Man, wanted to like this place but ultimately definitely did not. Pros: Salad wasn’t bad Staff was friendly Decent area If you are really vain there are mirrors everywhere Cons: Sushi was small and not very flavorful Service was unbelievably slow. To the point of leaving multiple times. Took nearly an hour until we received our rolls Kitchen was suspect in terms of cleanliness. Never wanna walk out of place thinking you took a chance Servers were overwhelmed and not attentive Décor and restaurant were aged. Think early 90s Microwaveable items? Sound of a microwave in any restaurant isn’t very appealing Bottom line: If you have a groupon, like I did… It still Isn’t worth it. Midori has to take a strong look in the mirror(they have lots to pick from) and return to their former glory of bigger portions more flavor and better service if they want to continue business.

A few years ago, I used to eat at Midori’s almost weekly. It was my go-to sushi place. I loved their grand canyon roll. It was to die for. Then, they started to go downhill. My friend got food poisoning from eating there. About a year or so ago, I noticed the prices have skyrocketed! The Miso Soup is just broth with a couple cubes of tofu and a pinch of seaweed. I feel bad because they were really good. They should close their doors, rebuild, get some fresh supplies, and have a huge reopening.

First off, I would like to say that before a month ago, I was constantly at Midori. The service was usually good, standards rolls were delicious, and although atmosphere and décor were a bit stale, it’s charm was being a small hole in the wall place. Something has changed though in the last month or two that is forcing me to take a hiatus from Midori. The staff has shifted around and there is a new sushi chef behind the counter. The rolls contain about half what they use to, the rice is far from sushi rice and falls off the roll, and the service has gotten slower. I’m not exactly sure why the change has happened but it’s for the worse! Hopefully the owners see this and return back to the quality it once was, or I can’t guarantee this regular will be back anytime soon.

Food — 4 Stars Inside/Ambiance — 2 Stars Now, I am not the type of person that needs a fancy place to go to eat, by any means. Or even super nice. But this place just felt kind of dirty. The carpet looked like it had never been vacuumed. It was super weird when I went into the women’s bathroom and the seat was up(and it was not freshly cleaned). And it was kind of awkward because one whole wall was a mirror. Our table was right against it and I kept seeing myself in the corner of my eye. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to sit and watch myself eat. With that being said, the food itself was very tasty. We started off with some salmon sushimi. Yum! Then we split the Beverly Hills and Shrimp Tempura rolls. Both were very good. HIGHLY recommend the Beverly Hills roll — cucumber, avocado, tempura shrimp, eel, crab, scallop, white tuna, tuna, flying fish roe with a special sauce. The staff was friendly. Attentive. My recommendation? Try takeout.

You definitely are not coming here for the atmosphere. It is kind of small and dingy. We had a groupon so we decided to give it a go, even though the reviews have been iffy. We were one of two tables of people in the place and our service was very good. We shared 4 different specialty rolls and while they were good, they weren’t great. I thought they were a bit pricey for the quality. If I were to come back it would probably only be for the lunch specials.

Another couple, my husband and I went here with a $ 25 certificate before heading for a movie. We arrived first, had a reservation and were seated right away. The décor leaves much to leave desired. The seating and tables make it feel like a diner, and the walls are lime green with some Asian paintings. The cups are also diner-like or pizza hut-like. They are the red hard plastic cups(we are paying $ 25 + a person-we can’t get glasses?). While waiting for our friends to show up(about 10 min.) we did not receive any drink service nor menus. We flagged down a server and requested water. They brought the water back and asked if we were ready to order. We stated we had not yet received menus. They brought menus and we reviewed them. They have a pretty limited menu for a sushi place. They have a menu with words and descriptions and a different menu that has pictures of some items. I later wished I had taken a picture of the menu with the pictures on it. It appeared to be so dirty, likely because someone dumped a soda on it and then the carmely color dried all over it. I wanted to wash my hands so badly after touching that menu. How hard is it to reprint another color copy of a word document and replace that menu? One of our friends is a pescatarian that prefers to eat mostly vegetarian(tofu dishes). There are almost no veg dish options on this menu, which I found incredibly unusual for a sushi place. There are usually extensive tofu and stir fry vegetable and noodle options. There was maybe 1 – 2 on this one. The food didn’t take too long to come and the service was okay after the initial issues mentioned above. We ordered quite a few dishes to try, but I have to say the rolls were pretty pricey for the size and quality(small to average). The crunch roll wasn’t crunchy, it had somehow gotten soggy. The tempura was all thick breading. There were only 4 shrimp, the menu said 5.($ 19 dish) the rest was just veg tempura and plain rice. Our other friend has tried sushi all over the city and said he couldn’t think of a worse place. At the end after our $ 25 coupon the total was $ 90 and we left with an unsatisfied and disappointed feeling.

Living on the coast has made me a sushi-spoiled snob; and relocating to WI has meant an impossible search for decent sushi. Midori always exceeds my expectations, offering a pleasant experience & satisfying meal. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming despite its smaller size; though patrons with anxieties will be most comfortable by avoiding the dinner rush. Brought to life by a man more artist than chef, each meal is freshly prepared & delicious; every one a masterpiece so beautiful that eating it seems akin to sacrilege. Using skills developed through decades of experience and training all over the world, Midori is home to one of the select few chefs qualified to serve blowfish, a skill developed through decades of training and a lifetime of experiences all around the globe. Sitting at the sushi bar offers new tastes to try and stories of old to share, and given the chance a meal at Midori should not be missed.

