Great location, nice people and good food. The gazpacho was delicious. The kids really enjoyed playing on the rocks in front and the cherry dipped soft serve was a great treat for them. The bit of constructive feedback I’ll provide is the lobster roll could be a bit larger.

Everything is just as it should be in this perfect setting food shack on the Menemsha Basin. Really good seafood, burgers, ice cream and the lobster rolls are as good as you’ve ever had.

We try the lobster roll and chicken finger here. The lobster is fresh and tasty but the only thing needs to improve is need some sauce. I believe it will make it better. Love here!

We gave the menemsha galley another try last night & were somewhat pleasantly surprised. It’s hands down the best place for a quick dinner when in menemsha for the sunset — the other places nearby are unbelievably overpriced. I ordered the swordfish sandwich with pesto which was good but certainly not amazing, also got fries & a coffee frappé. The frappé was very good! Lots of flies in the back porch seating area which is annoying but the view really cannot be beat. We will be back

The lobster roll here was not very good. They put a big hunk of leaf lettuce in an unbuttered roll and throw a few pieces of lobster in top. Not impressed. The chowder is good.

The galley is a delicious little shack down by the water. They have seating around back to look over the small marina. The food was delicious I had the clam chowder while the rest of my family had crab cake sandwich and the lobster roll. Will go back sure!

great chocked full of potatoes and clams was their chowder. #2 on my search for chowder out of 6 on the island I tasted. Great cod and swordfish sandwiches.

Amazing lobster roll. Light, fresh and extremely satisfying! The meat was plentiful and filling.

The reason we ended up here, is that my wife doesn’t eat seafood(Blasphemy I know :) and this was the only place we saw near the beach to watch the sunset that had non-seafood options. The gentlemen at the counter was very pleasant. I had the swordfish pesto sandwich which was awesome and my wife, the grilled tomato and pesto which she also really enjoyed. Great prices for MV — would definitely return.

For a shack on the corner, this is a steal for a quick bite. There is no seating except the outdoor patio in the back, which is fantastic for a place to sit and eat a sandwich or cone and take in the vineyard. As long as you are not expecting 5 star table service, you won’t be disappointed. The fish is fresh, the ice cream is cold and all is very reasonably priced.

Came here last Saturday and had the best lobster rolls ever. The galley is completely unpretentious, expect rustic dining al fresco and your typical New England fares.

This place is awesome! It is a take out stand but there is a patio in the back with a great view of the water. The lobster rolls and clam chowder are terrific! Also the ice cream choices are great! Great place to grab a quick bite to eat!

I can’t wait to go back! We tried this place on a whim and it was delicious! I had a grilled eggplant sandwich and fries, and I was in love. I’ve also heard their chowder is really tasty. They have burgers, lobster rolls, ice-cream, vegetarian choices and a kids menu. Definitely something for everyone. The location is great and it’s right near the beach.

Thanks for consistently good food in a great setting… the back porch is tough to beat! Our group had good clam chowder, great pork rib special(yup, in Menemsha), fantastic swordfish sandwich… all good and very fair prices. Skip The Homeport and enjoy The Galley!

Lobster roll scored high on freshness, but other than the big meaty chunks of lobster, it tasted rather plain and incomplete. Very nice staff and a cool place worth checking out, though.

The Galley, an institution since before my mother first visited in 1965, offers classic tastes — if you stick to the dairy. The frappes(milkshakes, to those from outside Mass.) are thick and fine; I get the mocha, and sometimes tell them not to make it too chocolatey. For the child in all of us, the soft-serve remains a treat. The savory fare, however, leaves something to be desired. The clam chowder is far too salty, and the clams on the chewy side. The meat in the lobster rolls is too cold, and they have a heavy hand with the lettuce. The swordfish special was overcooked and dry the one time I had it. Although it can get crowded, the view from the back porch(where the ship departed in «Jaws») reminds me every time why I love the sensory pleasures — sight, sound, smell, taste — of Menemsha in summertime.

MMMM… we picked up tuna melts(made with fresh tuna!), swordfish sandwiches with pesto, lobster rolls and clam chowder on a ninety degree day for the five year old who has been coming to the island five summers already and insisted on it, got some lemonade to wash it down, and hit the beach. Walk-up stands with long lines that move fast. Seperate lines for food vs. soft-serve. It was so good, and so right! We wanted to sit on the deck overlooking the water, but it was packed, so we just ate it on the beach. Eating lobster rolls and looking at the ocean are good things to do. Bring cash.

Bare feet, wind in your hair, sand in your toes, sunshine everywhere and good summer take out food. What more does anyone need? Especially in Menemsha. Get your sandwich, soup, ice cream… whatever, it’s all delicious… and soak up the complete bliss that you will feel surrounded by this total perfection. Bring your camera, bring your family, bring a bottle of wine if you want one. Bring your treats from The Galley out to the rocks or onto the sand and you’ll be restored. Islands need more places like The Galley.

Inexpensive, lots of delicious fish options, and a gorgeous location overlooking Menemsha harbor… how can you go wrong?! When we were kids, we’d always come here for their delicious lobster rolls or fried fish and cheese sandwiches… and of course in the hot July afternoons, we’d beg our parents to let us get some of their soothing, creamy softserve ice cream on a cone! This is where I learned that people in MA call the sprinkles you put on ice cream«jimmies»…who knew! I still come here with my parents when I’m on-island. It’s sentimental, but the quality is still great and prices low, especially for MV. Definitely a great pit stop to make when you’re in Menemsha!
