The Mequon nature preserve is a beautiful place to take a walk. It boasts trails through both woodlands and grasslands. As you walk the main trail past the visitor center you can see a nursery area for saplings and other horticultural projects. The nature center often has school groups and on our last visit we watched them exploring one of the ponds located on the property. There is a observation tower which is a fun spot to check out the whole property. There are no lakes or creeks here, but it’s large space makes it a nice place to visit for spending some much needed time in nature and with our families and friends. Bird watching is plentiful here so make sure to bring your binoculars! We have seen many sand hill cranes hanging out in the fields here. My only complaint about this location is the large electrical towers running through it. It does take away from the natural experience but on a lighter note it has brought up many conversations about conservation and resources when we’ve walked past them.
