Costco

Costco is great, we all know. But I especially like this location due to their selection of craft beer. Rare-​ish favorites include Stone and recently LaGunitas IPA. Please keep it coming! Little Sumpin’ and Revolution Ani-​Hero please. (both Chicago brews, for Chicago). Nice clean store, great location, and nice people too.

I lived on the coast for a handful of days and Costco was the place to go for anything and everything surfing. I bought 2 Wavestorm Surfboards and they’re troopers. I took them to the Wedge and they endured, North Shore Oahu? No problem. Nevertheless, there was a problem. The west coast days are now over and I was in search of another surfboard to add to my collection. Instinctively, Costco was the one destination I had in mind. However, upon arriving, I inquired as to where the surfboards were located and the staff member in great confusion said to me that they only sold paddle boards at this location. I was not only perplexed but also outraged at the fact that the main manufacturers of the best selling surfboard in America did not in fact sell these wonderful boards in all of their locations. In conclusion, this Costco does offer a wide selection of products but in terms of aquatic activities, I’d recommend trying out their west coast locations.

I adore Costco; just not this one.
The cashiers at this location are on the slow side and considering how busy they always are, this is an issue. I’ve been a cashier, I get it trust me, but speed it up and stop chatting so much when you have 12 people in line.
The deli is VERY hit or miss at this location. My first ever visit to this location and I went to buy a hot dog. The VERY rude blonde woman who works there gave me a hot dog where the bun was liquidy… that’s not normal. I very nicely brought it to her attention only to be told «that’s how they all are». Actually no lady I’ve eaten Costco hot dogs in like 6 different states at this point and this was a first for me. She then continued to argue with me until another guy came over and just gave me another hot dog. He then asked her «what the h – l is your problem». I didn’t stick around for the answer. Since then I’ve had a few other issues with the deli counter and I absolutely refuse to order if that lady is working.
Customer service is also hit or miss. I abhor returning things to this location because of how slow they are. Again, I get it and they get a bit more slack than the cashier do. However the Hispanic customer service manager is a complete jerk. He doesn’t understand Costco’s return policy (which you can view in plain language on their website) and one time actually he tried to tell me a rice cooker is an electronics item there for only has a 90 day return policy. Actually, that’s wrong. I’ll copy this from the policy:
«Electronics*: Costco will accept returns within 90 days (from the date the member received the merchandise) for Televisions, Tuner-​Free Displays, Projectors, Major Appliances, Computers, Touchscreen Tablets, Cameras, Camcorders, MP3 players and Cellular Phones.»
A Major appliance according to Costco is things like washing machines. Beyond that most of my returns go smoothly.
What do most people love about Costco? SAMPLES! There are a few of the sample folks that are horrible; in particular the lady who is short, pudgier, and has a Greek accent and never wear a name tag. The dag she finally DOES wear one I will complain about her. Even while working she will push you out of the way to go up to another worker’s booth and take a handful of food and shove it in her mouth. It’s gross and unprofessional… not to mention downright rude! I can’t fault Costco directly for this though since another company hires the people who do samples. (still worth knowing though)
The pluses of this location? Not a lot. Compared to the other ones around here their selection is a bit meager and I’m not impressed with their meat department where the chickens are bloated (Ie old), meat is on the older side/​browning, or the cuts aren’t as good as what I’d expect from Costco.
Speaking of meat, last week on the 7^th of April I bought a rotisserie chicken and after we started to eat it realized something didn’t taste normal. Not only did it have a strange smell, but it was bloody at the bone in not only the breast but the legs. When we return it the customer service lady basically told us we were lying since they «temp check every one». Well obviously he didn’t temp it probably. I felt pretty sick to my stomach for the next 30 hours after eating it.
For me, this is the closest location so I will probably continue to go here in a pinch.
I guess one positive would be IF the produce is stocked it tends to be fresh.

Here’s what you need to know: At the end of the day, this is a Costco — the world’s greatest retailer. Like every other Costco, this location takes care of its customers, has very friendly service, and a great product selection. This Costco in particular does a great job of stocking Indian Food. Yummm!
It’s impossible to rate any Costco less than 5 stars for their service alone. So I’ll talk specifically to this location. Conveniently accessible off the interstate. Great gas prices (not all Costcos have gas stations) are always a draw to this Lake County location (sales and city taxes are lower than Cook county).
The cafeteria is reliably good, and has the usual tasty pizza, hot dogs, sandwiches, churos, salad, chicken bakes, ice cream, and smoothies.
As with all Costco’s lines can be an issue on weekends.

I’ve gone to this one before only for gas. But recently bought some tires and I was glad I did from costco. Because sadly I had a flat from a road hazard and found out I’m covered which made my day. The service people in the tire center were very nice and helpful, couldn’t of asked for better service.

I like Costco. The last time I was here I bought a ton of great meat and fish. My freezer is literally full for a fraction of what I would spend elsewhere. There’s a big gas station that is a great deal.
Customer service is spotty at times. One guy at the door was rude to me with bringing a non member with me, getting a question answered or returning something will take a long time. The last time I was there I was approached in the check out line to upgrade to an executive membership. I repeatedly told the sales guy that it didn’t make sense for me (the breakeven spend is $ 3000 a year) as I spend less than $ 1500 a year there. He was very insistent let alone holding up my check out line. I really don’t like a hard sell. No means no.

Cheap gas, great liquor selection and not too crowded. The customer service is great and this location. I’ll make the drive from down south to shop at this store.

