Nancy Lee of Alterations by Nancy has revolutionized my wardrobe. As a large, busy woman with a very busy schedule, I struggle to create a wardrobe that serves my lifestyle and business needs.

I trusted Nancy for alterations for my wedding dress, and she delivered! She helped me completely change the neckline and make it backless. It was complicated work but she understands designs, lines and fabric. She made recommendations and ultimately achieved the look I had in mind. She’s also detail-​oriented and kept working on it until it was perfect. The end result was absolutely stunning!
I will be taking all of my challenging alterations to her going forward!

I have been a customer of Style Alterations for over 10 years and have taken both simple and detailed alterations to Nancy. I have never been disappointed in the quality of the work, although as many others have noted, the work is frequently not ready on time and her prices are rather high. I’ve never made an issue of this in the past, because the workmanship was worth putting up with a few minor inconveniences. However, today I had a terrible experience with Style/​Nancy and will not be returning.
Last week I brought a sundress to Nancy that needed to be taken in on the sides as well as have a band removed from the bottom of the dress and the dress shortened. Before leaving the dress with Nancy, I told her that I would need the dress by this Friday to take with me on a trip to Hawaii. I asked her to be honest with me and if the work could not be completed by then, I would just wait and have the dress altered at a later date. She assured me that it would be ready today at noon.
Knowing that Nancy often runs behind schedule, I waited until nearly 3pm to pick up the dress. It wasn’t ready. After much conversation, Nancy produced the dress — which had been completely ruined by one of her employees. The employee removed the band from the bottom of the dress, cut the dress, and then sewed the band back on (it was supposed to remain off) so that the length of the dress WITH the band sewed on, was what the length should have been WITHOUT the band. Removing the band now, would result in the dress being much too short. It has been ruined and I am just heartsick — it is a one of kind tribal dress that I purchased while on Safari in Tanzania in 2012 — it cannot be replaced.
Instead of doing the right thing and offering to compensate me for the dress, Nancy just wanted to talk about how her employee did not follow instructions. Frankly, I don’t care how the dress was ruined, the fact is that it was ruined. I will never trust my clothes to Style again. Clearly Nancy’s employees are not able to follow instructions.

Style alterations always does an exceptional job. The owner is kind, thoughtful, and helpful, and offered to deliver my pants if they were not ready on time. I will always go back here when I need alterations!

I’m late in writing this review — I’ve had consistently fabulous experiences with Nancy at Style Alterations for 4+ years.
When dry cleaners tore and then botched the repair of one of my favorite dresses, I took it to Nancy. She undid their work and repaired the dress practically back to new.
When my grandmother gifted me several of her vintage dresses, Nancy was the only person I trusted to take them in and up. One was a vintage Norman Norell with this gorgeous lining that Nancy perfectly preserved through the alteration.
Just this past week, I brought Nancy a dress that I love but that has just never fit exactly right. I loved it, I never ended up wearing it, and I couldn’t put my finger on what was wrong. Nancy had the idea to take some length off the hem and lengthen the bodice by adding the extra fabric to the waist. Now it looks like it was made for me and the added detail at the waist makes it far more interesting than it was off the rack. Yes, something like that is expensive but it’s quality work! You get what you pay for here.
I’ve gone to her to have jeans taken up and shirts taken in over the years as well but these are the highlights — thanks, Nancy!

She’s a nice lady and does a pretty good job but the clothes usually aren’t ready on time and the prices are the highest i’ve paid for alterations.

I got a pair of trousers shortened here and originally, they fit well. However, in less then 3 weeks, one of the hems completely fell out. So, I took back the pants and to their credit, they resewed them for me at no charge. After I picked up the pants, I thought all was well until I put them on and the pants leg that had been re-​sewn was now noticeably shorter than the other leg!
Very bizarre! Not going back.

I took a couch cushion to be repaired. The lady quoted me 25 $ and said it would be ready in 2 days. I went to pick it up and it was not ready. The next day I went to pick it up and it was 60 $ … I will not be returning to this alterations store. Service is terrible and they rip you off majorly.

Nancy’s group does wonderful tailering. I bought an expensive dress and happily lost a lot of weight before I wore it. She tailored it beautifully for a lot less than buying a new dress. She is professional and yes not inexpensive but worth the cost for quality work. Betty T

Nancy was great. Wedding dresses are her thing. She fixed it a few times to get it just right. I appreciated her attitude when I felt it needed a minor adjustment when I went to pick it up. Good quality work. You’re right Nancy, that bustle held up all night!

Dropped in on a Friday afternoon and they were able to hem my jeans within the hour for me. $ 18. clean, open space with private fitting areas, lots of mirrors, reminded me of wedding dress fittings. Easy parking across the street.

Prices were increased between when I dropped off and when I picked up. And it’s a little pricey for sure. That being said, my skirt and two pants were pretty spot on and looked great. They weren’t ready when I arrived but they managed to finish them up quickly and send me on my way. Will I return again? Eh, if I have to. To get my clothes hemmed for more than I bought them for (on sale, true) seems a little odd. It would have to be the right item that I thought needed the extra attention.

Nancy at Style Alterations is wonderful. I have had several pairs of pants, dresses and other things tailored by her. She always makes the garment look good, gets it done on time, and charges a reasonable price. Her new address is on Crane Street.

Nancy is amazing! Her attention to detail, ability to understand what the customer wants, and the quality of the service and product are far superior to the several other tailors I have used in Menlo Park and Palo Alto. The days of worrying about my clothing not being altered correctly are in the past. Additionally, the store is very clean and her pricing is very competitive. I highly recommend Nancy and her staff at Style Alterations!

The prior reviews sounded good so I visited Nancy. Don’t know if Nancy did my work or some of her staff did, but it certainly wasn’t checked before it wasn’t given to me.
I brought a sundress in to have bra cups installed. I was going to bring it on vacation with me. Nancy finished it in time for my trip, but I couldn’t wear it. One cup was noticeably higher than the other. I returned it after vacation, and Nancy said she would fix the height. She hadn’t noticed that the cups were also pointed in the wrong direction and didn’t lay right. Once this was all straightened out, the dress was just fine.

I ordered a dress on the internet for a wedding and the fit was very awkward… and to top it off I needed to wear it within days. It was Friday and I needed to pack it in a suitcase for a flight out on Wednesday.
I Unilocaled and found Nancy and all I can say is that she is a lifesaver. Not only did she promise to get the work done in time, but she had me come in for a couple fittings to make sure that it was going to look perfect.
She has a good eye and I am excited to continue bringing business to her.
I am going to be wearing a gorgeous dress at the wedding now that fits.

Prices are absolutely outrageous and the owner was very rude when I questioned the prices. I have also heard this from others.

Nancy Lee is the BEST! I’d love to see her on Project Runway — she would take it home *snap snap*

Nancy moved to 615-​B Menlo Avenue and expanded her business space. Next time you need a quick fix [clothing that is!] go see Nancy!

Yes, I have to agree, Nancy really is a pro!
I have brought her several complicated dresses that looked sort of «blah» on me because they did not fit well … and she cinched them right up and made them look stunning.
And she did as beautiful a job tailoring a hand-​me-​down designer evening gown for me as she did hemming my fiancée’s jeans and khakis!

I LOVE Nancy! She is the best! She’s quick — affordable — and the sweetest.
Mind you, this review comes from a gal that pulls together an ensemble of $ 800 Christian Louboutins, $ 29.99 Abercrombie army pants, vintage tank and an ever famous & pricey Chanel handbag. Got that visual? In order to pull that off, those $ 29.99 wonders need to fit … and fit well! ;)
