The pancake shop is an institution. Great southern breakfast food pretty much anytime you want it. I have been coming here since before I can remember and I’ve always enjoyed it. This place is way better than any E’s or CK’s in town. Try the everyday special or any of their pancakes and you will not be disappointed. The lunch is pretty good too. Don’t forget to bring cash because they don’t take cards. They do have an ATM inside however. Don’t miss out on this yummy southern food staple.

By far the best breakfast I’ve had in Memphis. Great people everyone makes you feel at home. Food was fast and amazing. I will make a trip there at least twice a month.

Food was amazing, but with that said the staff is extremely rude and act like they are doing a giant favor if you ask for something. After they brought my OJ they never if I needed anything else — had to ask for water and then never even got it.

Great place for a cheap yummy breakfast! Will definitely be going back to try the bacon chip pancakes! Coffee is also good and the staff is nice. Make sure to have cash with you… although they do have an ATM inside if you forget.

This is one of the best diners in the city! They serve breakfast all day and have great burgers for lunch. If you love gravy and grits with country steak with perfectly cooked eggs, this is the place for you!

Total favorite is the peanut butter chip pancake with a drizzle of chocolate and whipped cream. All you need is one. The richness will take you away. I also enjoy the patty melt. The service is efficient and the price is right. Bring cash. Usually no wait time.

Cash Only!!! A breakfast anytime place that always hits the spot. I’ve only had breakfast food at the pancake shop and it is always delicious.

The service was the worse thing in the world, much more awful than McDonald. The waitress I had was discriminate against me and my date. They offer dog food look alike. Disgusted! Expensive. Go to McDonald.

This place is the epitome of down-home meals and service. Every employee has a smile and the food is delicious.

This is a great little breakfast place off of Summer Ave. Food: The food was very tasty with enormous portions. I had the country fried steak breakfast, which came with two eggs, hashbrowns, and two biscuits. I was able to finish about ¾ of the plate and was stuffed. The gravy for the CFS was delicious, the scrambled eggs were a little overcooked. Otherwise, a very standard southern breakfast. My brother had the sausage crumble pancakes, which were pancakes with sausage cooked into the batter. They were incredible, pancakes light and fluffy and the sweetness contrasted with the sausage was perfect. His kids(both 4) shared a 3 pancake, egg and bacon plate. They were nice enough to accommodate us by giving them 6 dollar sized pancakes rather than 3 large pancakes. Price: Three meals plus a coffee cost $ 22.50. An excellent value for the amount of food we received. Service: Since we went on a Saturday morning, it was very busy, but the line went quick and our waitress was very attentive. Ambiance: It certainly looks like an old timey breakfast place. Lots of Memphis stuff on the wall, which is a great addition. A word of warning. It’s straight cash, homie, no cards. Good food, healthy portions, reasonable price. What more can you want? 4 stars.

The pancakes were good every thing else was not that good. When I went to the register to pay there were little bugs every where I will not be going back.

Note to self: GETTHEPANCAKES! Also CASHONLY! Ok, now that that’s done, I can go on. I came here with friends for breakfast and had an ok experience. It wasn’t the tastiest food ever but it wasn’t terrible either and I took my food home with me. I got the Grilled Chicken Omelet with extras(onions, green peppers, jalapenos, tomatoes, and pepperjack cheese) and it tasted ok. I liked the chicken but in general it was just ok. The hashbrowns tasted plain and tasteless at first but better with the omelet. But I loved my pancake that I picked as one of my sides with my omelet. Loved: — Pancake Liked: — Grilled Chicken Omelet Disliked: — Hashbrowns — Pecan Waffle

One of my favorite breakfast places in Memphis. There is absolutely nothing fancy here just an old house with some odd clientele in not the best area. I usually call my order in and go pick it up because this place can get packed in the mornings especially on the weekends when I can go. I love an omelette could eat one everyday and they have an excellent one really all of the omelettes are good really can not go wrong with any of the breakfast items… their breakfast is so good I have not tried anything else on the menu. The ladies that work here are super nice but I would not cross them they look as though they can deal with any rowdy bunch that comes in. If you are looking for a good breakfast give this place a try beats Blue Plate, E’s and all the other places in the area.

