This is a newer restaurant, so I’m trying to keep that in mind with my first visit. My first impression wasn’t all that great. The restaurant looked nice; clean, organized– it didn’t «look» new(in a good way). There were only 2 people working. The young lady at the register wasn’t able to answer a military discount question, and didn’t offer up much help when I asked what was the lunch special… She told me to go back and read the door. The gentleman in the back doing all of the cooking is, whom I would assume, the owner. Not much conversation, just a simple, straight-forward, and slightly uncomfortable transaction.(P.s. I always like to engage the employees, in a positive way– whether I’m being waited on, served from a counter, or a drive-thru window. When they don’t respond to anything, it gets awkward.) I ordered the 2pc white(fish) lunch special($ 5.99) that came with fries and a canned drink.(They didn’t appear to have to-go cups yet). When I opened the take-out box, I saw not 2, but 3 pieces of fish. They were very small, so I imagine the extra piece was to make up for the lack of serving size. It would have been nice, but the fish was not at all good; looking, tasting, or anything. It was was over-cooked and dried out. I couldn’t eat but the 2 smaller pieces, and I had to drown them in hot sauce, tartar sauce, and even ranch to make them tolerable. The fries were perfect. Almost had a beer-battered texture, and perfectly seasoned. Hardly dipped in any sauce! I also had the small side order of fried mushrooms– a good serving size of 10 pieces.(Had to ask twice for the ranch dip). They were cooked perfectly. Very juicy and flavorful on the inside, a nice golden-brown outside. Perfect. I will give this place another go. I saw they had Italian beef on the menu. That’s a rarity in Memphis, and I look forward to giving that a try on my next visit.