What I like about Costco: prices, quality selections, healthier focus than Sam’s Club, employees are friendly, company is better to its employees in terms of salaries and benefits, you can have lunch on samples roaming around the store.
What I don’t like: It’s crowded on weekends, and generally the people who shop here are neither very friendly nor are they aware of being courteous to other shoppers.
Their liquor prices are very, very good, as is the quality of their house brand Kirkland Signature. Sometimes I buy something from the prepared food section and eat it picnic style on my way out, depending on how hungry I am.
Costco is a great company, and I feel good about shopping there.

The best Costco in the area. Great value and service.

Long lines on the weekend not to mention lucky if get a sample. Now who doesn’t love saving money. I get a lot of things here and have not been disappointed. When I do find something I like they seem to stop carrying it. That part can be very frustrating cause they don’t replace it with something like it. If you check out the clothes area will find real good deals on name brand clothes at times. They push you to get the most expensive membership but if don’t work out you get your money back.

This is the best Costco to go to. Easy parking. Much better than the Willow location by far.

More lanes open during peak hours. An express is alway nice
Roasted chicken with warm Rosemary Parmesan bread. With the baby mozzarella in olive oil, cucumbers and tomatoes.
Great lunch. Recycle the cartilage on chicken for the pooch, makes one happy puppy.

The best pizza in all of Chicago. The best pizza there has ever been on the face of the planet Earth, maybe even Mars!

The nearest Costco to where we stay, this one is really good in terms of variety of items available.
We prefer making a weekday trip when the crowds are lesser, so we can be in and out quickly. Decent amount of parking, friendly staff and a good collection of items make the store trip worthwhile.
On few visits however I have struggled to find a store member to help me with something am looking for, that I believe they could improve on.

Went to the tire center yesterday. I had a slow leak in one of my tires. 2-​tires I bought at Costco, 2-​tires I bought at the tire rack.
Unfortunately, one of the tires I didn’t buy at Costco was the one which had the problem.
They still didn’t want me to drive away unsafe (inner sidewall nail) so they put my spare on for me. Then reminded me that my bad tire should have a warranty, then showed me the information on the tire necessary for my phone call to the tire rack.
Costco tires are unconditionally warranted, rotated, patched etc. for the life of the tire.
They could have said «Too Bad» not our tire, not our problem, then dismissed me.
Thank you! I would recommend them to everyone.

Tire center quoted me a one and a half hour wait time. It has now been three hours. When I came up to ask them whether they had finished, the mechanic said they hadn’t even started yet.
I would not have ever changed tires here had I known the real wait time. It is an absolutely unacceptable breach of customer service to flat out lie like this.
This is the first and last time I will be getting tires here.

The Costco itself is typical and wonderful. We didn’t find Velveeta– must be the shortage the pundits talked about during the Super Bowl this year.
But the customers at this Costco were the problem. They crowd around each sample station like a bunch of starving troglodytes, thereby blocking expedient isle ingress and egress. Must be a «North Shore» thing.

I am a fan!
A large selection of organic produce at great prices. The meat is very high quality and has a lot of great options. The cooked chickens are yummy. The bakery section has some delicious options. During the holidays there are awesome alcohol gift sets.
Jack’s salsa in the fresh refrigerator section is amazing, we especially enjoy the peach mango one.
Periodically there are surprisingly good clothes sales, like down jackets, and quality wool sweaters.
The checkout is friendly and goes by pretty quickly.
Just a note, wear a sweater, this store is extra cold.

So I am a walking contradiction! I really dont like shopping but I somewhat love costco. I love the prices, the abundance of groceries, the quality, the diamonds, the dairy. ALL of it! But I ONLY love the Mettawa location. I hate the Schaumburg and the Mt Prospect ones. Maybe because everybody and their mom is shopping while I am shopping. And that aint cool! Or maybe because the layout is different.
Usually I make a list, I mentally prepare myself, plan the attack and I am always the first person in the door, which means that there are not many humans around. So this way I shop happily ever after, without anybody bothering me. You would think I am planing on to the dentist, thats how much I protest it. Actually I love Dr Galliani more then I love shopping. Souts honor! Needless to say this location is great! I know where everything is and that makes me happy. (well somewhat). So let me be like the cool kids nowadays and hash tag this #costcorocks.

How can you not love the Costco experience?
I come to Costco for MANY reasons.
First, their Bakery section is extensive & amazing. Red Velvet Cake, Apple Strudel, Chocolate Torte Cakes, Cheesecake, Muffins, Cookies & an assortment of bread.
Second, their Butcher section is better than any grocery around — and better priced. Whether you pick up Filets, Standing Ribeye Roast, Pot Roast, Ribs or ground beef — they are all great quality & delicious.
Wait, they serve this Rotisserie Chicken for $ 5. It’s not only better tasting than Jewel’s, it’s also less expensive. How can you top that???
They also have an intense selection of wine & spirits. And during the Holidays, you can get Gift Baskets.
When it comes to their Bulk options, it sometimes cost less to get 30 Water Bottles, 2 large containers of Peanut Butter or 100 Chinet Plates? If we are going to use them, then they can save me money.
Sometimes while shopping we come across deals that we cannot pass up. For example, just recently, we got a 32G Flash Drive for about $ 14. You can’t beat the price.
In addition to food, they also sell electronics, furniture, appliances, dishes, toiletries, medicine, vitamins, clothes, towels, etc.
Basic membership is $ 55 but they offer an Executive membership for more (that offers a refund).
