Merced Gardens

I recommend this place for all of your plant needs! My boyfriend kept talking about how he wanted a cactus, so on one of our month-​a-​verseries, I drove here on the way home from class to check out their cacti selection. I parked among the roaming chickens, & walked inside looking for where they would be. A girl spotted me, helped me choose my little cactus succulent & even gave me a travel box for it. It was a fun experience & I can’t believe it was my first time there in my 5 years of living in Merced. Hopefully I’ll be back soon when I visit the town!

I have never written a review but I frequently visit Unilocal to read them when wanting to try something new. I had an experience that I wish to share for no other reason than to forewarn any future customers wishing to do business at this location.
I recently purchased 5 bare root fruit trees for my backyard from Merced Gardens. The help and advice I received was great!!! Took them home and planted!!! I was so happy and excited about my new planting experience that I wished to do more. I already have raised garden beds so I was wanting to try some other gardening techniques and change things up with my limited space. Small problem… where I had planted 2 of the trees I wanted to replace with something else. Not knowing the return policy I gave the business a quick call to ask if it were possible to return 2 of the trees beings it had been less than a month since purchase. I had no problem if that wasn’t how their policy worked but just thought I would ask. Nothing would have prepared me for the hostility, raised voice and ignited temper my simple question would bring!!! After several minutes of verbal assault I asked if it would be possible to speak with the manager only to be told «I am the OWNER!!! And I’m shocked that you would even ask if you could return them!!!» I simply told him I was completely fine with their policy and could easily do something else with the trees but that his conduct was so completely inappropriate and unprofessional to an existing costumer. Not wanting to bore anyone with the whole conversation lets just say that I will be taking my business elsewhere. I always love supporting our local businesses and try to do so as much as possible and I’ve recommended a lot of folks to shop there… not anymore. It’s a shame they can be so friendly when they see cash in your hand but once it’s theirs customer service is OVER!!!
On a pleasant note there is a middle aged blonde lady who works there (not sure of her name) who is an exceptional help and is extremely friendly, she would be a great asset to any nursery seeking a new employee.

We just found this great nursery. The owner is so knowledgeable and helpful. He was willing to spend a lot of time with us, helping us to choose the proper plants for an area in our yard. He gave good suggestions of where to place them & how to plant and water them. We thought the prices were very reasonable.

I love that this is a family owned nursery with a lot of variety. The owner is VERY knowledgeable! They even hold free gardening workshops there. This is my new favorite place to buy plants.

Great customer service, good prices, good selection of live plants with a wide selection of gardening accessories.
