If you are looking for an authentic Jewish deli, it doesn’t get any better than Hymies! I have been going here for years with my friends and we all love the variety and the amazing food. Great place for brunch when you need to catch up on the events of the night before(although i suggest getting there before 11 if you don’t want to wait) and amazing for dinner after a long day at work! If you are looking for a sandwich that you can barely fit into you mouth, try the turkey avocado B.L.T. So good. Love Hymies!

Headed over to Hymie’s for the first time today. I knocked off one star only because of exorbitant pricing — one sandwich was almost 12 dollars. Although Hymie’s takes advantage of its legacy to overprice some of their food(and sell souvenir mugs and cups adorned with their logo near the host stand), I’m really digging the vibe of this place. It has a cool, cozy neighborhood feel, and the waitstaff were all friendly and attentive(a huge plus). Although they offer all-day breakfasts, it doesn’t cheapen the feel or quality of the restaurant. There’s a free pickle/pasta salad/potato salad bar as well, which is another probable reason for increased pricing. However, if pickles and potato salad aren’t your thing, you’re SOL and you’re paying extra for nothing. In my opinion, this little side bar is an awesome addition and their pickles and potato salad tasted fresh. So, no complaints here! Do yourself a favor and order the Yelby. You will NOT regret it. It was delicious! I’ve never tasted such awesome hot brisket. And the fries that came with the sandwich were also fantastic — perfectly crisped, not soggy. The matzo ball soup is also amazing. I didn’t get to eat their dessert, but I’ve never seen such a decadent looking cheesecake. The next time I head into the city, I’ll make sure to swing by Hymie’s.

After my deli disaster last night at Michaels I needed a deli fix. Went for breakfast and Hymie’s hit the spot. Fried eggs with corned beef and a bagel. Enough said? I say so!

We had to wait for a table for a half hour on a Sunday morning, but our food came in record timing once we were seated. I don’t mind waiting for good food, but the issue with Hymie’s is that there’s no where to wait so you’re constantly in people’s way. It was uncomfortable. Once we were seated, our teenage waitress seemed less than phased that we were her customers. I ordered the breakfast panini, which was decent, and came with shredded potatoes and a surprise bite size cheese danish, which ended up being the best thing on my plate. Based on how great the danish was, if I ever go back to Hymie’s, I’d go for a sweeter breakfast option. Hymie’s has a pickle bar you can snack on while you wait for your food, so we tried what they had to offer and the pickles were good! They also have a deli on the other side of the restaurant with an assortment of desserts that I wish we indulged in. Overall, Hymie’s was affordable, well priced and fine to try. I wonder what their lunch options are like!

Across the board four stars. Great selection of NY deli and Americana foods… It’s rare to be able to order anything off the menu and know that it will come out good. Everything I’ve tried has been well above average and I look forward to continuing to work my way down the expansive menu. Come when you are hungry and don’t mind paying a little more then average.

My fiancé grew up down the street from this place and we go nearly every time we are in town. I’m not a pickle man but I love the pickle bar for all the pastas. They have great sandwiches. The Schmoozer combo is my favorite. More food than any single person needs in one sitting. It can get packed here but the food is prepared quickly and the tables turn quickly. No frills type of place. Just good quality food.

Overpriced and the worst coffee I ever had. The portions vary. Tried many times to give it a shot but overall dissapointed

Hymie’s, we so badly wanted you to produce some corned beef and pastrami on par with the famous Katz’s in NYC. Perhaps that was expecting too much, but we can’t give yours the same rating as theirs, and a comparison makes you a 3.5 for our taste. We had to take another 0.5 off for the poor experience my husband had at the register. Some young women were having a dispute about their bill with one of the staff. A number of staff members stood around watching the ridiculous bickering instead of helping my husband get processed so we could leave. There was no need to hold him hostage for a snarky quarrel when he was ready to pay, and it was especially rude that staff members would rather sit around and watch the fight than give us the respect of doing their jobs. It was like we were punished for trying to give them money. Really poor excuse for customer service, and made it a very unpleasant experience to deal with the staff. Corned beef reuben was ok but nothing outstanding about the meat, bread, sauerkraut nor sauce. Same for the pastrami reuben. Meat was cut in thin deli slices, not the big fat slabs that Katz’s gives you; another expectation we had that fizzled. For $ 12 you get a sandwich with about ½ the meat of Katz’s. You also get a little sauce cup of potato salad and a pickle, that’s it. The«sides» were both good, and deserved 4 stars each, but since they were basically like garnishes, it can’t really do much for the overall score. Also, I could not finish my sandwich because I got a strange aftertaste that seemed to come from the treatment of the pickle or the meat. It just put me off to get an unusual aftertaste like that. To be fair, my husband didn’t have one, so maybe it’s just me. We also had fries which were okay, but not excellent. They were pretty standard, but for the ratings on this place, we weren’t impressed. We didn’t finish them. They put a bit of money into their expensive takeout containers and custom printed wax paper(on the pickles and cold cuts). We wish they invested this money into the food instead. Sorry Hymie’s, we had hoped for better.

Go for the food, but remember everything is better with a little scmalz — or at least a little neighborly conversation. Always great traditional foods.

This is still one of the best delis in the Philly area. The soup and breakfasts are outstanding.

