Flame! The pizza was great. Good crust, good sauce, toppings under the cheese, and speaking of cheese it was the best part. The Pizza Shack has a little seating area that fits about four parties. My guess is that most of the business is take out. The menu was extensive for such a small place. The only knock was the server could only be described as curt.

I must say, I wasn’t that impressed with this joint. There’s an old saying, «you never get a second chance at a first impression». My first impression was that this place was a little townie dive and I was spot on. The place’s name sort of basically sums it up. It’s a shack that serves pizza. When we entered the worker woman was curt with me. Yes, curt. Almost as if we were an inconvenience. At least that’s how it came off. We ordered an 8-cut pepperoni pie and it took 20 minutes to come which wasn’t bad. Inside this place, there is three booths so you can’t help but to feel cramped. When the pizza came, the curt lady just kind of was like«here you go» and plopped down pizza in a box and three paper plates. No pepper flakes, no Parmesan cheese, nothing. No fountain drinks either. They have semi-cold cans of pop in the cooler. The pizza tasted okay. Nothing great. Ho-hum. Two stars.

Wow, FINALLY I found a very good pizza joint relatively close to Crawford County. Driving home from down south and craving pizza, I checked out reviews here on Unilocal and thought I’d check it out. Very nice little place, easy to find and plenty of parking. I didn’t really look or care about the flowers as one reviewer was. I stopped to eat pizza. The sauce was excellent, not too sweet, not too much garlic. The crust was excellent, homemade and not too thick. Toppings were more than enough and as one reviewer mentioned, with real authentic pizza the cheese and toppings are suppose to slide off. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Just the right amount of grease. It is cash only but there is an ATM right beside the Shack.

I am a pizza snob. I actually decided I had to try this place after reading the 3 star review… all the things that review took points off for are the things I love. Most places I have lived, it takes several years to find Good pizza. I hope my seal of approval and this review aren’t the mark of death for the place. I loved Midway on Main in Harrisville(closed), next I found G P pizza in Barkeyville(closed)… and now this place. This seems strange to me because my 2 favorites in the other places I have lived built small empires with the crowds their food would bring in. Anyway, the sauce is absolutely perfect. The cheese is ridiculously stretchy, this is what happens when you use real mozzarella and provolone… also perfect, some have said too much of it, no one in my house. Cheese is supposed to slide off the pizza if you fail to either hold it level or grip the cheese and crust if you let it dangle. The crust, I like it, it is homemade dough, and moderately thick, just enough(~¼″). I think the dough could use just a little more salt? Toppings, the pepperoni on one was great. The other was sausage and mushroom. The sausage tasted good but was tiny ground granules. I actually considered removing a star for this, but it is the best pizza for miles, so I didn’t. I am partial to ¼″ pellet sized sausage on pizza. Their wings were perfect. They were fried exactly right, just overcooked enough to make them a little crisp. Just like leaving them in the deep fryer for 1 extra minute. Although my favorite sauce is Franks Red hot and butter straight off the label, theirs is great. I think it is a Red hot/Tobasco combo. These were excellent. There were 3 booths inside to sit at, as well as outside seating. Seems like enough or a small pizza shop. They are a CASH only business. They are directly behind the bank though.

Upon walking by, I saw hanging flower baskets, planted flowers along the curb of the adjoining bank parking lot… though OK… this could be good. Well, upon entering, there’s a counter. And that’s about it. There’s a few benches to the left and right … but that’s about it. I only ordered a simple small cheese pizza. There is some great seating outside, and that’s pretty much about the only seating, so you better like it. Anyway, the pizza came out and a young girl gave me a box with the pizza. Upon taking it from her hands, I realized immediately it was super heavy. Upon opening it, it looked like there was a bit too much cheese on it. And maybe there was. But upon picking the pizza up, a lot of it fell off. However, enough remained to satisfy. The crust was slightly thick, definitely not New York style. Nonetheless, not bad… The cheese was a bit processed, kind of reminded me of pizza hut, but not as bad. Sauce was A-OK, not overly garlicky or flavorless. Definitely coming back here again!
