We’ve been going to Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe in Eagle, but the store is going out of business this week, so we came here and I noticed something right away; their salt water Taffy. It was way smoother than I’m used to and it reminded me of a place I visited a few years ago while in Salt Lake. Sure enough, the clerk confirmed their taffy is from Taffy Town; the awesome taffy place I took a tour of many years ago. By far the best taffy I’ve ever tasted. Their selection of sodas and candy sent my daughter’s head spinning, but not before she filled a bag of taffy and assorted candies for the road. And yes, they are much cheaper than The soon-to-be closed shoppe in Eagle too. I’ll be coming back again soon.

I am a chubby man and that is partially due to my love of all things sugar. When I learned that a candy/soda shop was opening up within a stone’s throw of my house, I had to investigate and I am glad I did. My wife told me a new shop opened very near our house and she suggested I stopped by to see if they have my favorite soda, Puma Kola. I figured I would give Poptops a shot but didn’t get my hopes up because I have only found my beloved Puma Kola at Powell’s across town. Low and behold, not only did Poptops have Puma Kola, but it was also cheaper than Powell’s. I should note, that being cheaper than Powell’s is a trend that continues throughout the store. I also talked to the two guys running the shop and they were very friendly and seemed knowledgeable about various sodas and candies. They were also quick to let me know that they were in the process of stocking the store with dozens more sodas and candies. These are my people. The only downside and one that they promised to rectify was the selection. Right now, Powell’s does have more candy to choose from but I have a feeling that lead isn’t going to last long. This store is fresh from Candy Land and is still in the process of getting merchandise in. Poptops is probably already beating Powell’s soda selection based on the varieties I eyeballed and so I think the candy will soon catch up. I am excited to see what is in store for this little shop. If all goes well, Meridian’s dentists are going to be getting a lot more business as Poptops grows. Sweet tooths rejoice! There is a new candy/soda shop in town and it is awesome!
