Metamora Foodland is a small neighborhood supermarket that seems to be slowly going down the dumper. The place doesn’t sell food very fast so there are many expired items on the shelf at any given time. You have to check the date on everything you buy. Quite often the prices scan wrong(of course higher than the displayed price). Under Michigan Law, anytime a price scans at a higher price than is displayed or marked, the consumer must receive a scanner bounty from the store when the consumer asks for it,(after you complete the transaction by paying for it). The owner of this store has stated that his store is exempt from the law. He is obviously mistaken. This store also runs out of sale items quite frequently. They will give you a rain check for the item, but good luck redeeming the rain check. Most times they never get the item back in stock or as I heard the owner yelling at an employee today, «we can’t honor these ’cause our costs have gone up». I have only been able redeem one rain check here because their rain checks always expire before they get the items back in stock. The store used to be ok if you could look past all of the irritating flaws. The owner recently fired virtually all of the staff for some unknown reason so nobody knows anything about the place. Most of the old employees seemed to work very hard at helping the customer. It seems that the owner is a real piece of work. The convenient location is the only reason reason to visit this store. Not sure if that is reason enough to patronize this store anymore.
