Mary Tuthill has one heck of a store! I have been trying to pop by here for literally YEARS, but always seem to drive by too early or on a Monday/Tuesday. But this morning when I was picking up the Unilocalies photos from Jamie at America… THEYWEREOPEN!!! Now, for those of you who know me or read any of my reviews, you know I am an antiques freak. I love anything and everything vintage so this place is a goldmine! Definitely my new favorite store in town. I could spend HOURS here. I was in a bit of a time crunch and I had to buy something(it would literally pain me to NOT buy at least one lil thing), so I picked up a kitschy gold horse clock for $ 75 from the ‘50s. It is now proudly displayed in my entrance hall and I’m obsessed. Oh, and if you want, jewelry. Honey, go here. There are displays for daaaaays!

Lots of wonderful jewelry and Mary Tuthill is very helpful and knowledgeable. I just got a bracelet there and was pleased with the value. She asked me to correct her address: The shop is now located at 421 North Watkins

I collect antique cufflinks and stopped by here based on David M.‘s review. If you’re at all interested in men’s or women’s jewelry, Tut-Uncommon(pronounced like the pharaoh, I assume… I’ll be honest — it went over my head at first) is an absolute must-see. The jewelry they had in the floor cases was impressive enough, until — noticing that I was looking at cufflinks — one of the women working there showed me to a massive drawer that was itself stocked with twice the floor inventory. Prices ranged from around $ 15 to over $ 100, and were reasonable for the most part. I’d never seen such an amassment of Swank, Anson, etc. in a retail store in my life, and this has been a hobby of mine for some time. One update — it is no longer on Madison. It’s now in a small shopping center on Watkins, near the intersection of Poplar and Cleveland. It’s not a very big place, so keep an eye out.

Have a friend that appreciates ‘the finer things’ from years past? Do you love the idea of Estate sales, but loathe plowing through fifty years of someone else’s detritus for that one gem? Tut-Uncommon may be the store for you. There are cases of rings, ear rings, necklaces, brooches, pendants and for the guys: cuff links, tie clips, tie tacks and the like. If you know(or are) a girl into vintage(real & costume) jewelry, you’ll definitely want to drop in. Just a couple of doors down from Shangri-La records, and across the street from the original Huey’s.