Recently had brunch there with a fellow retiree. Had breakfast(biscuits and gravy with two eggs over easy). Food was good, but not outstanding. Waitress was lecturing me on what an over-easy egg was(she could have been more diplomatic).

Tried again this time the server was at least nice. We were all charged an extra $ 1 for crispy hash browns. Seriously they charge $ 1 to leave your hash browns on the grill a little longer! Ours were barely crispy. They serve frozen Sysco service product crap but, they are very proud of it. I’m not going back twice was enough for me. Disappointed :(things have changed but not for the better.

I am a breakfast connoisseur. If there were doctorate programs for Breakfastologists, I would have graduated magna cum lauds and numerous buildings named after me. That being said, I haven’t even gotten my food yet and I already know it’s better than anything I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. I have already prepared my soul to be cast into the third circle of Dante’s hell for what I am about to disgustingly devour. I can only hope that my boyfriend won’t be completely repulsed at the sight of me after I am done. I did this review prior to eating because I know that I will morph into what looks like a human form of Gak and will be useless until quite possibly tomorrow.

A cozy down home place with friendly service and good food. The blueberry pancake was good, though I didn’t care for the blueberry compote placed on top. The traditional buttermilk pancakes were really good. I also enjoyed the bacon and eggs. A good local joint for above average pancakes. Cash only!

Sooo good! We went as a large group, and they busted their butts to accommodate us. They rocked the service and the food was amaze balls! I recommend the western omelette and/or the banana pancakes. I sampled both and they were wonderful and very filling! The coffee was kept coming and it was great too! The only downside this place has at all is the fact that they are cash only. Other than that, they’re perfect!

There are a few culinary experiences you must have to be a «proper» Memphian. 1. Declare allegiance to your favorite BBQ joint 2. Go to a soul food restaurant and 3. Visit the Pancake Shop It’s pancakes, anyway you want them any time you want them, what’s not to love? They have quite the selection of breakfast options to go with your pancakes and even have some sandwich options — ignore these you are there for PANCAKES, which are fluffy, perfectly cooked and delicious for the record. The hot chocolate is also surprisingly good. They only take cash and there’s usually a wait but it goes pretty quickly. Expect a diverse crowd and low glamour. And for heavens sake respect the code of sunglasses and baseball cap on a weekend morning means I don’t know you when I look like this.

When I wake up on any given weekday, I usually have enough time to take a shower, grab some junk food out of the pantry, and head to work. Since I don’t get breaks at work(OK, maybe 5 – 10 mins every 12 hours, sometimes more if my bosses aren’t around) — I MAY be lucky to sneak to the gas station or McDonalds around the corner. When I get off work, my options are Steak n Shake, or thankfully now– The Pancake Shop. On the weekends, this place is mobbed. Thankfully at 2 in the morning, not so much. I snapped the other night and just needed to get out, and eat something decent– so I drove by, did a completely illegal turn on Summer, and pulled in. I had $ 20 cash left on me, and I knew it was cash only, so I had to make it count. Upon entering, they fairly warn you«cash only, no checks, ATM inside». You can sit wherever you want(including 2 rooms, and a patio). I just sat in a booth, waiting to chow. Mind you as well, it looked like I just got out of a bar fight(aka, work). I was greeted by a nice girl with a realllll slow draw(at first I thought it was a joke) — and had my Coke(hell yea) on the way. As I was looking on the menu– they have 2 sides– an 11a-7p menu, and an all day breakfast menu. Obviously this place is known for their pancakes, but I was looking for protein. At the bottom, the most expensive item is the Dixie Breakfast, which is a huge piece of ham, 2 eggs any way, 2 biscuits, gravy, and hashbrowns. All for $ 8.85. Now, some could say that is pricey– but let me tell you what– that is a lot of food, and that cut of ham is worth that alone. The food came out quickly, and my mouth was watering when it came out. I literally went for the ham first and even thought about eating the bone(at least take it home for a souvenir). All I know is, the only thing left on the plate was the silverware. My check was put at the table, and you just go up to counter and pay when ready. I think the whole meal was right around $ 10 with the coke and tax, but I just told her I needed $ 5 back. Worth every penny! I am a big fan of finding places that serve a lot of food for cheap, especially southern style. And the fact it is 24 hours, well, «hell yea!»
