My favorite place to stop on my way back from Big Bear. Panuchos are my go to, but the cochinita privilege and mole enchiladas are solid too. Great service, clean, and good margaritas too. I will always stop here and hope you do too!

This is a hidden gem in a town where you don’t expect much. Mentone is a rural, little town. Casa Maya«nails» it on several levels: It’s family-owned; The food is absolutely fresh and It is MUCH, MUCH healthier than the common Mexican food we have come to know and love. This is Mayan food. .. NOT food from Northern Mexico or even Southwestern US. Do not expect to see a lot of lard, grease, cheese, etc. Mayan food is much closer to Caribbean food than Mexican, with more veggies, black beans, and an overall«light» menu. I highly recommend the Chicken Poc Chuc and home-made corn tortillas(which will blow your mind). I have never been a fan of corn tortillas. Then again — I’ve never had hand-made, fresh, hot corn tortillas. I have yet to meet a friend who goes there and just eats half of a meal or just one corn tortilla — even if you are a grease-lovin’ carnivore(like myself). It is a wonderful place!

I had the vegetarian panuchos, black beans and the white rice… All was delicious, nice presentation, friendly service and clean. The flan was an 8 of 10 covered with light chocolate sauce. Not as good as home made but close. Definitely coming back

I used to live in Yucatan about 50 miles from the former owner’s hometown, so I know what Maya food tastes like. This place has been going downhill for years. A few cliché Maya dishes and the rest is just«Mexican». If you want Mexican food, go elsewhere, because this place just isn’t good.

My absolute favorite food! Try the Cochinita Pibil tacos. I would eat them every day if I could. Great chips and salsa, friendly faces, and great service.

I hate doing this but for some reason it’s a got dam must. I get there exactly at 11am when they open to have lunch with a coworker. As we were parking right in front of the restaurant, the owner comes out yelling and telling us to move. We were in our work trucks so he thought we were about to use his parking lot to park and work. So I politely tell him«no sir. We are here to eat. It’s lunch time.» Then he says«well you have to wait about an hour because the cooks are not here and their is no food.» I thought he was joking but he was serious. Next time have your shit ready!!! Plain and simple.

This is one of the only local places I’ve been to that serves mole, which I love. The salsa was kinda bland the last time I had it, but again, liked the meal. The staff are friendly and it doesn’t take long to get in and out if you need to. Definitely worth checking out.

Hidden gem! This little café specializes in Yucatec food. Everything is made to order, prices are incredibly reasonable, the restaurant is immaculate and bright and cheerful, and everybody was really nice.

We love casa maya! Their salsa is yummy, and service is very good! My favorite is the soup! Sopa de Lima And the Panucho. I order it every time. The marinated onions are fantastic! The chips are a bit thick, we like thinner ones but the keep our bowl full which is great with 2 teenagers. :)

Sometimes it’s nice to have a Cantina that is close Quarters. A spot that you and a Group can waltz in and fill the place up. This is just that, a Bar and five tables on one side, and Family dining separated on the other side of the wall. The margaritas are so good, and if your craving that little Zing, then the roasted pepper salt on the rim Kicks it up Just the Right amount!

The empanadas are delicious and so are their black beans. The food is always delicious here, even if it can take a while.

The black bean soup is wonderful! My waitress made me a whiskey sour and it was just about the best damn drink I’ve ever had. Strong as hell, just the way they should be :)

Sorry everyone, had to give it 2 stars. This place is yet another case of the«emperor’s new clothes» Unilocal syndrome. I’m the kid yelling(or in this case writing) from the sidelines. Came in for the first time…“On a Tuesday” for thier $ 3 taco night special. My date ordered the tacos, while I ordered nopales(cactus) salad and menudo. We were given the customary chips and salsa — salsa not bad, chips not good. Very thick and saltless. Service was very friendly but food was very, very slow, even with 10 people in the whole place. 1st time trying cactus salad, so I can’t compare it, but def wouldn’t order it again. Menudo was ok, but I had to salt it at least 3 times. Didn’t come with tortillas either. Here’s the two star rating– the $ 3 tacos my date ordered were excellent. Lots of meat on a larger than normal(looks like homemade) tortilla. Meat very flavorful too. Very good deal. In summary, if I am in the area, «On a Tuesday,» and craving tacos, I would so go here. Under those circumstances only.

What a nice surprise! Prompt service and flavorful food in a tropical, family environment. Use to come here several years ago but wondering if the menu changed to emphasize more of the Yucatan specialties. Seems like there’s more flavor and unique dishes that help distinguish Casa Maya from your average neighborhood restaurant. Recommend the veggie Panucho and, as always, great table salsa! Glad for the disclaimer that the rice isn’t vegetarian and the sub of fried potatoes with red peppers was great. Definitely check this place out if your in the neighborhood.

Pretty damn good Mexican food for the deep IE, or anywhere else for that matter. On Rt 38 between Redlands & Big Bear, this Mexican spot looks like a tiny hole in the wall from the outside and is hard to spot from the road, but is actually quite spacious on the inside. Apparently, this is the place to dine for Sunday lunch because the place was packed like a sardines in a can. Down to the eats: The Conchinita Pibil plate was excellent — super flavorful and tender roasted pork. The pickled red onions provided a great balance to the spices in the pork. The turkey taco I ordered was just A-Okay. A bit dry and lifeless. I also sampled some of my dining companion’s ceviche. A solid ceviche, though not the best of all time. Still it was flavorful and a good call if you’re in the ceviche mood, though I would probably need to order a few tacos with it to fill up. Overall, it’s pretty decent spot in an area dominated by chains. Worth a stop by if in the area.

So here’s the deal, this place has great service; they didn’t say one thing when we stayed for 3 hours to catch up with out of town family. They even came over a few times to give us water and check on us. A+ for service. The food was really not that great. I love mexican food, and the salsa here tasted like ketchup and the food was not really impressive. I live around so many great mexican food joints, so this place was over shadowed in my book. Good service though!

We found this place because of the Unilocal expert Matt P. This place has great salsa and good chips. Our waitress had a great memory of everything we ordered(party of six). What I like about Casa Maya is that they offer lot of items on the menu that you don’t typically see in a Mexican Restaurant. They even have LAMB! I ordered the lamb tacos of course… and instead of getting beans and rice, I got a double order of rice. The rice came out okay, it’s not the best I’ve had but it was decent. The lamb was great, and the tortillas it came on were different than your typical tortillas too! They were a bit thicker and softer. Big place, able to accomadate big groups of people.
