Aubrey Davis Park

Because it lacks an actual restroom with a foundation, Aubrey Davis Park is demoted to 4 stars. I only saw a portable toilet. However, I’m still a fan.
The great things about this park is that it is very clean and well kept, it occupies a great position offering views of Lake Washington and parts of Seattle across the lake, and can either be used for what it has to offer — green spaces, picnic tables, tennis courts, etc. — or as sort of a staging area for a walk, run, or bike ride across the 1.5 to 2 mile dedicated path on the I-​90 floating bridge, ending right next to and above the entrance to the Mount Baker Tunnel into Seattle and in the neighborhood of that same name.
I’ve never explored Mercer Island much. There is an actual small business area on one of the three or so exits across the top of the island along I-​90, and it has a supermarket or two, stores, gas stations, restaurants, some fast food, and even a chain hotel, if I recall.
Aubrey Davis Park is at the western edge of Mercer Island and is reached by the westernmost exit or by doubling back on the road that (sort of) fronts I-​90. It is not on top of the Mercer Island Lid as I thought it might be. It is next to it. The Mercer Island Lid is famous for being the mandated way that a revamped stretch of I-​90 would cross a part of this upscale island suburb without annoying its residents, for its bas relief concrete work, for its manicured landscaping, and for being, along with the floating bridge and the Mount Baker Tunnel in Seattle, one of the more expensive legs of interstate construction in the U.S.
Aubrey Davis Park, being on Mercer Island, comes with some fantastic views of water and mountains. Is it even possible to be thinking of any less than 4 stars?

A great spot where cyclists meet up and ride loops around Mercer Island. Well, I haven’t personally done it yet! However, Seattle Greenlake Triathlon Group just had its annually meeting here. It’s in the form of picnic. Some of the triathletes rode the loops around the island before hand. A couple of the triathletes ran from Gasworks Park over. And, some of us just drove there and enjoyed a sunny day for a nice picnic.
We brought our own stove for BBQ. And, we brought the tables and other necessaries. There’s very limited parking. I would suggest come earlier if you are planning to ride the loop. A small group of approximately 50 people. This place is just great!
You can also bring your dogs here! I don’t think it’s offleash park.

It’s a little hard to find if you’re trying to use Google maps alone and enter in Lid Park, but once you get here, you may be slightly amazed by its hugeness. The directions liked to waffle between taking exit 7a or exit 6 while you were driving. Maybe Google maps got into a fight with its satellite that day.
Yesterday, the Lid hosted Volleyball for a Cause: a grass VB tournament supporting Habitat for Humanity. With almost 140 VB players in attendance, and nearly 20 VB nets set up, it looked like a grass version of Seaside (beach VB.) Who knew that there was so much level grass area to set up so many nets?
Inside the gate, the grass area we were on is used for soccer, and there were also two baseball diamonds and a restroom. This is a fabulous spot if you’re looking to have a large family reunion or event (they had power sources for your audio equipment.)
The view is fantastic too; there were cement paths for people to walk on leaving the actual grassy park, but I’m not sure where they led to. I’ll have to come back and find out :)

Lid park is awesome! It has a huge tennis court, basketball court, baseball court, and a 180 degree view of lake washington. I feel lucky to live right next to such a beautiful park.

After a 3 mile walk across Lake Washington via the Mountain to Sound Trail, I ended up at Park on the Lid. Expansive grass area and plenty of benches with amazing views of the Seattle skyline. Parking is free as well and I noticed everyone parking there was getting on their bikes to ride the trail so it was a hub for this activity.

If you’re not a Mercer Island resident or a tennis player constantly looking for open courts, you’re not going to know about this one. Hidden at the top of West Mercer Island, the view of Seattle, the 90 bridge, and Lake Washington is spectacular. Although a little windy at times, which could ruin your game, it’s a nice park for all grass sports. There’s a giant soccer field below, a dog park above, and picnic tables by the dog park. It’s a decent size for taking a breezy walk and very good for practicing sprints.
If you are an early bird, arrive by 7 AM and you’ll easily get courts. 8 is pushing it, but if not, late afternoon playing may as well get you a spot.
