If I could give zero stars I would. Probably the most traumatic salon experience I’ve had in years, and I’ve gone to A LOT of salons in past years. I have dry, long, thick hair. It’s extremely difficult to deal with on my own so I’m forced to go to salons very often for help just properly straightening it. I came in to Rain Salon asking for a botanical conditioning a blowout and a straightening,(of course). The conditioning and wash went well and the straightening was alright. The stylist worked quickly and I thought it was because of skill but I realized before long that she was in a hurry. My hair takes a bit longer, naturally. She probably had a client waiting, which she did. She didn’t blow dry the hair all the way through because of her rush. Then the worst happened, I’d been needing a trim, so I said if we had the time to go ahead. She cut too much. It devastated me. The type of hair that I have, if you cut just. too. much. It gets puffy. All. The. Time. I asked for a refund at the end of service. I hadn’t had a good look in a mirror at my hair until I’d gone to the bathroom. But a woman not working that day but happening to be there refused me immediately. She was quickly defensive and talked over me. I’m a meek person, I never argue. I felt like I was bullied. I left the salon that day in tears wishing I was a stronger person who could stand up for myself. I was unhappy with the cut they should have refunded period. But instead they turned aggressive. Do not go expecting a refund for a service you disliked. They will most likely refuse you with the retort, «it was not done incorrectly.» It doesn’t matter if the service was unacceptable to you. Your opinion doesn’t matter. I won’t come to this salon again. To say the least.

I received a gift card for Rain Salon and Spa for Christmas and finally got around to using it. I called and scheduled my appointment and because this was my first time I needed to complete some paperwork. They suggested I arrive 15 minutes early to complete the paperwork or it would dip into my 60 minute massage. I was there 20 minutes early because I want all 60 minutes being pampered. As I completed my paperwork I was given a lovely tea and enjoyed the peaceful sounds of the waterfall. When the massage therapist came and got me she showed me the restrooms which are right outside the massage rooms. This is where I get frustrated and wonder who designs spas. Why would you put the only restrooms outside the massage rooms? The walls and doors are not sound proof so you hear people talking and doors slamming. A location away from the massage rooms would have been ideal. The massage was relaxing and I was given great tips for helping with my back pain. I do however feel a little cheated as it was not the full 60 minutes I had dreamed about, it was 50 minutes. I checked the clock right as the therapist entered the room and then again when she left. I understand there is prep time, but the price for a massage you should be getting the full 60 minutes. I will be back as I still have more on my gift card and hope that I get to change my review to 4 or 5 stars.

I recently went into Rain Salon and Spa after winning a gift certificate from . I probably would have never gone in if it wasn’t for that, because I live in downtown Boise and this location isn’t the most convenient for me. The gift certificate was for a women’s cut and botanical treatment with Kayla. It came perfectly timed, because my locks were in major need of a trim! I scheduled ahead of time for my day off, because I knew I would be running around a lot that day. I got there 5 minutes before my appointment, and the receptionist kindly checked me in. I sat and waited, for 25 minutes. Someone(who had noticed I was sitting for a long time) stopped by and asked who I was seeing. She went and checked with the receptionist and let me know that Kayla’s appointment before me had arrived late, but that she was just about done. I was a little irked by this, because I like to stay on schedule.(Also, tardiness is very rude in my eyes.) I know it wasn’t Kayla’s fault her appointment came late, but you think someone would have told me sooner! I was nearly ready to leave when Kayla finally came and got me. Kayla was nice enough, but very timid. I hate to say it, but I always expect hair dressers to be chatty people! If I have to sit for an hour+ while a stranger touches my head, I want someone who can keep a conversation growing. She started with a scalp/shoulder massage with some minty product. Then she shampooed me and did the botanical treatment in the sink, and gave me a hand massage while it sat in my hair. Nice touch. I’m in the midst of growing my hair out, so I didn’t want her to take too much off — just the dead/split ends. She suggested adding just a little bit of layers(to the ends) to add some volume, as my hair is pretty flat. I happily agreed. The cut turned out fine, although I could still pick out some split ends when she was done. Oh well. Before I left, she styled me just a little(I was heading to a massage, so I urged her not to do too much as I would just be throwing it into a pony). Kayla, true to the Aveda salon procedure, explained which products she was using and how they would help me style my flat hair. On my way out, she made a point to show me all the products she used on the store shelves, «just in case.» I work in sales, and have for some time, so this move irritated me. I understand half her job is to sell me Aveda products, but I’m a big believer in «earning the sell.» In other words, I don’t believe you have the right to try and sell someone something if you haven’t first built good rapport and have earned your client’s trust — which she unfortunately did not. I don’t think this is a salon I’ll be returning to. Besides the high prices and lackluster service, it’s too far from home for me.

I’ve been going to Angela at Rain for about two years now for a cut and highlight. I have long curly hair that usually costs an arm and a leg to get highlighted and cut. Angela does a really good job for less than I have paid at any other salon I have ever gone to. The salon itself is clean and well-appointed and the people who work the front desk are always polite and attentive. I highly recommend Angela and Rain.

I am so glad I found Sammie. It was the best facial I have had in a long time. I have oily, acne prone skin and the outer peace facial has really helped me alot. She is gentle and not a talker. I don’t know about you but I don’t like to chat when I am trying to relax. I do really love Aveda products too! I am in love with their botanical kinetics hydrating lotion.

Unfortunately the gal who I had been going to for 7 years decided to move shops, which I totally respect. The part that upsets me is that I had an appointment the day after her last day, I showed up and she wasn’t there. No one bothered to call me, they just assumed that I wanted to have someone else do my hair. We all no that we women get attached to our hair stylists. I would have really appreciated a phone call.
