I’m not quite sure what the hype is all about. The food was very mediocre and lacking flavor. We had the Lomo Saltado, Mixto Pescado and Mixed ceviche. Ceviche was my favorite thing(and it didn’t require any cooking). Mixto Pescado looked more like a soup than an entrée and was very bland. The waitress — Caryn C — took the order and we never saw her again. She never came by our table to check on us or the food. The bus boys did a better job. Overall, not a fan!

Stopped into Chalan on the Beach while spending a day in South Beach. We wanted some good seafood for lunch. Searched Unilocal and found this! The Food: Bread basket. always a nice touch and was perfect for dipping into our soup. I split a large Chupe de Camarones(Shrimp soup with mixed veg) and a fresh ceviche with my friend. Both were more than enough for our lunch. The Chupe was incredible. not sure what was in that broth but it was amazing. I was practically licking the bowl. The soup had fresh fish as well as many large shrimp. Not stingy with the seafood like so many places can be with soup. At $ 16 it was well priced for two to split, and our waitress brought out a large spoon and two bowls. Nice touch. The ceviche was definitely fresh with a light citrus dressing. Again, heavy on the portion size. Easy to split since we didn’t have to argue about«who gets the fish» when it was plentiful. I particularly liked the calamari. Served in a lettuce cup style, so easy to serve and yummy with bread. Service was fine, not friendly, but fine. Lunch was getting busy and there didn’t look to be too much staff. Restaurant itself is simple. Points for the bathroom being small, but clean and cute. Come on, those things are important. Good find and if you go, get the soup!!!

Food ok, not the best Peruvian I’ve tried. Prices are a little bit high but you must understand the location they’re at is no cheap. Definitely cheaper than many of the restaurants around Lincoln road.

They have the best ceviche I have ever encountered. The fish was so fresh we swear it came out of the water just hours prior to our meal.

Arrived at Chalan on the Beach today for lunch. When I opened the door for my lady we were greeted by a gentleman who was real chill who kindly escorted us to a table for two. We sat down overjoyed by all the options for Peruvian dishes. Our waiter Jorge, came by greeted us with a genuine warm welcome. Jorge was cool because he explained the dishes that we were interested in and stated we made some great selections. Our food arrived roughly 15 minutes after placing the order which is truly decent timing in the hospitality industry. My lady had Lomo Saltado and I had the Pescado al Chalan with a Strawberry and Lemonade Smoothie. BRUH that food was so amazing and filling I just might order some food to go before I head to MIA Int’l. On a scale 1 – 5; 5 being the best. Service– 5 Ambiance– 5(if you’re looking for something chill and relaxed) Food– 5 If you’re in Miami, check this place out and be ready to enjoy the food and the awesome Peruvian feel. As Miami’s own Dj Khaled would say«Another One» !

So I wouldn’t recommend this place for the décor, the ambiance or the bar selection… however I would recommend it based on the food and the service! I’ve never had Peruvian food before, so I’m solely basing my opinions on taste. We ordered the grilled octopus as an appetizer. Definitely not like others I’ve had since their octopus was sautéed in a unique like barbecue sauce(I would highly recommend that they consider smothering this sauce on some ribs). For our entrees, we ordered the whole fried snapper along with a flank steak combo. While our dishes were awesome, my friend and I had a slight case of table envy of others… we noticed several Asian inspired fried rice plates which looked incredible. Alas, we were still pleased with what we ordered, however next time we will sample the rice dishes!

Great place in South Beach for delicious Peruvian food. It doesn’t cost an arm and a leg and they have some pretty sweet lunch specials. My Lyft driver suggested this place and the Lomo Saltado. Walking in, every table was full but I was able to snag a lonesome seat at the bar. The menu was huge; large selection of drinks, food, etc. I ended up ordering the Lomo Saltado, which comes with grilled beef, a bunch of onions and a bed of french fries all mixed together and a Cuban coffee. Service was great — credit cards are accepted. The food itself was delicious, although I have very little to compare it. I thought the price was a tad high for this lunch($ 20 inc tax and tip), but that’s because I chose the Lomo Saltado over some of the specials they had, since it was came highly recommended. Next time I’m in Miami Beach, I’d love to try some of the delicious looking desserts I saw as well!

Some excellent food for a good price! I’ve came here for the past two times I was in SoBe. The portions are large and the service is great. I always get a seafood dish with some creamy sauce — they’re all very similar. I had one with fish and seafood and it was amazing. What really makes the dishes so hearty and keeps you coming back for more is the RICE. Their rice is so perfectly seasoned and goes so well with any sauce. They also make some very good sangria. The service can be spotty some times when it’s packed, but overall the staff are very friendly.

