I have had this place bookmarked for sometime and finally got a chance to visit! This is certainly a place worth checking out if you live or work in the downtown area. It is a nice break from the usual tex mex joints when you’re looking for some Mexican flavors. They have Mexican and Cuban foods, offering simple dishes of good quality. Loved the chips and the Cuban sandwich! Prices were very reasonable and service was super friendly. Parking was easy but it is in an area that seems a little suspect after dark. Just be aware of surroundings. Highly recommend!

Great food!!! My fave for Cuban food, best in Memphis. The best fried plantains and black beans I’ve ever had. Yum!!! Cheap & delicious :)

This place is awesome! I work dowtntown so there aren’t many options for authentic Latino food. I’m super glad I found this place. The owners are super friendly! Ordered a quesadilla and tostones to go and it was really good. Tastes homemade.

Excellent place, friendly staff, inexpensive dishes and GOODFOOD. The owners of Sabrosura have been in the business for decades and it shows. Both the cuban menu and the mexican menu are excellent, and feature plates from other countries like Peru and Ecuador. Personally, I’ve tried several items on the cuban menu. I recommend the Churrasco, the sampler platter, and definitely the sandwiches. Oh the sandwiches… Anyways, If you are low on cash, the spaghettis are big, super tasty and inexpensive. My favorite is the Spaguetti Real. The empanadas are also very good and make for a good lunch. My only concern –and this doesn’t really affect the experience– is the location. It is at the heart of the medical district, and looks fairly safe, but it is very easy to miss. They would get a lot more business if they moved to a busy intersection. Hope it stays afloat!

We stopped in here late one night on the fly because we’ve been meaning to try it out for a while but kept forgetting. Anyway they did not disappoint!!! The Churrasco was my favorite item. Although it’s hangar steak,(I believe), it was juicy and flavorful and the chimichurri sauce it came with made it to die for! We asked for guidance and the server was so very helpful. When we asked her ‘Should I get this or that?’, without any hesitation she had a recommendation and they were spot on! Forgive me if my review isn’t very helpful. It’s been about a month since we were here and I’ve spent the entire day today with my face planted in the computer entering SAS syntax for my thesis and now, Proc Unilocal; Brain not working makes reviewing hard; Model sabrosura= fried_sweet_plantains yum need_food_now/s; Run;

New owners and tweaked recipes. The food, the service, the environment, everything was great! My wife and I both had Ropa Vieja, one of our favorite Cuban dishes. It was delicious. The location doesn’t look like much from outside, but don’t let that discourage you. It is great inside and you’ll be glad you tried the food. I haven’t yet tried the Mexican, but I know it is authentic. Not Tex-Mex but true Mexican!

Great quick lunch spot if you work in the medical district, maybe a 10 min walk from the VAMC and less than 5 min walk from Regional One or LeBonheur. First of all, it’s very clean with decent bathrooms so that’s always a star in my book! Secondly they give fresh chips and a spicy salsa right when you are seated, another star. Husband and a buddy both had the Baby Churrasco which they gobbled up. It’s tender flank steak served with a small salad, black beans and rice. I had a chicken empanada which was tasty but the filling was a little dry(easily solved by dousing it with salsa.) Also don’t forget to get the sweet plantains, a great way to end the meal.

Had the beef empanada and the ham and cheese one. Both were good, but the beef was much better. The cuban sandwich was OK. Everything was inexpensive. Great parking!

OK — I went back(who can blame me, it’s so close to work?). This time the service was much better, but also the food was a lot better. In particular the mexican refried beans were much better. They must have switched recipes to something much tastier.

The staff is very friendly and the Cuban food was really delicious! The batido de Mamey is very good! They also have 2 for 1 beers everyday! This place is definitely worth a visit!

I took my niece to lunch here on several recommendations. It appears to be a family operation. Everyone working was very friendly and attentive. Décor is very basic. Parking is spacious(and free) which considering its proximity to Le Bonheur is a nice perk. The chips and salsa were nice. Chips were thin and crispy. The salsa was smooth and had a nice kick to it. I was excited to see their Cuban menu. As my niece had never had Cuban food, that is what we ordered from. They have a smaller lunch menu for their Cuban specialties, though you can also order from the dinner menu. Of course, what we wanted was on the dinner menu. My nice loved her Chicharron de Pollo(fried chicken strips served with pickled red onions). I went for the picadillo. Both came with congris(black beans and white rice mixed together). We thoroughly enjoyed both dishes. We took our leftovers to a friend who said the smell was so wonderful that she ate them right out of the container without even reheating them. I will definitely be back.

I stopped in today for lunch on a whim and wasn’t disappointing. After scanning over both menus, they have a Mexican and Cuban, I ordered the Baby Churrasco(grilled meat) off of the Cuban lunch menu. The meal was served with a side of white rice and black beans as well as lettuce, onions, tomatoes and cheese. Everything tasted delicious and there was more than enough food to fill me up. The staff was very nice and checked in on me multiple times during my visit. My only real knock on the place is that their Cuban menu doesn’t really explain their signature Cuban dishes. I was forced to break out my phone and start googling the names of the dishes to get an idea what I would be ordering. I really enjoying sampling other cuisines, but lack of a basic description makes it a bit challenging. Overall, I really enjoyed everything and plan on going back to try the other dishes.

Very good cuban food… Service is a bit haphazard. The fried plantains are excellent. I do suggest sticking to the cuban selections.

Working in the Medical District makes it hard to get good food close by with a short lunch hour. Sabrosura is only a block west of LeBonheur with ample parking. A friend at LeBonheur who actually is actually from Cuba had told me about this place recently — and I am glad she did. If you like Cuban(or Mexican) for lunch, you need to check out Sabrosura. I had the Baby Churrasco(lunch portion) and it was simply great. Rightly seasoned with a generous portion of meat and add-ons. A quick glance over the menu confirmed to me that I will need to make several more trips to sample all of the good choices. I will be going back to try the Ropa Vieja and their Mango or Papiya milkshakes and Flaun. If you work downtown, treat yourself to some fresh, delicious food without too much of a wait. You’ll be glad you did.

Like having a great home cooked meal! We happened off the interstate in search of a good meal and found this brand new restaurant in downtown Memphis. The location is easy to get to from the highway and good parking if you have a large vehicle. The restaurant is very clean and the staff was welcoming and attentive. My husband had the Mexican Carnitas Dinner and I had the Cuban Puerco Asado. Both meals were excellent and the portions were large. I really hope this restaurant makes it. It opened the beginning of May. If you are looking for great Cuban or Mexican food that is reasonably priced and beyond the normal offerings, stop here. It’s worth the effort.
