort food of my youth and is very consistent in taste and service. We love to go on Wednesdays for lunch for the fried chicken livers. We also love the fried corn on the cob and the black-eyed pea salad. A number of people on the waitstaff have been there for a number of years and recognize us when we come in. I love that! It is a nice family restaurant and we always enjoy it.

Been coming here since I moved to Memphis in 2000 Love the rolls and jalapeño cornbread. Have a great selection of vegetables and meat dishes. I’ve tried the catfish, pork chops and catfish fried and grilled and have enjoyed them all both ways. The place is always clean(and empty) and the servers for the most part are cordial. Not a big dessert person, but any place that has a banana split is alright with me! Good food at a low price!

I wasn’t overly wowed by Dixie Café, sure it is cute and quaint when you walk in, but the charm ends there. Our waitress was not overly friendly, nor helpful. They offer this lunch special which is smaller portions and cheaper prices, but it ends at like 4pm. We were there 15 minutes prior to it ending and I was urging her to come wait on us so I could partake in this special. When she finally came and we inquired about the special she claimed that they wouldn’t be able to fit it in, but we could order the same thing off the regular menu. In other words, she was too lazy to go back and ask them to put the order in– point taken. I ordered some meat patty smothered in cheese and mushrooms with a side of green beans and macaroni and cheese. The meat patty tasted processed like a frozen meal and the green beans were from a can. The macaroni was really creamy, but I had to dump way too much salt on it for it to have any taste. This place reminds me of a southern version of Bakers Square(if you are familiar with it points to you) minus the huge pie selection. Speaking of dessert, there was this menu sitting on our table that was so sticky and filthy when I touched it I felt a gag reflex. I much prefer Abbay’s to Dixie Café and will be getting my southern fix there from now on.

I loved this joint when they were back on Park and Highland. The décor was awesome. And they were the best southern cooking my book. But then they moved to Poplar near Perkins, and the food and atmosphere turned into crap. I feel so bad to say that, given how much I enjoyed the place as a kid. But unfortunately, it’s the truth. The last time I went was in Early 2009, and I vomited after I ate there. I would give the place one star normally, but I am just clinging to how it used to be.

I like this place. It may not be for everyone. But when you just want good, Southern comfort food for a good price, it’s a great choice. The fried okra is a huge draw for me and I’ve also heard amazing things about their fried ear of corn but I’ve never tried it. I also like their grilled cheese and chicken and rice soup. Also their lite menu has come in handy to me several times before because you can order a small piece of grilled chicken breast for a lower price than their regular menu(when I say small I meant the actual portion size we should be eating instead of the giant portions most restaurants give) along with two vegetables. Granted, all that stuff may be swimming in butter but I like to think for the lite menu they at least go easy on the butter when cooking the chicken. It may or may not be true but whatever helps you sleep at night, right? I’ve never had to wait here, and service is pretty quick and efficient.

YUK! Need I say more?! The one star is for the sweet tea and nice service we got even though they stopped refilling water and tea after just once and we did hang out for a couple of hours — no, not crowded. We were the only ones around on a Sunday night. The food however… scary ugly yukky and laawwwts of it arrgh! ps/what kind of a place puts chicken fried steak on their ‘lite’ menu LOL
