I normally love steak ‘n shake, but Merrillville is terrible! We waited forever to be waited on. Waited forever for our drinks. Waited forever to receive our COLD onion rings, which were ordered as an appetizer. We then waited forever for food, which came out soggy. We had to get our own refills, after waiting for our slow waitress to come back, which she never did. Then, when leaving, we waited forever to get someone to take our money and let us leave. I am so glad I don’t live here. We planned on ordering stuff to go, but no way in hell would we give them any more money.

I am a big fan of steaks and shake for probably close to 25 years now. There was one at Purdue and since college I have always enjoyed their burgers if I’m in the mood for fast food. This location is a little slower than most though. It also takes a while to get the order right when ordering but otherwise, the food has always been good. Improve your staff and training if you want more stars.

Worst steak n shake in America. Don’t eat here. You’ll be sorry you did. Sloppy burgers with condiments stopped all over, half a cup of chili no spoon. Just horrible.

Nothings changed. Service was poor. Ordered a single cheese without fries. 35mins later, I was served a single cheese, as ordered. Two pieces of bread and a piece of meat. Was told afterwards that if you want onions, pickels and such, you have to order them specifically. Thanks wait staff for the info at time of order. Not.

Drive thru service left a lot to be desired. The gentleman working the window had zero pride in his work as he handed be a Coke where the outside of the cup was covered in product. No napkins in the bag. No salt on the fries and no salt or ketchup in the bag. Will not return.

Okay I went back to this same establishment after I was given in store credit to make up for the worst service and the most excruciating wait ever. I was impressed the wait staff was amazing, food came fast and hot and everyone seemed to be polite, complete turn around thank you steak n shake.

While the burger was just ok, it wasn’t what I ordered. A steak burger with a fried egg means I want a fried egg that is whole not yolk cracked smashed flat and over done. My fries were not hot I never got the water I asked for The floor is greasy The bathrooms aren’t clean. The wait staff is dirty. Yes, physically filthy. Stained aprons that have been used to wipe their hands all day and white dingy shirts with food stains. My last experience with This STEAKANDSHAKE

TERRIBLE!!! Dirty, Dirty, Dirty! Service was bad! We waited 15 minutes just for a server. The bathroom garbage was over flowing, it looked like it hasn’t been cleaned in weeks. There was a wet roll of toilet paper in the sink. I watched a server wipe a table with a used napkin-made my stomach turn. Will NEVER go back.

Clearly they aren’t reading their Unilocal reviews because just like Frank, I sat and was never waited on. I was seated very quickly but was never waited on. They walked by me several times and never even asked if I’d been helped. I sat for about 10 –15 minutes just waiting. Unlike Frank, I didn’t wait. I LEFT! So sad because they have good food and I was craving one of their awesome shakes

Waited in the drive thru for 20+ mins… the only reason I kept waiting was the thought of hot fries. Girl at drive thru window hates her job(and possibly her life) bc she was ridiculously rude. Even at the window I waited after paying… ice cold burger and ice cold fries. Even my chili was cold. What was I waiting for? My sweet tea was delicious! But I’m sad that I spent $ 8 and wasted my entire lunch break in line. Won’t go back. I’ll go to McDonald’s next time I want a burger and fries in a timely fashion. Only good: when taking my order at the drive thru speakers(after waiting for 10 mins bc of the long line) the guy apologized and thanked me for waiting.

Took awhile and I mean awhile to receive ANY kind of service or even acknowledgement! I started off seating at the bar area… No acknowledgement! So I got up to be seated in the dinning area, then someone approached us to be seated. He was very joyful and singing(which was nice), but then stated, «Are you wanting to be seated at a booth or was I going to be seated at the bar, where I was sitting previously?» Wow… this means that you and most possibly others saw me sitting at the bar for service w/o ANY acknowledgement! Needless to say the server, Eric, was very courteous and served us well w/the water w/lemons and food orders. Eric also smiled a lot, which was very nice! My Double Cheese Burger was tasty, especially with the lovely amount of pickles that were placed on the burger… which gave each bite a nice crispy texture! The Thin Fries were fresh and salted perfectly, as well! At the end the young lady, with a grossly amount make-up on, just walked away from the cash register and told another person to take care of us while I reached for my phone which was to display my coupon. Her make-up was scary but her leaving in the midst of transaction was an horrific example of good service! This experience was filled with a bunch of UP and DOWN moments!

The service at the is place has been going down for years. I have only been inside once, usislly in the drivethru. Tonight is the last time I will be at this location, which is sad because it is the closest one to my house. 1. No greeting or even a look at me at the window. 2. They FORGOTMYDRINK 3. The bag of food was basically thrown at me, again no please come again, no smile or even a glance in my direction, no acknowledgement of the customer at all. 4. This is the upteenth time I had rude service, and once they made me pull up and forgot I was in the five thru.

I’d been here before and the service wasn’t great. This time we walked in and were seated right away but we had a child with us & they didn’t give us a children’s menu. We think it might have been because it was a Sunday & kids eat free on Sundays. After waiting 10 mins. & no one had come to take out order, we loudly said we would wait 2 more mins. before leaving. Despite being next to the drink station and clearly seeing 4 servers standing around just talking, still no waitress, so we left. We will not try this place again. The location in Shererville has much better service & is worth driving out of your way if you really want to eat here.

I stopped in on a late Sunday afternoon with my family… the wife and my three boys. Outside — It’s hard to get to currently because of the construction but nonetheless you can get to it… plenty of parking spots Inside — It’s a decent looking restaurant. They have limited booths and the tables that we sat at were all wobbly. I don’t like wobbly tables… fortunately for me the boys think it’s funny to make the cups go back and forth on the table… sarcasm at it’s best here people. Also, I could not help to notice all of the«dirty» tables, it looked like they only cleaned the tables when they had to for the next customer. Service — Our waitress was fine but we only saw her twice… when she took our order and when she dropped off the check. So you might be thinking well who took care of you in between… some other waitress who really seemed disinterested but did take care of our requests … we had to ask for silverware, ketchup, our side orders that we ordered… all in a days works when we go to a restaurant… right? Oh… also we waited nearly 25 minutes for our food… it felt like 45 minutes but the turnaround time was not fast. We only ordered burgers. Food — The fries were cold… the burger was good… really liked the burger but again, fries were cold… two ways to say the same thing… I do have to mention that my boys really enjoyed the little steak and shake hat that they got along with the cardboard car that they got as part of the kids menu… it made those 25 minutes go by a lot easier. If you like milkshakes and burgers… this place is good. Don’t bother with anything else on the menu. Also, the service can be really bad and the food can take forever so plan ahead maybe send someone in early to place the orders before you get there and be sure to request fries right out of the greaser.
