Hancock Fabrics

So this store looks like a fabric hoarder’s den of shame. Everything you need is under a dust-​covered something else. Which is fine because they have it and you know crafty people. They can find the gem in the pile.
I love the fabric ladies. So willing to help and always ready with a word of praise and encouragement where needed. And the people who shop there — lots of regulars. Very fun. Very welcoming.

While the fabric selection is above ‘craft’ quality, meaning that you a expect clothing quality fabric, you should give yourself sufficient time to get stuck in line behind someone who is undercounted about whether to use coupons, senior discount or run off to pick up an item to add to their purchase in order to meet a coupon minimum purchase requirement for the discount.

Oh to be an old, old lady.
Sometimes you just gotta put on the scarf and head out to mingle at the old watering hole.
Smooth jazz.
Soft conversation.
Knitting fanatics.
Cheap fabrics.
Or sometimes you just need a shit ton of red sashes for the Running of the Bulls (on the cheap).

Not as large as either of the Jo-Ann’s in the area and their stock definitely reflects that. But they still have a fair selection of fabrics, both for clothing and for upholstery (furniture clothing). There’s also an alright selection of yarn, mostly Lion Brand and Caron varieties, as well as supplies for needlework/​embroidery and a few jewelry-​making notions.
What sets this place apart from the other fabric stores in the area is that they offer classes appealing to most skill levels of sewing. There’s also a room in the back of the store that has a few sewing machines that I believe you can rent and use in-​store, workshop style. This is valuable if you’re not about to drop the $$$ on a new sewing machine for yourself or if you’re only the occasional user.
It’s worth getting on their mailing list for the coupons and sale announcements. They periodically run sales on their patterns and other stock but unless you get their updates you’re probably not going to know about them.

Rude. That’s my impression of this Hancock Fabrics location. Which, honestly, is no big deal since they never have anything I want anyway. On my most recent visit, I was greeted upon entry not by «Welcome to Hancock Fabrics» but instead by an abrupt «Miss, we are closing in less than 10 minutes and won’t have time to help you.» Uh, okay. Never mind the fact that there were at least 10 other people in the store. Never mind the fact that it was an hour+ before their posted closing hours. I guess Hancock Fabrics doesn’t need my business.

Mounds and mounds of fabrics everywhere you look. Some are high some are low some are in between. Draperies, blankets, dresses, and aprons just some of the things that are going through my mind.
I look to the right and I see upholstery I look to the left and I see satin chiffon I look forward and I see quilting blocks.
This Hancock store does have some more unique things like the fabric I found to recover some ice cream chair finds, but they are on the pricey side. I waited for that fabric to go on sale for weeks it went on sale for a day, I missed it. Sad day for me, but then I was excited to get a coupon for 40% off, but don’t think these coupons work like the coupons at joanns because they don’t. I went in when the upholstery fabric was on sale and tried to get the fabric for the chairs and they said no this is a vinyl coated fabric so it’s on sale with the vinyl. I went back when the vinyl was on sale and they said no this is not considered a vinyl. I was so sad, so when I got the coupon for 40% off any piece of fabric I was thrilled! Then of course they say oh this isn’t considered a fabric because it’s laminated… needless to say I bought the fabric at full price anyways but I was NOT happy about it.

I really liked how nice & clean & bright the store was & the staff were very helpful … & if I am going to sew more I will have to get on their mailing list cuz, DANG, fabric can get expensive! but I am enjoying it! cute fun fabric!
