I’m kind of in love with Murphy’s. It’s the neighborhood hole I wish I still could access in San Diego. I’ll take it in Memphis though. We showed up. We were bought drinks. We played guitar with a beautiful singer named Grace. Traded jokes with a talented young comedienne. PBR was $ 2. As good as it gets for sure. And the bartender offered to put us out of towners up for the night. We didn’t take her offer, but it shows just how awesome these folks are at Murphy’s.

On 3⁄2 Halfgrass played here. Packed house with lots of burgers and drinks consumed. Good time had by all. Bennie keep up the great service. Hope to see you on St. Pats Day!

Murphy’s gets 4 stars alone for being within walking distance of my house. Seriously convenient. The fact that it also happens to incorporate all the things that make up a perfect dive bar just make it all the better. You know those completely overdone movie scenes where the hero or heroine is down in the dumps and pulls a seat up to their bar of choice and orders a double«and keep ‘em coming»? Yeah, should you ever find your life mimicking this movie montage– this is that bar. It’s dark enough, homey enough and anonymous enough to pull that kind of thing off. Like other reviewers have mentioned, Murphy’s is a great place to catch a live band. The drinks are cheap and strong, so put on your big girl panties and be prepared to have a grand ol’ time(now you know why it is so imperative that this place is within walking distance of my house.) Someone mentioned the patio deck. Yes, that one or two weeks out of the year for good outdoor weather here in the south are perfect for this patio. Given the location on Madison, sometimes it can get a little loud with traffic, but if you’re experiencing this place correctly, you shouldn’t even notice.

So many good, bad, and hazy memories of this place. Use to come here all of the time. Use to work here for a short time. Saw my fair share of things here, but it was always a good time and the staff are all great. The shows are fun, prices are good, and the drinks are pretty strong. Everyone come and tip your bartenders! :)

AHHHHHH Murphy’s. I’ve loved, hated, laughed, cried, drank, been merry, been miserable, thrown up all over the tables outside(and inside), been partially nude, just about everything in this humble little bar. Seen so many great shows, met so many great friends, played some of my favorite gigs, so many great memories I’ve made here. it’s kinda small. It can be very crowded. It can be loud and the people can be obnoxious. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve heard the shows here get nuts. Unfortunately I didn’t get to catch any live music in this particular venue while I was in town… Air conditioning blasts. Holy hell, is that alone worth it when you’re not used to the southern heat. Drinks are stronger than Popeye and reasonably priced. Staff is entertaining, friendly, and only humourously condescending. Bathrooms contain no vomit, urine, or immitation Pollock pieces. All in all, a solid bar that will make you feel at home 500 miles from home.

If you’re into dive bars, you’ll love Murphy’s. It’s a little dark, a little seedy, but totally cool. Locals come here because they serve up strong drinks, cold brew and offer some pretty decent bar grub as well — like fried cheese sticks, jalapeño poppers and their fairly famous«Murphy Burger». A lot of really good bands play here, and you can check out their myspace page to keep up with who’s scheduled. The link is . Oh, and they have a nice deck as well. A perfect spot to kick back when the weather is cooperative.

Located across the street from the former, late– great punk club ‘The Antenna’(now gone the way of CBGB’s) Murphy’s has taken up the musical mantle of it former neighbor. Murphy’s is a great place to see a punk band or rock-n-roll show. Seems like most of the younger, rockabilly and punk bands that come through town play here, as well as a fair share of local bands. They have great burgers and ‘pub grub’ for lunch and full bar and choice of beers. A back room pool table and outdoor patio area provide good conversation spots, between sets.
