Since, this is my «best kept secret,» I contemplated not writing a review for fear that the word would get out and there’d be less stuff for me! However, being selfish is not an attractive quality, is it? So, here it goes: Garbo’s is the whippity — whip! I heart me some re-sale stuff(that’s what inspired my thrifty Thursday blog posts). The owner, Joanne, is super friendly and is willing to compromise on prices, especially, if you purchase multiple items. For instance, I found a cute Prada bag(I’m sure it was a knock off, but it was still a cute bag that was in excellent shape), D & B bag and a Kate Spade bag that I absolutely loved. They were all in fantastic shape — tons of life left! Of course, I didn’t NEED three new bags, but she said that if I purchased all three, I could have them for a steal… I think it was $ 45.00. Now, how could I NOT buy all three? Some of the drool worthy flapper style stuff is solely for decoration, it’s not for sale, but there are two levels in this old midtown home, with resale items in each room. I’m not sure where Joanne purchases her goods, but I get the idea that she scouts antique and estate sales. So many fabulous things. On my last visit, I even spied, with my little eye, barely worn Ferragamo heels! Of course, they were under $ 30.00 and about a size too small. As far as pricing goes, it’s the most expensive of the thrift/resale shops that I frequent. However, for some of the items that you can score there, it’s relatively inexpensive — please refer to the 2nd paragraph!

One of the best parts about visiting my grandma when I was a kid was getting to play dress up with the huge closet full of vintage clothes and hats in her attic. Most of the clothes weren’t anything special, but the hats were amazing. Going to Garbo’s Resale is sort of like going shopping in my grandma’s attic. It’s a little musty, decidedly unorganized and filled with clothing and accessories that are either completely amazing or completely ridiculous. I spent some time poking around the old Victorian house today. There were racks of shiny 1980s prom dresses, a ton of vintage wedding dresses and plenty of newer resale pieces. Garbo’s is run by an adorably enthusiastic woman named Jo Ann. She’s been running the shop in Midtown for more than 15 years, and she’s totally willing to pull clothes that she thinks will work for you. Garbo’s is open Tuesday — Saturday, 11 a.m. — 5 p.m.

This is a Great Vintage clothing business. Located in a beautiful two story beautiful old home in midtown. The area is good and safe. The owner is nice and intgeresting, with music of the times flowing throughtout the house. We were almost dancing in the room. There are a variety styles and eras. From ball gowns to blouses and slacks. Great for the classic beauty or for that Halloween costume. The prices are reasonable. We got a vintage Gerber hat for 35.00 and a beautiful skirt with scarf for 42.00. Good quality and well made. I can’t wait to go back!
