Nona’s is a shared space used by dancers and yoga classes. The yoga space is pleasant— hardwood floors with natural light coming in from the back door which can be opened for a breeze. Parking is always easily available and there is a good coffee shop just two doors down. At this time there are two teachers offering yoga classes at Nona’s. I can’t attend the morning classes so I can’t comment on them. Cheryl’s classes are«basics» and are appropriate for first-time beginners and experienced beginners or anyone who wants a good yoga session but doesn’t expect to do hot yoga or headstands or advanced poses. The students range from young to old. She teaches a wide range of poses with suggestions to adapt them to different levels. She teaches the basics of sun salutations as well and there is usually a vinyasa segment. She queries new students about their particular needs so that she is better able to guide them safely and productively. Classes are small so Cheryl can give a lot of attention to each student’s needs. I find the classes to be relaxing and soothing despite the fact that it’s a pretty good workout. It’s not hot yoga, there’s no drama, no «in» teachers with groupies, no groupon crowds and associated chaos, no boutique. Just peaceful rewarding yoga. The rates for these classes are a few dollars cheaper per class than all the other studios around. It’s a bargain.
