Night or day, rain or shine(on one specific occasion, at 3am when it was pouring — I’ve learned since then not to wear a new dress to close the bar if’n I’m always in the mood to attempt catching bull frogs …), I love this little place. There are plenty of pic-a-nic tables and benches for lazy lazing, garbage cans for cigarette butts, and even a small shelter with restrooms(a seasonal amenity of course). Depending on the time of year, tons of geese and ducks also enjoy this space. So watch where you step, missy! North of the«upper», manmade, Falls(there is a «lower», smaller fall just to the south) is where you’ll find the primo picnic spots as well as a public courtyard and quaint gazebo(for fun, my boyfriend and I like to call it «the GAH-zeh-bo»). After the sun has set, try standing on the bridge on Roosevelt Drive, looking south into the park and down the river. It’s a surprising view that makes Menomonee Falls a beautiful place(if only for just a minute, ‘cuz then the wind shifts and you can smell the landfill once again). The lampposts’ light dances on the water as it pulls your gaze further on to Main Street. … I very nearly waxed poetic about Menomonee Falls. Scary. In any case, I come here not only because it’s a stone’s throw from where I live, but also because it’s a place that feels good. And safe. Even in the tipsy, wee hours of the morning, when even the sun has said«Eff you, ten more minutes», I have never felt unsafe or threatened. Maybe my naïveté will deceive me some day, and a no-goodnik hoodlum mallard will mug me at gun point, but until that point I’ll still feel very comfortable coming here. No matter what time it is.

A fantastic little gem of a park hidden just off the main drag in Menomonee Falls. Beautifully situated along the banks of the Menomonee River, this park has excellent paved walking trails. Benches are also scattered along the path, in case you’d like to sit a spell. They even have stations that provide bags for picking up after your pup! You can usually have the paths to yourself; not a lot of foot or bicycle traffic. A great place for a nice walk.
