I remember when sekisui was a respectable restaurant — I’ve been twice in the last month. The first time — I gave them a pass — everyone can have an off night but when I returned it was even worse. The service was awful — all the food took a long time to bring out and when we tried to pay they never came to pickup the check — after waiting twenty mins we finally scraped together enough cash and left. Nobody said a word to us as we walked out. The food was worse than any place I can remember ever going — I would have prefered eating a tv dinner… The only thing that was good was the home made ginger salad dressing(served on ice berg lettuce with one tasteless grape tomato). Sushi was skimpy and very ho-hum and the Kushiyaki dinner I ordered was inedible — literally — and it was one of more expensive items on menu at $ 22. Such a shame — this place used to be good. Hope the owner reads these reviews and shapes up. I for one will never return again!

Cold Kirin and delicious, well-made sushi at the end of a really hot day? Perfect! Found Sekisui on Unilocal as we rolled into Memphis from eastern Tennessee. We started with the ceviche and edamame. The ceviche was delicious, but it was more like a salad mixed with some sashimi than a usual ceviche. The dressing on it was amazing. We got an assortment of rolls and a veggie combo plate with tofu, mushrooms, eggplant, peppers. The salmon scallion roll was SO good — perfectly fresh salmon. The mushrooms were melt in your mouth buttery umami goodness. Unexpectedly amazing!

There is nothing else to say that hasn’t been said. The owner built sushi culture in Memphis and now across the mid-south. The wait staff will be spot on,. a party of two on the floor to 20 in a private room, they have you covered. Freeway close and awesome parking. I do have to say there are places in Memphis that you could eat as well for less. The pricing here has gone over the hurdle for me now. 4 adults and 3 kids was $ 200. When 2 piece nigiri is $ 5 I think about it, but when 1 piece of salmon is $ 3.95, that I’m not doing again. I would suggest hitting one of the coupon sites online to find a little relief.

Great place and service. Room for large parties and booths for smaller parties. Available seating at the bar or sushi bar for one. Waterfalls and deco to give the place a cozy feeling though you might get splashed slightly from time to time. It’s been hard to find a good sushi place since I left NY but I was surprised and loved this place. The sushi was great and they had tons of special rolls(don’t forget to check the board behind the sushi chefs!). The chirashi I had a little hard time with since it had a random extra ingredient in there that I was not use to. Yikes! They have a few choices of ramen that are tasty(it’s been hard to find good ramen)! Hibachi is also on the menu so you can skip the other chains you normally visit. Though I was surprised to learn that this too was a chain but mainly based in the South(with the exception of one in St. Louis, MO.

First off, I enjoy Sekisui Midtown. For some reason I thought I’d try the East location last night. That was a mistake. We were seated and then forgot about. When service did show up, we placed our order. We waited for a good amount of time for our food. As we are waiting, the wife asks«I wonder why they haven’t brought out our salads yet?» I didn’t think anything of it until the waitress brought out our tray of sushi. I asked her about the salads and it was clear that they were forgotten about. They were eventually brought. They were also the best part of the meal. The sushi was terrible. The fish was not fresh and the construction left much to be desired. Plus our original waitress took off after the whole salad thing and then we had two other waitresses. I guess she was at the end of her shift because I saw her hanging out with what looked like some of her friends on the other side of the place. It was about this time they started pumping hip hop through the house speakers(I love hip hop but not when I’m trying to go on a date). In short, this location has bad food and bad service. I wouldn’t reccomend wasting your time here. Go to the midtown location instead or try Edo on Summer.

Oh how I adore sushi. I have had my fair share of both phenomenal and horrid(I’ve lived in both Chicago and Arizona and I will let you guess which state belongs in which category cuz it is pretty obvious) — and this particular Sekisui had some of the best sushi I’ve ever eaten. In fact, I’ll go out on a limb and say it is my new favorite. Everything here was phenomenal– the service, the food, the prices– everything. I love that they have the tatami mat section where you can take off your shoes and sit on the floor. It makes the sushi eating experience more authentic. I was amazed at how fresh this fish was. I had both raw and cooked rolls and couldn’t decide which I liked better. My husband had a combo of rolls and sashimi. I’ve never been a fan of sashimi, but he encouraged me to try some tonight and I was shocked at how amazing it really was. There was no hint of fishiness in any of it. On a slightly odd and irrelevant note, the wasabi was extremely potent and fresh also. Our waitress was an absolute doll, as was the Asian guy sporting the Justin Beiber haircut who made sure our waters were constantly full. The whole experience was made even better by the $ 25 coupon we got for $ 1.50 off . I probably never would have tried this place otherwise. My advice? Bypass Bluefin altogether(worst sushi experience ever– and that even tops Arizona) and drive out to Sekisui. You won’t be disappointed.

This location has got a real Japanese chef in charge of the kitchen. As expected, the restaurant serves the traditional Japanese fare and extensive menu of rolls and nigiri. Fried Seafood platter with ponzu and tonkatsu dipping sauces was crisp and light. TenJu was a lovely dish as well. Various rolls were excellent. The absolutely poor service is the sole reason for the two stars. Our waitress had a poor command in English. We were unable to understand her and, thus, ended up with 2 extra orders of TenJu. Furthermore, she was clumsy and upset a glass of water. The whole bad experience was aggravated by unprofessional haste she threw our plates on the table. It would be deemed expedient to check and re-check orders.

This is my favorite Sekisui location in the city. I love it because they have the tatami mats– you can kick off your shoes and sit on the floor, fun! They also have semi private rooms to the side for groups. It is a great place to come with friends or for a special occasion. I also like the sushi bar area, my husband come here often and sit at the bar. The atmosphere and sitting choices here are the best of all their area locations. My favorite roll is the RedBirds– shrimp, crab, mayo, crunchies, and hot and sour sauce. They have a good variety of daily special rolls and I always try one of them and have never been disappointed.

My favorite sushi place in Memphis. Sit on the ground, kick off the shoes, got a stream running through the place. All of our sushi and sashimi has always been good. It’s really the ambiance here that does it for me. There’s probably better sushi to be had in Memphis(not Bluefin), but this is a very relaxing place to eat. It is a chain(I’ve been to the one downtown in Memphis and also in Little Rock) and they’re consistently good.

My favorite Sushi place in Memphis, affordable and always delicious. There is also a huge menu full of stuff… and a grill in the back… but I love sushi so if you love sushi… go go go! You can even sit down at little tables with pillows(shoes off please!) …too much fun!

Sushi for the rest of us(and the place that introduced sushi to Memphis nearly 20 years ago)! I’ll admit, I’m no expert on sushi: until recently, my sushi experience had been limited to rolls, and I can still count on two hands the times I’ve eaten nigiri and/or sashimi. And I’ve definitely been to more upscale, trendier sushi places both here in town and on the West Coast. But my fiancée and I return here just about every time we crave sushi(about every 2 or 3 weeks). Why? Consistency. We’ve had dozens of meals here, and none of them was bad. Less exotic than, say, Do, but much more value for the money.
