Good competitive bid. Good team. Hard job. Good clean up. Efficient. Polite. All in all, GREAT experience

First off, I’m a long time Davey Tree customer and have spent more than $ 20K in tree services over the years for home and business. But no more. The Menlo Park office is a joke. These guys have no concept of customer service or what it means to run a business. Long story short, they missed appointment, were rude when I called them on it and their guy Jess Running actually told me to find another tree company. Well, that was actually good advice. There’s better companies to choose from out there. If you still want to use Davey, call Richard Hill in their San Mateo office. He’s much better and understands customer service.

I’m disappointed at what has happened to this firm. The Menlo Park office used to be an independent company called«The Care of Trees,» and they were responsive and professional and really pleasant to work with. Then they got bought by Davey Tree. The staff is the same and, to be honest, they’re very nice and they really do know what they’re doing as far as trees are concerned. That carries a lot of weight in my opinion. But my recent experiences with them have been frustrating. Their follow-up on requested services and on their own proposals has been very poor. I’ve had to follow up multiple times to get a proposal and to get work done after receiving the proposal. I got to the point where I asked them to let me know if they were too busy to do the work because I couldn’t figure out any other reason that they would not be responsive. Then, when they finally did come out to do the work, they overlooked one big overgrown tree that was on the quote.(They billed me for the tree, though.). I have only just emailed them about finishing the work they billed me for and I have every confidence they will do so. They have been very nice and polite throughout this process, but they seem to be disorganized and understaffed. To make matters worse, their office voicemail system does not operate properly. If you enter the business office extension, it tells you the extension isn’t valid, so you can’t leave a message with their office manager. If you enter one of the arborists’ extensions, it rings and then, if no one answers, it disconnects you. That’s just annoying. I hope they can figure things out because they are really good arborists, but I think they did a better job when they were a small, independent company.

We recently had Davey Tree Service remove a 200-year-old + heritage oak tree that was suffering from oak root fungus and represented a safety hazard. Davey came in with an extremely reasonable price quote. Turns out it took a full day longer than they expected to do the job, but they never even suggested they would charge a penny more than they originally quoted. They cleaned up thoroughly each day, leaving precious few wood chips on the ground. Moreover, they took great care to protect the undergrowth and plantings surrounding the tree. Overall, they did an amazing job, and I would recommend them in a heartbeat if you are in the unfortunate position of having to remove a tree.

These guys saved our kitty’s life after he decided a climb up a 60 foot tree would be fun. No other tree services wanted to come out but as soon as we told these guys a kitten was in a tree they decided they had to save his life! We will be forever grateful to them for their kindness. We will absolutely be using these guys in the future.
