I stopped in to get a piece of screen to put in the bottom of flower pots for drainage. I got a piece of alum screen 12“X48″ and was charged $ 9.96 + tax of $.87. I left the store and starting thinking about what had just happened. By the time I looked at the sales ticket it showed a piece of alum screen 48×100. Which to meant I had been over charged 99 inches. So the information was either wrong on the cut paper from the individual cutting the screen or was put in wrong by the cashier. This happened on 4÷19÷15 @ 9.28 am Ticket 503. I should have said something before paying for this item but thought I was being treated fairly. To say the least, I will not shop there any longer when needing something to do repairs on the rental property in Old Metairie. I will drive the extra mileage to be treated fairly and ripped off!!! Stopped in for a key and found a great old school hardware store with plenty of friendly service. Sooo!!! much better than the big box hardware store.

Harry’s Ace is like a time capsule of what a hardware store used to be before being blasted with radiation and growing to giant proportions like Lowes or Home Depot. The aisles can be a bit tight at times since there’s so much goodness stuffed into a little space. Every time I visit I’m greeted as soon as I walk in and asked how I can be helped, what I’m looking for, or how the staff can be of service. Harry’s has become my place for hardware and not just because I live blocks away. The personal touch goes a long way. The only downside is they don’t have as large a selection as the bigger stores, but for most of the items I need they’re stocked and ready for service.

Made the mistake of trying to go here this weekend because the girly had a groupon that was about to expire. After battling for parking with 300+ Drew Brees fans waiting for a raffle drawing, we had to wade through a sea of smelly cigarette smoking people who had been camped out there since dawn. Once we squeezed our way through the sea of black & gold, arm-pits of smoke, we entered a throwback to the old days of hardware stores. Actual humans welcomed us and made sure any questions were handled. We picked up a very odd assortment of items and the young lady working the til was amazingly nice even after finding the entire cost of our items was only 4 bucks over the groupon. I’d go back… er…unless another raffle was going on next door.
