I spent the better part of a day recently, along with dear friend Sin City Farm Girl(SCFG), her Young ‘Un and the NMT. We were looking for a day of play, a tricky thing with a Moody Teen and his sidekick, and one that did not cost an arm and a leg. SCFG suggested Savidge, which is near their farm, so off we went. You can tell the place has been doing this for a while, as they had everything well laid out — from parking to activities to shopping. They also had a nice mix of free activities(such as a ‘sandbox’ full of dried corn that the kids spent over an hour playing happily in) and low– cost activities, the most expensive being $ 3 for a hayride to a pick-your-own pumpkin patch(cost of pumpkin you pick extra, weighed upon your return). There was mini-golf, shooting plastic balls in air cannons at targets, climbing on farm equipment repurposed as play gyms, going to see and pet baby goats, cow, piglets and see the emu, and of course the decently challenging but not impossible corn maze. Four and a half hours flew by, as the kids went from place to place. They even enjoyed a visit from some of the free-range hens who helpfully picked up any crumbs dropped around the outdoor picnic tables. Food options are as you’d expect — drinks(top price $ 1.50 for cold bottled water), chips, hot dogs(also $ 1.50). What I liked was the reasonableness of the items while still allowing the place to make a profit, not the price gouging we see at other farm operations we’ve been to. As for shopping — they have a beautiful selection of mums, very reasonably priced, and they have some(not an abundance, and again, not overly expensive) other food items like pickled hot peppers, etc. along with a variety of grown-on-site pumpkins, gourds, dried corn and corn stalks. Everyone who worked there was friendly, helpful and patient. We had a relaxing but entertaining day that did not break the bank, and came home with two exhausted and content boys. I have a feeling this place gets nuts in October, so go early in the season unless you don’t mind big crowds. Definitely will go back again next year.

Now this is what a family farm should look like. We’ve been coming for the past few years and their autumn adventure is nothing short of awesome. This farm is extremely family-friendly and that’s so important for us. We feel like welcome guests every time we come back. Everything is grown on site including the pumpkins. Unlike some of the other fall attractions around here. With a very kid friendly atmosphere and a lot for the little ones to do, your family will really enjoy their time here at Savidge Farms. The pumpkins are awesome this year and the corn maze is always fun. Can’t say enough good things about this place and I know my family will be back every year. I’m going to bet you will too!

Family owned and operated, if you are looking for a great place to take the kids this is where to go. Each year they ahve a corn maze, and farm tractor made into a jungle gym, pumpkin patch, petting zoo(with hand washing station), wagon rides and much more. They sell cidar, gords, indian corn, corn stalks, every color of mums and other plants. We go every year to buy our outdoor decorations and pumpkins, and do the corn maze! It’s never overly crowded and even set up play dates for local day cares and scout troops during the week. This place always puts us in the mood for fall.
