South Beach is also known as Katama Beach and is located on the south east part of the Vineyard across from Chappy. Just keep going south on Katama Rd until you can’t go any further and you’ll be on South Beach.
Of course the views are spectacular and the water always cold and wild. In fact since this is the real ocean the waves can get real crazy which makes it a real good place to stay on the beach unless you happen to enjoy drowning.
The whole area is a great place to bike but of course you have to stay on the road because the sand is so thick. It you enjoy walking you can start at South Beach Rd and walk west for over a mile until you reach Herring Creek Rd. If you are really ambitious you can continue west for another several miles along the beach until you reach Great Pond. Once you get away from the parking area chances are you won’t see another person or hear a sound except for the wind and sea.
