Why I like this place: Its low profile. Chances of me running into someone I know are slim to none. Great music selection on the jukebox. Its never over crowded. Decent drink prices. Yes its stinks like old cigarettes and I would hate to see the nicotine laden walls in the sunlight. Alcohol selection is mediocre. No food but there are delivery options in the area plus taco bell just opened on the corner. Park in the bank parking lot next door since there is only 3 or 4 spots in the front.

So I decided to stop by Mugz’s last thursday night and give it a try. The bar is ok. Not anything unique here to set itself apart from the other bars in the area. Has pool tables, a dart board, and a few other things to keep customers entertained. Most bar owners, though, know it’s not really what your bar offers that makes you money, it’s the bartender behind the counter that counts. Stick a friendly and knowledgeable bartender at a crappy bar and that bar would make more money than a bar with an unhappy, unsocial, or rude bartender. Needless to say, the bartender working that night was the latter and not the former. I ordered a beer. The bartender was not very approachable nor did she try to start a conversation with me or any of the other customers at the bar. She was talking to one specific person at the bar the whole time I was there. I’m not saying bartenders need to have a long conversation with every customer but you should do more than«Hey what can I get you?» and leave it at that after the drink is served. Especially on a slow night. I ordered a second drink from her. I left after I finished my second drink. Not a bar I would run out to again based on the level of service I received. Heck I bartend a few days a week and even I would drink a subpar drink from a friendly bartender before I go to a bar that is known for its amazing cocktails but has an unfriendly bartender. People like bartenders. They like to be seen at a bar talking to the bartender. Bartending is a fun and social job. Hire ppl that enjoy those two things. Get good bartenders and your bar will be racking in the dough.
