I went here with my family for dinner after church. The highlight of the meal: the vegetables. The cabbage, lima beans, and black eyed peas were very good. The meats however, were lackluster and slightly overcooked. I tried the ham, the baked chicken, and the fried chicken. I did not finish any of them as they were a little dry and not very flavorful. The salad bar’s offerings were meager and not very appetizing. For example, the cherry tomatoes were orange as if they were not yet ripe. Peach cobbler was the desert, and I just sampled it. It was okay. The cheesy potatoes were sinfully delicious. If you go, get them. The dressing was also quite tasty. It was nice to have some good dressing in January. I would come back when I’m in the mood for homestyle vegetables.

The Gay Hawk is one of the hidden pearls of Memphis. Mr. Bobo cooks in a way that no one else in town does, and his smile will disarm and enchant you. This is one of the only places I know in town that has good turkey neck. Honestly, it reminds me of the southern buffets of my childhood.
