Jim is an excellent percussion teacher. Both of my sons (in junior high school and then high school) studied with him, and both became excellent percussionists. In addition to being a very fine musician, Jim has an engaging and inspiring manner that really resonated with my sons.

My son took percussion lessons from Jim from 4th grade all the way until he graduated from high school. Jim was not only a great percussion teacher but also a mentor for my son. My son gets frustrated easily and tends to get very upset when he made mistakes. Jim was able to teach him various strategies on how to handle imperfection and to keep the music going. A very good lesson for music as well as for life! The fact my son is still playing in college is a testament that Jim is able to make the music fun for him.

Jim is a world class drummer/​percussionist and an awesome teacher. I’ve had the pleasure of working with him and watching him teach kids, and it’s a wonderful thing to see. I learned a lot myself, and I was supposed to be the «teacher» in that situation! I could not think of a better drum teacher for any student.
Playing and given instrument is really just a tool to play MUSIC, and Jim is always teaching this concept, playing your own instrument well, to serve the overall music that is being played. I would highly recommend him as a teacher for anyone seeking to be a better musician, and I can’t think of a better place for a beginner to start.
