I’ve been to other yogurt shops before but there is something unique about this place, even if it’s in the mall… This Yogurt MountInis in the Books-a-Million, smack dab in the middle of the mall(or at least the highest trafficked area.) I don’t go often(only reason is that I don’t want to gain 100 pounds!) but when I do I’m never disappointed. The flavor offered range from the everyday chocolate to the seldom seen birthday cake or to one of my favorites — kettle corn. The supply is always in full swing, the choices for topping are so many it takes me a while to choose, and the kids they have working there are, for the most part helpful, if not overly friendly. All-in-all it a great place to have a «healthy» dessert…

Note: They are located in the Books-A-Million. This place has completely changed my view of frozen yogurt in the best possible way. I was in the greater NYC area around the time that the Pink Berry crazy hit, and I tried, I really tried to like frozen yogurt then because it was hip and cool and I was 20, and that’s what 20-year-old students living in the big city do(although now its hipster to not to look like you’re trying while meanwhile making a tremendous, ironic effort… which is why I long since abandoned this effort entirely and… you know… grew up). I digress. Yogurt Mountain is the super antithesis of Pink Berry. If Pink Berry was the pretentious, independently owned organic food and exotic import grocery, Yogurt Mountain is Willy Wonka’s Factory meets your favorite beach side, penny candy shop. I just simply can’t get enough of Yogurt Mountain, and I am so glad they moved into Books-A-Million. There are 8 flavors of frozen yogurt available at any one time and the flavors rotate regularly. My personal favorites have been(in order):(1) Cheesecake,(2) Lemon Ice Box Pie,(3) Vanilla Bean. I’ve also had the cherry limeade, spiced apple pie, red velvet, and a few others. One thing I will say about every flavor is that they are sweet(not tart/papery like certain other fro-yo’s — I’m looking at you Pink Berry), fresh, and TASTEALMOSTMAGICALLYEXACTLYLIKETHEFLAVORTHEYCLAIM. This sounds somewhat tautological, I know, but I was really quite impressed by this. The cheesecake tastes exactly like my recipe for cheesecake batter, if it was cold. The spiced apple pie tastes like if someone made a pie and blended it somehow… you get the idea. This is rarer than I think some people may admit, as most things flavored in creative ways usually taste more like flavoring than they taste like the thing they’re claiming. Next, you get to completely have your mind blown by the huge array of toppings ranging from fresh fruit to candy and cookies to cereal, and then syrups from traditional to exotic fruit flavors. I have always kept my toppings pretty simple, and stuck to chocolate chips, fresh raspberries, mochi bits, and chocolate syrup. I like to taste the frozen yogurt, and I tend to be careful with toppings displays because I am allergic to peanuts. I will say though, that even though Yogurt Mountain says there might be cross contamination there, I have eaten at our local location many times now and never had any peanut problem(though I am not super sensitive). Pricing is done by weight, and is pretty reasonable. I usually get the smaller of the cup sizes, put small squirts of three different flavors in it and a little topping. That’s usually just about as much frozen yogurt as I can eat, and it lets me try new flavors while still getting a satisfying taste of my favorites. If you fill it the way the pictures in the store look or because its a big container and you do it without thinking, it will probably be way more than you want to eat in a sitting. I think the containers are big intentionally so you can put the frozen yogurt in, with the toppings, and as it starts to melt it doesn’t make you look like you tried to attack an ice cream monster with your bare hands(a fact I appreciate). All in all, its a delicious, reasonably priced treat that I have grown to absolutely adore. Thank you for changing my perspective on frozen yogurt!