Wow. Food was very good. Ran out of beverage halfway through my meal. No waitress even stopped by our table to offer any follow up service or drink. Finished our meal again neither my husband or I had any more beverage. Sat for another twenty minutes while the table behind us had 7 visits by various waitstaff. We were a party of two, they were a party of three. Finally we had to flag down a waitress that wasn’t ours to ask for our check. Waited another fifteen minutes… again with no food or drink… table behind us is up to 9 visits. Finally I stand up and walk towards the woman at the front who is totalling some bills. Checked out about five minutes after that. Waitstaff was relatively nice but received no apology for any delays from our waitress. The woman who rang us up said sorry. First time in my entire life I haven’t left a tip. A shame. Won’t be back.

Groupon’ed visitor — it seems like an OK way to drum in business, but I don’t think it should be a business model. Went as the dinner rush was rolling off on a Friday night and it took soooo long to get service every time we needed something. The time to our first asking for drinks /orders was longer than it should have been to have food in front of us. Sometimes the servers looked really busy finishing up with other tables, but eventually they were just standing around while we were waiting and eyeing them. The roll’s were all A-Ok to good for me. The octopus fishballs /dumplings were pretty tasty and the nigiri was pretty good too. I was lucky to not have to pay attention to price since I was being treated, but I don’t remember seeing anything too crazy. Décor was nothing to write home about, but it works if it’s clean. In the end I’d be hesitant to come back unless I had a lot of time on my hands(and hunger).

The sushi was good. The venue is smaller than other places I’ve been to. It was my first time trying the place out since I had a discount coupon. I did go back for takeout and would recommend to others.

I go out for sushi a few times a month to various places around Milwaukee. This was by far the worst sushi experience I’ve had… Stopped in earlier this week because we had a groupon. As others have mentioned, they have signs everywhere reminding the customers to tip off the full bill. I understand their concern but the number of signs was definitely tacky. Plus it made me think the only reason people come here is because of the groupon. We arrived shortly after they opened and a guy cleaning the bar area told us to pick a table and seat ourselves. He then went on to explain the wait staff wasn’t there yet and would assist us when the arrived(why open the restaurant if the staff isn’t there yet???). After about 15 minutes the waitress arrived and took our order. We got three specialty rolls and one regular roll. The rolls were sub par at best(didn’t taste fresh) and we couldn’t bring ourselves to finish them(for fear of becoming sick). The decorations are tacky and the menu and table were dirty. Definitely will not go back.

Do not waste your time or money. Overpriced and underwhelming. Rice is particularly thick and chewy and it ruins every item on the menu. Go south a few miles to Samurai instead. Food is much better, the service is substantially more attentive, and the prices are more reasonable. The sake selection is better at Samurai, too. I’m a proud sushi snob and it’s one of my favorite foods… Yet we left rolls uneaten at the table because they were unpalatable. Seriously, avoid this place.

Midori is probably the greatest resturant I have been too. The service is fantastic. The food is even better! They are very friendly and make an effort to make sure you have a great dining experience. Matthew, Chef Lee, Mrs. Lee and the entire staff are all top notch!

My husband an I enjoyed a quick and delicious meal earlier this week, and were both very impressed. We ordered the shrimp tempura roll and found the shrimp obviously fresh(!), and truly bursting with juicy flavor-perfectly cooked! Ordered also a fresh tuna roll, which was very good, but the soft shell crab roll was a standout and, we’re told, made from fresh crab. Unbelievable! Service was very good as well, and proprietress checked in to see that all was to our satisfaction, a nice touch, and far too rare. We tipped the sushi chef on our way out, and got a bright and grateful smile. All in all a wonderful sushi experience, and one we’ll be hoping to replicate when down that way again.

Decided to try this place out thanks to a voucher. It was very pricy to the point that it almost felt like the prices were inflated to make up for the«deal.» The food was average but they were also out of what should be a standard item for Asian cuisine. The service was outstanding; however, which is why I would like to bump up my rating a half star. Probably will not return.

The fish is not fresh compare to New York, but the price is twice more than New York. Only silly people will go there. If u don’t have Japanese food before and wanna waste money cuz u r too rich. U can try this place. It’s not because they are expensive, but just the food they offer does not worth at that price.

Great sushi first time trying sushi and it was a great experience, loved it ! Service was general nothing to really stand out but quick, I found it rather obnoxious with the hand written groupon posters saying we needed to tip servers for exceptional service and the entire bill before discounts.

I sometimes hear mixed reviews about Midori, but my experience has always been positive! They are well priced, and the fish has always been good quality. We’ve gotten shashimi here a few times and have been happy with it. We ALWAYS go with the daily specials. The waitresses are good at suggesting mild fish if that’s what you fancy. Their roll specials are usually quite delicious as well, and that tends to be what we go with. Maybe that’s why we’ve always been pleased. All around, the ambiance isn’t the best, but even Samurai in Glendale has some pretty tacky décor. I definitely don’t go here for the ambiance, but go to get some good grub that makes me feel refreshed.

I had vomitings after I ate fried oysters at Midori. They don’t seem to have much of a traffic to keep seafood fresh. As I wrote this, I noticed that another person wrote that he fell sick after eating at Midori. Eek — me thinks not for the food!

Although slightly turned off by the atmosphere, the food was pretty tasty. I wish it was a bit more cozy and decorated, but it was nice seeing a variety of people inside this Mequon Japanese Restaurant. I had the Sunflower Roll, Shrimp California, and Salmon Avocado roll. They all tasted very average. The prices were more expensive that what I had hoped and the service was acceptable. I would return if I was in the area.
