Southern Brain & Spine

I ‘ll be honest that I may have never been a patient of Southern Brain & Spine (SBS) had not my doctor, Kevin Martinez M.D., joined their practice. I was already a huge fan of Dr. Martinez at Parish Pain Specialists and knew that if he felt strongly enough to leave his previous employer to join SBS, I was going to follow him as his patient.
According to their website, and it’s an incredible website, all 7 doctors are locally educated at either LSU or Tulane and most are native New Orleanians. As stated, I am a patient of Dr. Martinez. However, Southern Brain and Spine is the home of nationally renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Najeeb Thomas, who is «recognized as an innovator and continues to be active in the latest development of minimally invasive spine procedures so that his patients may receive the most advanced spinal care in the world.» (website quote)
Aside from the numerous spinal surgical procedures that SBS performs, they also perform a number of non-​surgical procedures such as cervical, thoracic & lumbar procedures epidural steroid injections, as well as nerve blocks, tendon & joint injections and spinal cord stimulations. Dr. Martinez has been caring for me for over 4 years now and his goal is to keep me healthy for as long as possible without having to undergo spinal fusion surgery; which is currently my only option as far as surgeries go. However, the spinal steroid epidural injections are miraculous and they keep me going.
The nursing staff, particularly Dr. Martinez’s nurse Maricris, is wonderful. My phone calls and emails are always replied to in a timely manner, and even the receptionists are all quite pleasant.
With four locations to serve you (Metairie, Uptown, Covington and Laplace), there is always a convenient location. If anyone who reads this has any kind of pain, particularly spinal pain, do not wait another minute as there is no need to live in pain.
