Don’t know if they got new owners but they must have gotten new cooks. After 2 Aweful meals breakfast and dinner, we tried one more time. Hot open face roast beef sandwich was broiled shoe leather. Breakfast was burnt eggs and toast and the other dinner was lemon chicken which was all cornstarch and salt. They use to have decent soups however now the leave the noodles in the soup so you just get paste. Never again.

Nicely prepared soups and salads. Service is sketchy at times but always pleasant. Great breakfast food. try the waffles or special pancakes.

Decent diner… Good breakfast food, soups and salads… Don’t get a burger, very dry. Ice cream is freezer burned, but at least they have sugar free!

Updating. Folks who run the place seem to have taken previous comments to heart. Lunch and breakfast dishes greatly improved. Good diner again. Wait staff is great as ever, especially Bernadettel.

Prompt service. Friendly staff. Coffee was fresh and hot at 4:30 in the afternoon. We ordered the french fries crispy and they were perfectly crunchy on outside and soft on the inside. Great. Hubby had the Greek salad which is his favorite and he thought it was great. All and all a great experience. Will be back. Lunch specials come with cole slaw and pickle but you have to ask for it.

This is my diner of choice within the area. Service is fast and attentive(which you want in a diner). Menu is HUGE and all the sandwiches are large and comforting! I usually get a cheeseburger or a sandwich(they have an open faced Reuben which is great) and my dad orders a «special» and we have never had a problem with any order. You get what you ask for. Good coleslaw. Good fries. Good diner!

I would give this place five stars but it isn’t much to look at. I had the Twin Sandwich(corned beef and pastrami with coleslaw, Russian dressing And melted Swiss. Delicious.

Update! We tried the Metuchen Diner again today and the quality of service did a complete 180. Again we were with our son and were given a booth in the back. Our waitress was wonderful and the food was very good. I loved the spinach pie and my husband’s cheese steak looked great. Thanks for the improvements all around !

Awesome diner. Great service with a smile. Honk that horn for the ribs. They have remade this place and if you haven’t been here recently it is definitely time for another try. Whether the servers dress in lime or orange, Cheesecake is always a sweet distraction. Lentil soup gets the green light every time. Don’t just pass by on Route 27 – in Metuchen you need to stop here.(If the veggies were fresh instead of frozen you’d get that coveted 5th star!)

This place was one of my favorites up until today. I have never been treated like that in a diner that does really well and has another location. The lady manager was rude and yelling after I asked about $ 1.49 and .79 extra for couple slices of tomato and bleu cheese which was not in the salad when I got it and it was suppose to be. She told me she was removing only the bleu cheese and that she does not want me eating there anymore. I had the same issue last time with only the tomatoes and the guy manager said I should not be charged if it comes with tomatoes.

Friendly servers and a super laid back atmosphere make Metuchen Diner a nice lil’ spot to duck in and have a quick meal. I recommend the crabmeat stuffed mushrooms and stuffed cabbage. Matter o’ fact, I don’t think I’ve ever ordered something here that wasn’t stuffed. Hmm. There’s a zillion things in the menu as per usual diner style. It’s hard not to find something to munch on here. Many entrees come with two sides and dessert which is WAY too much to eat at once but great if you love leftovers. Coffee is good and cheap. The establishment itself is quite clean and airy, and as I mentioned earlier the servers are very nice, attentive without being pushy.

I wanted a plain omelet and plain BURNT home fries. I got exactly what I wanted. Now it doesn’t take a gourmet chef to cook eggs and home fries, I know. But, no one ever gets it completely right. They did! Really crispy home fries, if you ask for it, not soggy, and no onions and peppers. It had been a long morning and I was passing through Metuchen. Next time I am in the area I will definitely stop by. Clean environment and friendly service. That’s all I need to keep me coming back. That, and what I love the most, burnt home fries for breakfast.

Five stars all the way!!! The food is consistently good! I highly recommend their NY strip steaks, shrimps and stuffed salmon fillet!!! The prices are incredibly low, especially for sooooo much(good) food! I’m so glad I gave this place a try a few months ago. I’ve been hooked ever since. Also, the servers are very, very nice people. Clean diner and friendly environment!

Veggie Omelette was blend… no salt was added at all. Veggie deluxe burger didn’t come with cheese(they forgot I guess), Fries weren’t crispy. My Egg salad sandwich was good and that is the reason I gave 2 stars. Waiter didn’t know how to talk to customers(arrogant, more interested in talking to her colleague than serving food). Not going back again!

It gets a 4 now as I have been here 3 straight times where it’s always been good and service has been great as well. Very consistent place and whether it’s breakfast lunch or dinner times it’s been great overall! Again I just wish it was 24⁄7.

I don’t think you will find a better bargain than their $ 6.95 lunch with soup and desert. On the other hand, their pea soup was super salty. If I go to a diner and not enjoy the pea soup, especially on Thursday Pea Soup day, that can be a problem. My veggie panini was good as was the rice pudding. Our server was very pleasant and did bring the pickle and slaw.

Metuchen apparently needed a new diner. There hadn’t been one here for a long time. This is the former spot of the Duchess Diner which hadn’t been open in many many years. You come here on a weekend night and the lines are out the door. As I said, Metuchen needed a diner. This was my first time walking into this building since it was the Duchess. It had been a long time. I miss diner’s. Where I currently live there really aren’t any diners. Or at least not diner’s like I know them from growing up in this part of the country. You know a Jersey diner when you are in one. They just have a certain feel. Like all diner’s the menu here is huge. It might take you a good 30 minutes to go through the whole thing. Dad and I stuck to the salad portion of the menu. I would usually get a burger or something of the like, but I was feeling like a salad on this night. I had the Greek salad with chicken($ 10.95). Like everything on the menu and practically everything you will find at a diner in these parts the portions are huge. This salad could easily have fed 2 people. Full of lettuce, onions, tomatoes, kalamata olives, feta cheese and other assorted goodies and topped with chicken(that brings the salad from $ 8.95 to $ 10.95) it was very flavorful and very fresh. It is good to know that Metuchen has another good option for food.
