My family recently stayed at Doubletree Ranch and we had a stellar experience! We reserved the Meadow House and Cedar House, both were perfect for the amount of people we had. The surrounding area on the property is beautiful and quiet, we enjoyed getting up early and going for walks. The large grassy area near the Meadow House was perfect for the kids to play frisbee, baseball and fly kites. Rick, the owner made everyone feel so comfortable and has very interesting historical information about the area, we really enjoyed talking to him. There is also a small beach area on the river there that was fun to walk down to and explore. I was amazed at how many different types of wildlife we saw while we were there as well. The whole trip was very relaxing at the ranch itself, but there are lots of activities outside the property to do during the day such as kayaking, jet boat tours, river rafting etc. I highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for a peaceful getaway where you have space to explore and enjoy the scenery with a rustic, mountain vibe. We have all decided we will be planning next year’s trip here!

This is our second stay at the Doubletree Ranch. This place is pure paradise, enchanting, and mesmerizing. I’m sitting on the screened-in porch of our cabin and have a panoramic view of the forest and can see and hear the river just below the ranch. Rick, the owner, built the rustic cabins and they are spotless, fully self contained, and have everything we need for an extremely relaxing and memorable stay. Rick and his wife Carol are two of the nicest people on the planet and will go out of their way to help you in any way they can. Being from Southern California, staying here in paradise helps us to put life in perspective and helps us to appreciate the simple things in life while we enjoy the beauty of nature. Each day here we are hypnotized by the view, the sound of the river, and seeing and hearing the songbirds. At night the crickets perform a symphony. We also have fantastic wi fi connection. Staying at the Doubletree Resort is good for the soul.

Now that I’ve been to Doubletree Ranch several times, two things stand out to me that make this a unique experience: the hosts and the ranch itself. To start, Rick and Carol are about the best hosts you can imagine. Carol seems to go out of her way to accommodate almost anything you could possibly need, and Rick has some sort of photographic memory in which he remembers things we talked about over a year prior. I’m always greeted with a personalized note on my cabin, and if Rick or Carol aren’t around to welcome me, one of the other cabin guests is just as likely to hail me in. Rick and Carol are hosts in the traditional sense– they are sharing their actual home with you, and want to make you feel like you’re at home too. The other host that seems to go under-recongized is Shadow, the neighbor’s dog who seems to turn up whenever someone wants to go for a hike or fire up the grill. Everyone loves Shadow! And she even seems to get along *really* well with every guest dog I’ve seen too. The ranch itself is a seemingly endless 160 acres of riverside property composed of woods, meadows, hills, trails and beaches. It’s basically nature, complete with wild flowers, plants and animals– land that was once used by Native Americans, homesteaded by Rick and Carol’s own family in the 1800s and passed down through the generations. While the trails aren’t marked, they are wide, very obvious, well maintained and crisscross the property connecting the meadows with horse pastures, barnes, and ridges with amazing views of the valley below. Most are very easy and accessible to people of all ages. The beach is a particularly good spot for relaxing and swimming, and chairs are provided for guests in a small wagon that remains about 50 feet up shore from the water. It’s fun to wave at the jetboats as the zoom by too. Accommodations at the ranch range from moderate-sized cabins(all hand-built by Rick himself) that sleep 4 or 5 to the large house overlooking the main meadow that sleeps about 12. There are also a few extra options like the covered wagon, with room for two, or the wall tents down by the river at the horse camp. So far I’ve stayed in two of the cabins and they have both proven very comfortable, cool, quiet and private. The screen porches are a really nice touch too, and the WiFi works great. I frequently find myself wishing that I could just let it all go and stay Doubletree Ranch forever. We can all dream I suppose.

We stayed here prior to going down the Rogue River on a fishing trip, as a response to Morrison’s extremely high prices. Located just outside Merlin off Abegg Road, this place is a dream. We booked the Meadowhouse, which has five bedrooms and sleeps 12 for $ 450/night. Since we were with friends we ended up paying about $ 90 ea. What a steal. The Rogue River is within walking distance and boy did we catch fish. The house is wonderful(there are also smaller cabins and even a sheep wagon for the kids). The owner raises draft mules which are friendly and love carrots. The outdoor deck and patio are large enough to entertain(they hold weddings there on occasion) a lot of people and the night stars will mesmorize you. We will definitely be back. Rick and Carol Ponte, the Owners are as nice as can be, and groceries are ten minutes away.

If you want beauty, peace and quiet… this is your place. Lovely cabins with many personal touches make this a wonderful and rustic escape. No reception, but at least 2 cabins have TVs with VCRs(and some old movies). There was a scheduling mishap with our reservation, but our hostess Carol went far above and beyond to make our stay outstanding. We will probably be back.
