Small place, but lots of flavor! So glad we decided to try out this hole in the wall. Had to wait for about 45 minutes because the place is so small, but it was worth it! Great gumbo. Got the sampler from checking in and even ordered more gumbo! Great po-boy also!

I honestly have nothing bad to say about this place. I’ve lived out here for 6 months and Finally found a place that I can actually sit down and enjoy a poor boy and gumbo. It was just delicious. definitely would recommend this place and I’ll be back to try other dishes. Being a pescatarian they have a lot of options to choose from.

My first time in New Orleans was about 2 years ago when I came on a business trip. A couple of coworkers and I decided to try out Chef Ron’s restaurant the night before me left. The food was nothing other than spectacular. We couldn’t stop raving about how amazing all the dishes we tried were. Needless to say, every time someone mentioned New Orleans, I would mention Chef Ron’s restaurant. Cut to this week, my family decided we would visit New Orleans and I tagged along. I kept talking about visiting Chef Ron the entire time and we finally did, on the last night. The food again did not disappoint. Everything was perfect. Chef Ron’s Gumbo Stop will be a restaurant that I will never miss when I go to New Orleans. The prices are low, especially for the quality of the food. The dining area is small but it makes it more homey. All in all, one of the best restaurants I’ve been to.

Solid. It’s decent food, but the atmosphere leaves a little to be desired. For the price they charged, I expected more. The food was tasty, but by no means the best gumbo we’ve had or the best shrimp creole. The Boudin Balls were freaking tasty though! I would go back for just those. Seriously, just those.

The absolute BESTSEAFOODGUMBO I have eaten since I was a kid. Their mac n cheese is great too!!! Going back tomorrow to try their bread pudding since I heard it was great and when I called he said he just sold the last piece. Actually Chef Ron answered the phone himself and is a real genuine guy… Sounds like with old fashioned principles… Gotta check it out!!!

I saw the reviews on this place here on Unilocal and decided to check it out. I had the mumbo gumbo/half BBQ shrimp poboy combo, fried green tomatoes, and the boudin balls. The boudin balls and tomatoes were both excellent. The seafood on the top of the tomatoes was great. The sauce was tasty but seemed a little watery, as others here have mentioned. The gumbo was good but I must say my mom’s is better. The BBQ shrimp poboy was a little watery(I prefer the sauce in BBQ shrimp to be a bit thicker), and when I bit into the sandwich some of the juices flowed out over my hand and burned me! Not pleasant at all. I thought it was an ok poboy, but if you’re looking for a bomb BBQ shrimp poboy I would try bourbon house in the quarter. The staff were nice(although it felt they were trying to rush us out the door), but overall it was a decent experience. I would rate it 3.5 stars if I could.

Came in here for dinner on a tuesday night and all the tables were full! Thinking this must be the place to be, we waited for about 10 minutes to be seated. I checked in on Unilocal to get the free gumbo sampler but it never arrived :(I understand though, they were really busy. I got the stuffed gumbo which came with a perfectly fried(light, crispy, not greasy) piece of catfish and a ton of other seafood, I had to take some home it was so big! My boyfriend ordered the jambalaya with a side of mac. I’m not a huge fan of jambalaya to begin with so I though it was just ok, but man oh man that mac and cheese was good.

This place is to die for. I managed to go here twice in my 2 day trip to New Orleans. To tell you how good this place is, I was out eating all day and forced myself to go to Rons for his infamous bread pudding. It is to die for!!! It was honestly the best bread pudding that I have ever had. Plus Chef Ron cares about his customers. He makes his rounds at the dinner tables to make sure everyone is alright. This place is a hidden gem off I-10

I read the reviews and a group of us went to Ron’s Stop and yes, its a little hole in the wall, and the bathroom sinks are laundry basins but folks, the food is incredible. Boudin Balls — excellent! Gator Bites — frigg’in tasty! Crawfish Étouffée — delicious Bronzed Drum Fish — flaky & light, fantastic Bread pudding — Still licking my chops! Plainly put — if you’re in Metairie, stop at Ron’s and have a fantastic meal without breaking the bank. Thanks for great food and outstanding hospitality Ron! Gabby

Do you really need another person telling you how great this hole on the wall was. This is a hole in the wall that spends little on décor, although the huge screen tv was nice to keep this single patron distracted for the 90 seconds it took for my food to show up. Cajun food? What’s Cajun food. I’m from the north. I was raised chewing on bark and bottom of the freezer skinny mutton carcasses. The locals said go here so here I went. Are you in a local hotel. There are several on the block. Mine, the Sheraton has less than dismal customer service. Take the three minute walk here and be glad you did. I had a crayfish goulash.(not what they called it) on spiced rice. Cooked greens with slice and sausage. And Mac n cheese for desert. Looking for five star service with white linens. Look elsewhere. Ya wanna feel like you are at your best friends house being fed by his chef brother. Eat here. I left full, extraordinarily happy for experimenting, and thanked personally by the chef.