The pickle bar is always a big hit with my family. We have been coming here for years with my grandparents who live in the area. The menu has a large variety of options so it’s good for groups. Last time I came I had a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel along with an iced coffee. Our server last time was not friendly at all and seemed to be annoyed to be there, but that has been my only issue with service here. Make sure to check out the counter, which always has desserts that look to die for!

Sadly, I’m in town for a funeral so I write this review with a heavy heart. My wonderful cousin Rich passed away and that brought me back to my hometown. We went to Hymie’s on a recommendation and we were so glad we did. Though we were sad and down, our waitress Linda was just excellent. It was only after the meal that we found out that she knew Rich. Her sympathies meant more to us than anything. As for the food, and I know it sounds silly to still give a review about food, that’s what Unilocal is all about. We started off with the matzoh ball soup and it was fantastic. Hymie’s has a pickle bar and it was just great. We then had salads. Mine was spinach with chicken and strawberries along with feta and almonds. My guy had the julienne salad. Loaded with meats and just terrific. Even though I don’t eat cake anymore I could not avoid a piece of the Jewish apple cake. I drown my sorrows in it. My boyfriend got the Lemon vanilla cake and it looked like the size of a small pizza. Of course we couldn’t finish everything so we brought the desert home. Linda gave us her condolences and out the door we went with our take-out bag. Thank you Hymie’s for making an absolutely brutal day have a nice meal at the end with excellent service and a very beautiful clean restaurant. Kudos to Linda for the sympathy she gave to us.

I had a sandwich. The bread wasn’t bread, but thick, delicious, perfect potato pancakes, and in between was a steaming mountain of succulent brisket. Was it all just a dream? The world has changed for me. I’ll never be the same again.

It does not get any better on the Main Line. The owner, Lou takes enormous pride in his establishment. One never feels rushed from the table no matter how busy it gets. A perfect meeting place for BREAKFAST. Ideal spot for quiet conversations. There is a $ 5 eggs, bagel, coffee deal that is reasonable for the neighborhood. LUNCH time gets very busy, but after years of angst, they have this French hostess who is efficient, polite and attentive. I get a soup and half a sandwich. With the salad bar included it is a full meal and a bargain at $ 10. The pastrami is the best thing outside NYC metro area. The chicken soup is just fair, stick to the beef cabbage soup(it is terrific) but remind the waitress to make sure to put meat pieces in the bowl. ATMOSPHERE: It is THE place to be! An amazing neighborhood crossroads establishment. You see everyone here from the local gas station mechanics, to nearby St. Joe’s University staff, to UPenn surgeons, to the Township Commissioner, to the County District Attorney, to a US Ambassador. No airs, everyone is polite and friendly. A great institution in a wonderful neighborhood.

What an amazing experience! I have not had true, expertly done deli food since leaving NYC. Everything our server brought to the table was wonderful – salad, Sable platter, etc. And my sandwich? A mountain of corned beef, pastrami and swiss that will keep me in lunches for most of the week! A «slice» of carrot cake(that was, I swear, larger than my first NY apartment) topped off the meal. Best part can be summed up in two little words: Pickle Bar. I’m in love people.

I’ve been going to Hymie’s for many years and perhaps it can use a throwback Thursday to realize some badly needed improvements. In the years prior, the waitresses were a little crass but they were good at what they did. Hymie’s now hires a staff that is more focused in having personal conversations with each other than caring about customers. A few weeks ago I ordered a nova platter. It was not edible. When the waitress finally came to my table with the check and asked if everything was good I said the fish didn’t seem fresh. Her response was they have a new place they bought it from and she’ll tell the manager. Today I ordered juice and over easy eggs. The food was brought to the table and I asked the waitress to forget the juice. She giggled and said oh, I forgot. The whole time she was chatting with other waitresses. The eggs came cooked well done sobs left them. The standard question was how was everything when she could clearly see nothing was eaten. Sam Barson would be spinning if he knew about the quality of his food and service today. He certainly wouldn’t recognize his own restaurant.

Had breakfast this morning and the food was good but the service was very poor. Waitress ignored me and spent all her time looking at the register or something. Had to get up and go back to ask for a condiment. She also never came buy to ask if my drink needed filling. I had to ask other staff for service.

It’s always a treat when Dining Partner agrees to take a drive out of the city to hit up a real jewish deli for brunch. I’ve been to Hymie’s twice now and highly recommend it. The portions are VERY generous and the prices are reasonable. I’ve had both the challah french toast and egg/potato/bread platters. The food is nothing spectacular, but it’s good and that’s sometimes all you need. It’s a popular place so it can get busy, but the line moves fairly quick. There are tons of menu options and the free salad and pickle bar is awesome! I’ve seen other reviews mention bad service, but I’ve never had an issue. Everyone has been very friendly and attentive. I also purchased matzoh ball soup from the to-go case, delish! One of these day’s I’ll tackle one of those ginormous pieces of cake on display when you first walk in.

Hymie’s vs. Murray’s is Pat’s vs. Geno’s only jewish deli style. Hymies is my go to. Its that place you have gone with every relative. Its the place with the pickle bar! Its the place you go for corned beef, pastrami and the type of sandwich you eat for three days. The waitresses call you hon. The place is consistently great. The market carries all things wonderful. How can you miss? Plus… Breakfast all day. Its like a diner only better. Love ya Murray’s but today Hymie holds my Gentile heart.
