New Hong Kong

So I’m standing in line at target waiting for the slow cashier to ring up the order in front of me When I started to crave some good Chinese food. I am kinda sick of the 2 – 3 that I frequent so I decided I wanted to find something new. I jumped on Unilocal and here it is the new Hong Kong Chinese restaurant. They had a 4 star rating with 11 reviews. So I said to myself screw it I’m going!!!
So here I am at the restaurant and my first impression walking in was this place is pretty clean. They have about 8 tables to sit and eat and there were 3 people eating when I walked in. I looked over the menu and notice everything is fairly priced. I then looked into the kitchen and everything was surprisingly very clean in back which is very rare for a hole in the wall restaurant. I ordered the general tso’ chicken & crab Rangoon which was pretty good!

This place is that crappy/​amazing «hole in the wall» restaurant for Chinese food. They also have a large vegetarian menu with mock beef and chicken. Don’t count this place out until you try it!

Okay, let me tell you my «beef» with chinese, it’s actually just that, the BEEF is questionable… amongst other meats. I’m always left with the feeling of what am I eating?! Don’t you hate that? Food should be a lot of things, enjoyable, pleasurable, down right orgasmic. But what it should definitely not be is, questionable.
Now that I’ve explained to you my view on Chinese. Let me provide you with my review for Hong Kong’s. I had spicy chicken egg foo young and (extra) vegetable fried rice. The temperature of the food was; excellent. There is my complete positive on this pace. Now, the food was decent at best.
First: I LOOOVVVEEEE spicy and they gave me a little cup of it on the side, why?, I have no idea especially since I asked for my food spicy.
Next: The gravy was also on the side :-\ again I have no idea why. However, with all that being said the chicken patty was pretty good. The gravy a little thin and I didn’t care for the vegetable rice. The vegetables were like from an economy can of veggies or something not fresh. So will I go back.
In Closing: If I ever have another hankering for Chinese food and am not able to get to Hing Wang’s on Wilson Ave in Chicago (please try them if you’re ever in Chicago, the best Chinese I’ve ever had in my life!) I guess will go back to Hong Kong’s, why?
Because in the five years that I’ve lived in Memphis I have not had better Chinese, anywhere else and that’s saying a lot. Oh well, you do what you can, with what you have. Sorry about the super long review but, I feel strongly about disappointing Chinese food.

I called in an order this afternoon. My mother picked it up on the way to my house. I had order a large chicken fried rice and a large egg drop soup. I open the too box to find shrimp instead of chicken. I hate shrimp! Some I called up there and told the lady what happen and she told me she would make my chicken fried rice. My mother went back to get my correct order. They made us pay for the meal even though they messed up. They didn’t tell us to bring the wrong order back so that’s their fault.
On the phone order she didn’t not repeat the order not did she ask for a name. To make someone pay because you messed up means you need to learn better English and read up on customer service.
We will stick to our Japanese food since the Chinese in this area sucks!

Just found my go to Chinese place.
Food was pretty awesome. They cooked it right after I ordered it. No sogginess or mushiness. Vegetables were crisp, sauces were good, and over all hot and delicious. The price was a bit high (I ate dinner here), but I’m not too broken up by it. My whole family was pleased by New Hong Kong’s food. We will definitely be coming back.
The place was clean. The staff were nice and friendly. I really had a great experience here. It’s refreshing to find a place that isn’t a total dive, but still delivers excellent food.

This is my go to neighborhood chinese place. It is a great value, and never takes longer than the 15 mins to pick up my order.

I don’t prefer to eat on styrofoam and with plastic forks. This is a take out with a few tables. It was my first time here, and not a stellar experience. That said, the food was decent. I had Gen. Tso’s lunch. Very inexpensive. A little too sweet and not spicy enough. Comes with a canned drink. (No fountain drinks. No iced tea or coffee.) I liked it well enough to finish my chicken and leave a tip! They should offer tea. And it might be good not tell their daughter in front of customers to use the ladies room out front because it is not as bad as she says and is «clean enough». :-). They gave me a wallscroll for coming in. I guess it’s the holidays.

There is a secret vegetarian menu!!!
Mock duck, mock chicken, mock beef, and mock seafood — totally delicious and very inexpensive. We had the sesame mock chicken and the beef with broccoli. The small sizes of each were more than enough for two of us. It was fast and cheap and good — when on earth does that ever happen??! Vegetarians: run don’t walk!

i been here i couple times and have had a very good experience. i have order the chicken chow main. very big portions noodles were cooked very good a little crispy but a really like that. i also have had the orange chicken i order it very spicy very good. i would i give five star but i would like too see sweat tea or heathy choice for drinks…

I have been to this location many times. The cashier is so friendly that made me feel like I’m part of her family. The quality of food is really well which really surprised me. I highly recommend this Chinese restaurant to everyone.

I was a little nervous going in, what with the bars on the windows and such but the place was a pleasent surprise. Probably the best General Tso’s I have had in town, the lunch specials were a great deal, canned soda and all! This will definintly be my go to lunch special chinese place, good thing it is right down the road from the university!
My only complaint is where was my fortune cookie?

This is a good place to eat. The food is good but if you start getting away from the chinese food than you run the risk of your food just being so-​so. I say this because they offer some things not chinese like subs and what not. Everyone I know just gets the General Tso’s chicken. I think they had a write up in the paper a few years ago about their General Tso’s chicken being the best in memphis. They were also nominated to be one of the 100 best chinese restaurants in the country. I don’t really see how but what do I know. This is mostly carry out place but they do have places to sit and eat. The give large portions.