What a hidden gem, from the outside the place is hard to find and looks kinda like a rundown sports bar, but don’t let the looks scare u away! The servers are super friendly and food is amazing! They take pride in what they do and it shines! Crab cakes are better then my grandmother’s and I have never had anything even close to her cooking! Highly recommend these guys!

Food was amazing! Very authentic and full of flavor. My favorite items were: chicken/sausage gumbo, red beans, and bread puddling. I sampled from 4 of my family members plates so i tried quit a bit of their menu! Everything was delicious. We will be back again again and again! HIGHLYRECOMMEND!!!

I had been hearing nothing but rave reviews about this place, so I finally decided to give it a try. For a hole in the wall, I was very impressed! The place was packed and rightfully so. The menu was not overwhelming, but there were so many options that sounded amazing, that it was hard to choose. I noticed that they had a deal for ½ po boy and 12 or 16 oz gumbo, so I took advantage of that. I went with the bbq shrimp po boy and the seafood gumbo and it hit the spot! I will say that the only disappointment was that they did not serve beignets.

I grew up in New Orleans and had never heard of this place. While visiting NOLA, we were staying at a hotel right next to this place. We had just arrived and decided to grab a quick bite. I Unilocaled and Chef Ron’s was literally a matter of feet away from our hotel. We walked over to this hole in the wall and I’m so glad we did. The restaurant is a tiny little place in a very small strip mall located next to the holiday inn off of Causeway Blvd. Explains why I had never seen it! The food was delicious and the service was perfect. We tried the seafood gumbo, the oyster po’boy, and the crab cakes. I would definitely recommend Chef Ron’s. Quick tip: If you check in on Unilocal you get a sampler gumbo!

Man I hate having to give them a 4 star review since their overall rating is higher than that. I just can’t justify the 5 stars though. I read so many positive reviews on this place over the summer and couldn’t wait to go. I finally went about 3 months ago. It was good! It just wasn’t as good as I had expected it to be. The gumbo was fine, I guess I was just expecting something magical due to the awesome reviews. I do not feel like it’s one of the best, but there is certainly nothing wrong with it. I did really like the shrimp po-boy that I had. The mac and cheese was a solid side. My boyfriend wanted bread pudding, so we ordered that as well and enjoyed it. However, I would suggest skipping on the bread pudding and walking next door to Snola for dessert!

We came back here because it was so good the first time. I had the classic gumbo. It was delicious; full of seafood, sausage and chicken. Absolutely loved it! My husband got the peach BBQ grilled porkchop special. He thoroughly enjoyed it. I tasted a bite of the porkchop and it was tender and juicy. My aunt ordered the grilled shrimp salad. She found it quite good and more than she could finish. Chef Ron came out to say hello to us. He also gave my 18 month old daughter a plate of fresh fruit. She enjoyed it quite a bit! We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!

OMGJEFFERSONSAUCE! where have you been all my life. Now I’m sad I’m flying back to LAX today. We got the Jefferson Chicken w/side of red beans and Crawfish Étouffée w/side of jambalaya. Blew our minds when we took our first bite of the Jefferson Chicken. No wonder you can get a side of Jefferson sauce alone. Now i understand. All the dishes were really good but obviously that sauce stood out. Tip: check in on Unilocal for that free gumbo teaser! It’s bigger than we thought!

Finally got the chance to swing by here for dinner one night. Its a fairly small place with about 10 tables and a small bar with 5 barstools. Everyone in there is so friendly and even the other customers we met had talked about how delicious the food was. When checking into Unilocal,I was offer with a gumbo teaser and boy was it flavorful with the right amount of spices. Our server Jake was awesome, super nice guy! My friend had the half oyster po-boy and gumbo combination and the oysters were fried to perfection! I had the Jefferson chicken(fried chicken breast with crawfish creole sauce) and licked pretty much everything off that plate. Yes it was that good! Chef Ron even came out to talk to some of the folks in the restaurant. How nice of him. So ready to return back to try out other dishes!

Thank you once again my fellow Unilocalers, this was the icing on the cake today. Had the Crawfish ettoufe, the sauce on this plate was just cajun/creole heaven, unbelievable nice spiciness, tasty crawfish, rice was yummy and we’ll done. Also had the Fried green tomatoes, but was hampered a bit due to the thick cut, tomato was juicy and it watered down the sauce. Wife had the Seafood gumbo and side of Jambalaya, she was like this is sooo yummy, we need to come back, plus the Abita local brew hit the spot, not a heavy brew, goes well with the seafood. When in the Big Easy, this is Da place.
