Painting with a Twist

Three simple words…
James is amazing.
Because of his patience, instruction and one-​on-​one attention, my painting turned out to be beautiful.
I have been to this location once before and highly recommend it.

This particular location of Painting with a Twist is awesome – they get my highest recommendation mainly because of our instructor! I signed up to do one of the larger paintings – a 3 hour class with Kerrie. The class was smaller than the usual PWT classes, I guess because it’s more expensive and a longer time commitment. I loved it. There were 3 attendees, so we all got a lot of individual attention, time to mix our paint and get the colors right and it almost felt like a private class. I loved it, so much better than the larger classes which often feel rushed especially at the end. Kerrie was very laid back, cool and funny. She even gave us an extra hour on our paintings. I asked her for some extra paint colors and she gladly let me use whatever colors I wanted, which made a huge difference in my finished painting. I would love for PWT to offer more of the large canvas paintings – I have mine proudly displayed on my wall and it looks beautiful. I think having the extra time really helped because I didn’t make mistakes or take short cuts. The Monet Lillies really takes 4 hours in my opinion. 3 hours would not have been enough.
If you are serious and hard-​core or are a perfectionist like me, I recommend a few tips: 1) print out your own color copy of the painting sample, so that you can refer to it throughout the class. If you fall behind, you can always refer to the photocopy 2) bring baby wipes. If you are messy like me, you can quickly wipe off your hands without having to go hunt down some paper towels and 3) you might consider bringing a couple of tubes of your own paint if you are really picky about colors. Like I would’ve liked a few fluorescent colors to accent my painting, because I wanted to do a Warhol-​ish version of the Lillies, but I should’ve maybe brought my own fluorescent paint for accenting.

Had my first Painting With a Twist experience last night, and I think I have a new obsession. It was amazing and a lot of fun. Ericka is a great instructor and gave me a lot of help when I thought my painting was hopeless. I went there today for a Susan G. Komen fundraiser. The owners were very nice and the art assistants were very helpful. I will be going back.