I’ve never had Peruvian food before, but the food I had here makes me excited to see what else this type of cuisine has to offer. They ran it of Their famous ceviche, and there is a clearly miscommunication between the kitchen and servers because I watched over the course of the night as waiters would offer the ceviche only to come back 20 minutes later to share the sad news. The grilled octopus is amazing and the fish soup with noodles are also clean and delicious. Service is really slow and other diners around me seemed to get frustrated, but I think it’s worth the wait. You may wait 30 minutes before your apps come, so have that it mind. Regardless, a great authentic Peruvian place by the beach

This is by far one of my top five best restaurants(not in a Latin category), overall restaurant experience. I live in NYC and I miss this place monthly. The service was welcoming and the food was just sensational. I will go back to Miami beach just because of this place. My mouth is watering right now as I write this. LOVELOVELOVE

I guess if you haven’t had Peruvian food in NYC then this place is gold. Average Peruvian food if this was in New York. The portions are decent, the food quality is ok. The service here sucks, though. Maybe they were just too busy during this Art Basel weekend and the service suffered some. Still, it isn’t too bad on pricing at all. I’d give it 3 stars to 3.5 had they not forgot our bread when we sat down, and a few other things.

Stopped by for dinner based on a friend’s recommendation and we were super happy at the end of a very satisfying meal. While we had to wait around 15 – 20 mins to get a table, the wait was worth every minute. To start with our server was very friendly and helped us with making our choice. We got the amazingly well cooked grilled octopus which was the best part of our dinner. For my main course, I got the pescado ajillo with a side of yellow rice and sweet plaintain and boy, was I happy. Every single bite was flavorful and I know this place is going to be must visit every time I am in Miami.

Food here is very good and price is fair. Portions are X-large! Restaurant is extremely small and we had to seat too close to another couple who were talking very loud. I’d like to have more privacy. It would be great for them to extend the space cause a lot of people deserve to try their food in pleasant and relaxing atmosphere without unwilling listening to unknown people.

Yummy! I have eaten all over Lima and some other spots in Peru so I hold my standards pretty high. The food is here is pretty on point. And so is the price for such an inflated area. We shared: mixed fish ceviche, seafood paella, leche de tigre, fried yucca, peruvian beer, and sangria. The paella and leche de tigre(which is a traditional hangover drink) stood out to me the most. FYI– the paella is definitely for two people(or three). The alcoholic drinks were wonderful. I enjoyed the sangria because it didn’t have the bitter taste of cheap red wine typically used. The peruvian beer is light. It reminded us of a better coors. Make a reservation if you’re coming at 8pm or later. We went at 7pm on a Tuesday and it was out the door by the time we left.

Ok, so without a fellow Unilocalers tip I wouldn’t have walked in, but I’m glad I did. Old fashioned, in the tourist hub(great place to eat if you fancy getting inked and some strippers after — less than block down btw) However took my fellow Unilocalers advice and was greeted warmly and seated and totally humble, old school, well café I guess… Having never eaten Peruvian food I decided tonight was the theme to continue in working on tips so between me and the waitress(me no Spanish, her a tiny bit of English) we agreed she would choose… so guys, I can’t tell you what I had(perhaps the foodies can from the pics I took) but it was really solid, no messing flavours. I guess the fable of this little review is don’t judge a book by its faded cover as its the prose contained within that counts.

J&R from PR.

The food is excellent and inexpensive. Would definitely go back for more. I wish I would have found this place sooner especially since everything cost an arm and a leg on Ocean Dr. You just get so much food here for the price. I was stuffed leaving out of this place. I had to go and take a nap. Try the fried snapper! Yummmmm and they have this hot sauce that was deelish. I put it on everything because I just wanted to taste it over and over again. They have good customer service here too. It’s not a fancy restaurant, it looks like a diner or something of the sort but it is clean. I just didn’t care too much for sitting all the way in the back where the restrooms were but once the food came I didn’t pay attention to that anymore. Enjoy!

This place was so good that we went twice in one weekend! Chalan’s staff was very friendly and helpful! They were happy to get us anything we asked for, and even offered tips on what to eat. The portions were huge! The food was absolutely outstanding and very authentic. The prices were quite nice as well! Chalan is in a great spot and is absolutely worth the trip!
