We were recommended to this shop; while they did the job and resolved the issue, I laughed a little at the ‘urgent’ part of their bio, as I called on a Wed afternoon and earliest available was the following Tuesday. Most repairmen charge a service call fee; I get that. Most put that fee toward the cost of repair, something Dryer Vent Wizard doesn’t do. So, service fee, another fee to remove screen off vent, then another fee to vacuum the blockage out. I did appreciate his mentioning that the screen should’ve been removed when the house was built, and we should mentioned it to our builder, so we did and now we’re trying to get reimbursed through home warranty. As he was getting me to sign off on repair costs, he brought up ongoing maintenance program, and the upsell just felt awkward; felt being taken advantage of and like he was throwing FUD out there just to get the extra revenue. I’ll have to research, but I’ve never done regular maintenance on a dryer vent so was interesting to hear we should be doing it every year. And the program doesn’t cost much, but it doesn’t save much either; ROI would be 3 years before you save $ 10 a year on a $ 150 repair, less than a 7% discount.
